The Tesla Thread

I like the dash cam but there’s a degree of PR that works well. Spotify has been in JLR cars since 2016 and is actually just being dropped from incontrol apps as AppleCar play covers it now amongst many other app. Also things like Shell payments for forecourt payments, of course no incentive for that in a Tesla. :p

Who wants netflix in a car ?!

It's for when you're parked up (Supercharging, waiting for somebody you're picking up etc.) It's a nice option to have. As is sensible, you can't watch it when you're on the move. Full Self Driving isn't good enough to get rid of an attentive driver just yet.

SHELL INSTALLS UK’S FIRST 150KW HIGH-POWERED ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER ON A FORECOURT
Jul 04, 2019
London, UK - Shell has launched the UK’s first 150kW electric vehicle charger on a forecourt1. The new charger is a part of Shell Recharge, Shell’s on-forecourt Electric Vehicle (EV) charging service, and is now available for use at Shell’s Battersea Service Station (Shell Little Waitrose Battersea, 326 Queenstown Road).

 Anyone who waits around in their car...the same people who have for eternity specked the TV tuner and DVD functions in cars forever...

Could just use an iPad.

I guess it may have some uses but it’s hardly a key feature on a car when we are discussing critical features such as flat paint, panel gaps etc.

Oh totally agreed. Personally the only in car function i use on any car is Bluetooth. My phone does everything better than even a brand new car would.

Don't understand why anybody would think that having extra features that cost you nothing after you purchased the vehicle are negative, or not worth mentioning.

Things like sentry mode, dog mode, Netflix/YouTube, Smart Summon, Tesla Arcade the ability to play games on the in-car entertainment system (with controllers if you wish), opening and closing your garage door (if electric and compatible), the list goes on.

How many cars have any of you ever owned that have become better over time, not worse, and with no cost? Mercedes still want to us to pay for map updates on the satnav, it is almost as bad as Sky still charging for HD services. If it was another car maker adding these features it would be the best thing since sliced bread, but as it is Tesla, then paint is the highest of priorities or something equally as boring like the brake caliper colour or something equally daft.

I wish they'd implement a speed limiter like most other modern cars than mess about with Netflix and Caraoke :(

Speed Limit Mode – This feature limits the acceleration of your vehicle and allows you to set a maximum speed limit between 50 mph and 90 mph. While your car is in Park, you can activate Speed Limit Mode by tapping Controls > Safety & Security on the touchscreen or by tapping CONTROLS on the mobile app. You must use the same 4-digit PIN to enable or disable Speed Limit Mode.

That is in no way the same thing as a conventional speed limiter.

Am I imagining this or did pushing the wiper button hide the consumption screen until you swiped it back. Really annoyed me but in the last couple of days I've noticed the consumption screen slides back again after a couple of seconds?

If that's been fixed due to feedback and an update then that's a perfect example of how the car improves over time. Window vent is still my fav recent update a pity it's just turning Autumn.

Auto wiper is still not sensitive or fast enough to react but I reckon I've spotted something. Due to the varying rake on the screen the water tends to back up lower down the screen and spread out over the sensor. Someone else can Tweet that for me to Elon as I haven't progressed past emails yet :)

It limits the speed, you didn't specify that it had to be exactly the same operation as other cars. How would you like it to operate?

Like every other car. Push a "LIM" button on the steering wheel or stalk at any given speed, and allow the driver to override it if they push the accelerator past a certain point.

Tesla technical team response to my charging issues

Despite using 4 different public chargers, they are blaming a "power surge" at my home address for the issues.

Clearly that's not the case as I have issues with public charging on AC as well.....Yet DC public charging is perfect

They are suggesting I need to call an electrician out to review my home wiring - They are utterly ignoring the fact I have similar charging issues on public chargers!!!

All the text messages back and forward are ridiculous way of trying to solve the problems.

Anyway - experimented this morning.

Public 22kw AC charger – location 1 - 9.48 to 9.57am. Same issues, runs for 2 minutes or so at full speed then comes up with “Charging speed reduced, unplug and try again” – charging speed drops to half speed and stays there.

Public 50kw DC CCS charger – location 2 10.05 to 10.27am – full speed, no interruptions, no issues.

Public AC charger – location 3 - 10.38am to 10.47am - same issues – full speed for a couple of minutes then drops to half charging speed and stays there.

Drove to a friends house who has a Rolec charger and has used this for 3 years on 2 different cars with zero issues. Tried type 2 tethered cable. Same issues again – 11.04am to 11.30am – jumps to 32A initially but quickly resets and starts again at 0amps and then will only go up to 16A and stays there.

I think this is a fairly clear indication that it’s nothing to do with power surges as suggested by Tesla - I’ve used 4 separate chargers this morning, all 3 AC chargers at different locations do not/will not charge at full amps/speed. The DC charger again works perfectly without any issues.

Overall I think that’s 6 public chargers, 3 home chargers and 3 pin plug at my home that all have issues when I connect, 3 separate DC CCS chargers all work perfectly.

Clearly an AC charging issue. Await the updates from Tesla. Service centre is 70 miles away from me....

They are pointless features.

fanboy is strong here. The finish is crap on all Tesla’s I’ve seen, Orange peel paint is another example. So bad a poster in here wanted to reject his car.

Sure they are leading the way on integration etc but having Netflix is not a substitute for poor general car features

Why would you want this when you have adaptive cruise control (i.e. autopilot) so easily accessible? Autopilot works well on most roads that you would want to use such a function. You're asking for old tech that has been massively surpassed.
