The Tesla Thread

Wow that's annoying I would have thought a 32a commando + some sort of cable would be ok.

To be clear the most common wall chargers aren't actually chargers but a control circuit for single phase AC with some logic to communicate with the car. The unit has current sensing protection in the case of a short or a DC leakage from the car to the mains AC. The charger is on board the car and converts the AC to DC for the battery.

Bjorn (YT reviewer) has a Juice Booster that can plug straight into a commando socket with up to 32A single or 3 phase which gives up to 22kw charging but the inline electronics are still there for protection and current control. It has many adaptor options but it's expensive.

Ordered my SR+ through NHS Leasing three weeks ago. No communication yet but I'm not alone.

My Octavia vRS goes back end of November so fingers crossed I get it before then.

Seems crazy cheap through salary sacrifice, my vRS costs me nearly £600 a month in fuel, ved, pcp and insurance.

M3 will be £422 plus electric until April when it'll be £311 plus electric.

How your VRS and M3 costing so much from nhs? My Golf GTI i only pay 183 a month all in?

vRS is private PCP and the Model 3 is I thought, cheap.

Was your GTI on offer? I've just done a quote on a GTI 245 and it came back as £499 salary sacrifice.

Apparently this is not true with the model 3, which comes with a gen 2 UMC and can take full advantage of 32a commando power.

Useful to know just in case I want to install another charge point at my Dad's house. I tried to sell him on my i3 to replace his Astra which he's struggling with being 86 and getting a little stiff in the joints. I took him via train to West Drayton for my collection appointment and think the whole process of buying online and the minimal interior has bemused him somewhat with EVs.

Picked up my Blue P+ on Wednesday, made the trip from Winchester up to The Lakes to see my folks this weekend, very happy with the car so far.

Pictured next to P- a friend picked up a couple of weeks ago. My overall wait was 3 years, 4 months, 19 days.

Congrats :) which delivery center did you collect from ? anything to report on paint or defects found at delivery ?

Heathrow, not found any paint defects. Only issue was my phone, a OnePlus 2 running lineage OS would not work as phone key, an update to the phone fixed this after I got home. Still considering a new phone though as the Bluetooth on this phone is not reliable.

P- = Dual Motor + more speed, can fit 18" or 19" wheels
P+ = higher top speed, bigger breaks, 20" wheels only, spoiler and lower/firmer suspension

I think both come with track mode? Not sure if the P- is still available, may be 'off menu'.

Not quite.

Model 3 Performance comes with all the fast & 18" wheels only.

Add the performance upgrade and you get:
- 20" wheels
- Big brakes
- Lower suspension
- Spoiler (this comes with higher top speed, 145 limit raised to 162).
- Sporty pedals
- Track mode

Irrelevant as *currently* it's not possible to buy the Model 3 Performance in the UK without the Performance upgrade, but it was possible back in June.

P- is slang for performance without performance upgrade, P+ is performance on performance. Confusing name for the package really.

They're not totally sleeper unless de-badged, UK line up is currently:
- SR+ / Standard Range Plus / No badges
- LR / Long Range / "DUAL MOTOR" badging
- P- & P+ / Performance / "DUAL MOTOR" Badging (red underline).

I'm stuck between grey or blue.

What does everyone think?

Blue stood out in rendered pics to me with the aero wheels but I'd cover the chrome in black vinyl but in the end I went grey after asking my niece. She said black or grey but I've had several black and not many grey especially dark so that's what I ordered.

If anyone spots a well fitted half cover for the Model 3 then please post. I was monitoring temps and the model 3 definitely gets toasty in the current ambient with all that glass up top. I've noticed it even just driving around with the heat on my head.

Anyway in particular the back of the screen gets almost too hot to touch so I would advise covering that at least if left in the direct sun. Luckily I have a half cover left over from my i3 which fits better than I would have guessed but isn't perfect. Sat in direct sun light with windows closed it didn't reach 40 DegC from what I can see where before even with the rear windows cracked open it was over 50 DegC when I enabled the cabin overheat protection. At £150 though for the BMW branded item it's not the best solution when a large towel would do :)

Just been quoted £447 to install 7Kw Type 2 tethered Rolec EVHS2140 /OLEV / GPRS Smart wall mounted electric vehicle charging point and installation of a MI Switch.

£1247 minus the £500 OLEV grant. I pay £747 then claim another £300 back from energy trust.

Sound about right?

Mine was £1086 before the £500 grant. So I paid £586. Mine was on a new build though, and a relatively easy install.
