The Sony A73/A7R3/A7S3/A9 Thread

Ive bought a lens from them in the past. They are your typical Hong Kong retailer made to look like an EU/UK company. They have been around for 10 years and googling shows they are pretty good, as good as any of the grey import sites.

No idea how their 3 years Sony warranty works, maybe drop them a webnote/email? They seem quick at responding to questions. EDIT: from trustpilot reviews it appears you send your camera to Sony, get the quote and they bacs the money into your account.

Usual things about buying from HK though, dont be tempted to pay direct bank transfer for an extra discount and use a credit card through paypal and you are pretty well protected.

They certainly rate higher than eglobal

Thank you. :) Just reading their terms and conditions about delivery, it says they have a warehouse in the UK and if it's in stock, it'll be delivered from the UK warehouse. :)

Welcome to the club, you are going to love it :)
Thank you :) will pop into town one day this weekend and look at some lenses, this will be the first time buying one in store, gives me a good chance to feel the weight and size before committing to buying it. :)

Will get pictures up when it arrives. :)

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. :)

What other adaptable lenses do you already have? If you are starting from scratch an 85mm would be fairly limiting, I would class that focal length more as portrait than anything else, and it doesn't sound like that is your main use case ?

I wasn't all that impressed by the Zeiss 85mm f1.8, nor the Zeiss 50mm f1.8

The Sony GM lenses though are very nice... 35, 50 & 85.

For more all-purpose use... the Sony 24-70 f2.8 is good too.

The 50/1.8 isn't a Zeiss, just regular Sony.
The 85/1.8 is also regular Sony.

The Sony Zeiss lenses are

35/1.4 Distagon (Not a GM)
50/1.4 Planar (Not a GM)
50/1.8 Sonar

The Zeiss (proper Zeiss) lenses are

18/2.8 Batis
25/2.0 Batis
85/1.8 Batis
135/2.8 batis

I think the 40/1.8 Batis is being released soon

Only the 85/1.4 you have listed is the GM.

I think when the mount was new, to win over new customers they licensed some Zeiss lenses and released them on the system such as the 35/50mm, but now they have started their own G-Master line, there hasn't been any Sony Zeiss lenses released since. I doubt you will see anymore Sony Zeiss lenses.

Ah OK.

Yes, just double checked.

It's the Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8 & 135mm f2.8 I'm not so keen on.

You're right about Distagon & Planar too... I like both of those lenses.

The 85mm f1.4 GM looks to have taken some nice shots, but I've only seen them on camera screen so far, not yet been able to unload them.

The Zeiss 85 Batis is meant to be good, it's VERY sharp.

I wouldn't touch the 135/2.8 Batis, not when there is the Sigma 135/1.8 on the market.
