So anyone going to be pre-ordering the 400m f2.8?
You can get all the other G-Master lenses and still have change left.
Great lens but definitely a pro lens. Compares reasonably well in price to the Canon and Nikon offerings and from a few reviews I’ve seen, blows both of them out of the water.
With the a9 and this lens Sony will get a lot more pros on board. It’s going to take years to break the stranglehold that canon has on that area but it’s coming. Canon has rested on its reputation for too long and has let Sony catch them up and overtake them in just the last few years.
Personally I would like an enthusiast telephoto to be launched for the bird and plane amateur photographer. Something like a 500mm f5.6 or a 200-500 f4-f5.6 zoom but suspect all future lens from Sony are going to be aimed at the pros and be top quality and top price. Just need sigma and Tamron to keep pumping out more native lens to fill the gaps left by Sony.

For what? The 2x a year when you actually use it? Unless you are a pro sports photographer or money doesn't matter to you then there is absolutely no point getting one.So anyone going to be pre-ordering the 400m f2.8?

I had a brief play with the Tamron this morning. It feels like a very well made lens, and the first initial shots were crisp with good colour. A very minor moan - the lens hood clips the frame at the widest focal length.
First disappointment today. After taking loads of stills I wanted to do a video. Okay its hot and I had been in the sun taking shots for 4 or 5 hours but as soon as I tried to shoot a video i just got an error saying it was too hot and I should wait for it to cool down. Disappointed.

Strange. Shot about 200 shots at 28mm today and can’t see any clipping.you sure you fitted it right?

i was out ALL DAY yesterday in the baking heat and did both stills and video and not once did i get the overheating error
Hmmm was that on max video settings? Will have to have a play. If yours is fine and mine isn’t, mine is going back for another.

Then that's why. Almost all similar cameras overheat in the same conditions, using 4k the strain on the processor is immense and they all have maximum heat tolerances to avoid failure.
1080p would likely work fine.
