The Sony A73/A7R3/A7S3/A9 Thread

Then just buy your lenses in stages you don't need to get them all at once. Take your time, read reviews, and choose carefully as and when you identify a need.

Looks to me like you have more lenses than you needed with M43 anyway. :)

Maybe but I don’t really ave any cross over. And I’m a sucker for quality primes ;)

I know I won’t swap all at the same time but it’s the question of which 3 or 4 I get with my £5k and then add some more later as and when. Dilemmas

You’re pretty balls deep in M43, it’s going to be eye watering to move.

I’m not so bad, got a GX8 and GX85 along with:

- Oly 12-40mm f2.8
- Pana-Leica 25mm f1.4
- Oly 45mm f1.8
- Oly 75mm f1.7
- Oly 9-18mm
- Pana 14-140mm II

The thought of moving and the cost involved is pretty hard to get around.

Balls deep but bought quality.and wisely second hand with the exception Of the 30mm macro I bought new on black Friday for £88. That's worth £100 more than I paid for it. Everything else is still worth what I paid for it except the em1 mark ii body so really I haven't lost out much. Will still be painful swapping as the Sony glass costs more even second hand

£1500 for a light and quality prime set to get you started, leaving plenty of time for further research.

By shopping around or buying used you can reduce those prices further.

The bokeh on those "slower" lenses will still be faster than your 1.2, you'll likely be blown away by the difference.

Isn't 25mm 1.2 on M43 essentially like 50mm f2.4 on full frame anyway because of the 2.0x crop factor?

Not only will the above lenses provie much better DOF, but the low light capability is what really blows you away when switching to full frame from a significantly smaller sensor like M43.

Yeah which is why I'm looking at swapping. Even the lenses I have at 2.8 will be better at f4 on the Sony as far as dof goes plus the Sony has much better iso.

Which is why I might settle on f4 for the telephoto lenses. Saves weight plus lots of cost

Out I interest I presume I will lose live composite moving to the Sony?

Will you lose an Olympus-only camera feature? Yes.

Is that like iPhone's panorama stitching?

No it’s for when using long shutter speeds. You start the exposure and watch it develop on the screen then simply stop it when you’re happy with the exposure achieved.

Edit: I think the camera actually combines multiple shorter exposures in camera, allowing you to see the image develop.

Even better than that is that you can take an exposure and leave it so it only adds new light sources without affecting the original exposure. Great for light trails and light painting.

I will miss that and the boom to astrophotography. Will also miss 60fps and pro capture taking 20 shots before you press the shutter,

Suppose I will lose photo stacking and hi res pics as well?

Oh well pros and cons I suppose.

But your astro photography should be a LOT better with faster apertures, better DR and better ISO performance. Do it old school, it's on a tripod anyway so take your time and get it right.

I'm sure you cam make a feature pro's and cons list comparison yourself on paper to see exactly what you lose and gain. :)
