The Sony A73/A7R3/A7S3/A9 Thread

That's very good to know and thanks so much for posting. I'll get on to them. Was it something they emailed, or posted?

Wanting to upgrade my SD card to make use of the fastest write speeds.

Why such a difference between the SanDisk Extreme Pro 300 and the Lexar 2000x literally double the price?
I'd normally go for SanDisk but for a 64Gb £100 seems a lot.

I went with a couple of the Lexar x1667 due to the price. It's such a massive difference, like you say. I've not noticed any issues. I use high speed shots quite a lot, taking pictures of the kids and the dog. RAW & JPG.

Hi BadMojo - the telephone person said it would be with me in 2 days so thought it would come via post, but it came the next day to my gmail inbox. Sony were then very quick to process and accept the docs sent by very.

I've just got off the phone with Very and they've already sent me a rather pathetic and likely unusable 'proof of purchase' email. It's not even an attached document, but a rather brief outline of what i've bought, within the body of the email. The VAT receipt, which I hope is better, is to follow in the next 72 hours apparently.

Managed to get an amazing deal on a Sony 35mm f1.8 for around £350 (non-UK so lower taxes) after cashback and discounts and wow... seems like I got a really nice copy. Very nice and sharp even at f1.8! Very impressed with the IQ on my A7R3.

Also just ordered a 20mm f1.8 using the discount and cashback deal for a total of £650 as it looks like such a stunning wide angle lens with such good features (aperture ring etc)... more like a 1.8Gm than a 1.8G!

My A7R3 is such a great camera, it's been really reliable for the last 3 years. Would I prefer better AF and a clearer high-res viewfinder and a selfie screen? Sure... but I can live without them. :)

I've been dipping in and out of the comparison sites and various websites and yet again, like the last few years, I'm totally underwhelmed and severely disappointed in Black Friday "sales". Has anyone managed to bag a real Sony bargain?

I'm after the Sony FE 24-105mm f4 G OSS Lens as a general walkabout and it's currently sitting at £999. I feel like this could be at least £50 lower...

Thanks for the link and that's a very good price. But I'm ideally looking for a UK seller as I have £200 worth of cashback available to me via Sony.

Just received the 20mm f1.8... wow what a solid and well built lens. I wish there was a G version of the 35mm with similar quality and an aperture ring. The aperture ring is a little bit too firm and clicky to allow super smooth video usage but I am sure it will improve with time and practise.

For amateurs like myself, or I would imagine many professionals, I don't see why you would need to step up to GM 1.4 versions when they are now (finally) producing 1.8's of such fantastic optical quality with such great build. I now have the 20mm, 35mm and 85mm and they are all impressively sharp at f1.8. I wonder if they will make a 50mm lens in this range.

I would sometimes like a Sony A7R4 for the 24MP APS-C mode to turn the 35mm and 20mm lenses into 50mm and 35mm equivalents with smaller file sizes when desired.

Anyone use an external microphone on their A7? I've just been reviewing some video footage I took down on the beach and the wind noise was quite intrusive. It got me thinking about an external microphone and wind suppression.

It looks like there are two Sony options, each of which can be used with wind screens: the 'Sony ECMGZ1M.SYH Gun Zoom' and the 'SON2391 ECMXYST1M.CE7 Stereo Microphone'.

I got the gunmic for Christmas, but havent had the chance to try it out yet.

I also got the Meike MK-X1EM Metal Bracket Hand Grip and this has made the world of difference to the camera. I was finding it a little painful to hold the camera for prolonged periods and my fingers were working their way upwards and out of position and the heel of my thumb was catching the wheel. With the grip none of that happens.
