The Tesla Thread

£4k + £485 X 48 = £27,280 to rent a car for 4 years. Seems like an expensive way to rent a Tesla to me when the residuals are so high at the moment. The cheapest 2019 Model 3 LR on Autotrader is still £38k (private sale) and comes with 50k on the clock and two very ruined alloys. From a dealer, with sensible miles, the first cars to land in the UK are still selling for £45k.

Yeah, its expensive. I missed out a few months ago when lease deals looked a bit more attractive. There's no harm in me keeping the M135i for, say, 6 months and looking then, but obviously it'll depreciate, etc. so that to consider. I'm impatient but its a lot of money.

Have you considered options to buy / PCP?

If you can put £25k down, and the other £25k on a loan over 4 years @ 3%, your monthly will be around £550 and you will own it at the end.

I can't see how leasing will work out cheaper, and if you get bored, you can just sell the car, clear the loan and get something else in that time.

Yes that is an option, though I'll need to save £10k to be able to do that (at least if my 3am maths are correct :))... Current car worth £30k. £15k outstanding on current loan. M3LR is £49k. Need to find £19k. Can borrow max of £25k on a loan at 2.9%. So need £9k plus charger install. Looks like I'll be saving up for a bit, which is fine.

interesting ev tyre video ... ergh, his ev tyre results suggesting lower rolling resistance/higher range, would normally correspond to reduced handling grip/feel,
plus none of the usual german/tuv tyre review experiments to look at minimum dry/wet turn radius of the two tyres - so very subjective on his part (is this the card you first picked)
Doesn't discuss any difference in compound for ev tyres, which bridgestone have, as discussed in the id3 tyre thread, with their reduction in tread depth, & block movement
to allow torque to be more efficiently transferred to the road https://www.greencarcongress.com/2009/01/bridgestone-eur.html etc.

his conclusions too, on the marginal 1m dry braking distance, noise reduction, improvements - statistically significant ?

I remembered the video was in my YouTube recommendations a while back (I guess I watch too many EV related videos!), but it’s actually also one of the top hits on Google now.

I’ve not watched any of his others but when I watched it originally, I did check the comments and they were very positive and there was very little discourse on his methodology/results.

Have you considered the (was) SR+? That’ll save you £7k and it’s range has increased.

Picked mine up today. Was a bit disappointed in range, drove 100 miles and down to 40% charge from full, however the garage that put 4 tyres on yesterday did 3 to 35 psi and 1 to 28 and missed the dustcap of that one too:rolleyes:. Got it hooked up to the granny charger at a massive rate of 8 miles an hour (dropped it to 8 amps). Could probably get away with 10A as the volt drop is only 0 atm:p. I've got the app setup, and I'm going to setup phone access rather than the annoying card, but I can't figure out how to add another person, on the app it tells me I can't so not sure if it's due to not using the phone yet.

Oh also its been partially debadged as there's only tesla written on the back, I might leave it through as it looks quite neat.

You know the range is WILT or whatever it's called right? As in the same as MPG ratings are under test conditions.
I didn't but I was looking into it last night, just seemed odd that even at 100% charge the car stated it had less than that range. Lol my app has just informed me the cabin is up to temp so will be nice and toasty when I go out to work.

The car shows the certified range in the US which is different to the certified range in the UK as the tests are different. Tesla website in UK shows the certified UK range.

SR or LR? 100 miles on 60% charge seems about right for SR this time of year but low for a LR unless you're driving it above 70mph most of the time.

Ballpark on SR+ in winter is 60/65% "efficient" - Up to around 75/80% in summer.

Honestly - for any new owners

My tips

- change to % range rather than miles
- Drive the car when you need to
- Charge when you need to

Ignore all the other nonsense....

Far to many M3 owners out there that are analysing every wh/m, range figure, charging moment, smallest thing wrong etc etc. Charging to 90% every time, schedule charging, over night charging 12-4am etc etc etc...... They spend more time faffing around with the car than they do driving it.

Just enjoy the car - keep it simple. Drive when you need to, charge when you need to - it's that simple.....

Had mine over 2 years now and great car, never once bothered about range/efficiency etc - Does the school run/400 mile trips etc - all in it's stride.

It's a 69 reg performance. Was driving it down M1/18/62 (and experiencing the torque;)). I just thought it might be a bit smarter, this morning I drove 16 miles but lost 25 miles range. I assume the journey of the difference is due to heating in the car and lights, but it would be nice if it were more accurate. Not sure I'd want to go with percent over miles though. The cruise and autopilot seem to be having a hissy fit though, however I've read it may be due to the usb device, in my case I've got a thumbstick in there and I've ordered an ssd as a replacement. I'm still sorting stuff out, it did that bit software update last night so I'm not sure if that reset anything. Kids enjoy it and had funny messing in it, told them it needs to stay clean or I'll get angry.

Picked mine up this morning from Bluewater, staff were friendly and the handover was very brief as most people have experienced. Just two guys there dealing with about 30 cars.

The car seems fine but the outside was not the cleanest and it was inside a multi-storey car park so the light was terrible.

I’ve spotted a very small chip dirt (:)!) on the top of the sill which will need sorting, I’ll check the rest properly when I get home.

Just topping the car off at a supercharger as I’ll be on a 3 pin for a few weeks and I’ll no doubt want to go out for another drive later. The car was pulling 145kw when I plugged in, not bad.

Nice!

Just under 14 hours to get mine :D

Driven the CLS for the penultimate time and got my insurance sorted for tomorrow :D

Just watching some netflix while waiting fir my daughter. The dealer didn't even wipe the previous owners account, if I was less honest could have had some real fun:cry:. Noticed the cruise control/auto drive preview thing seems to stop working about 50% of the time. Been doing some research and wonder if it's usb related. I've ordered an ssd just incase. Also noticed some sort of squeak from the drivers door so will see if a quick squirt of something gets rid of it. My range does drop quick though, I lost 25 miles driving 16:p.

I went over the car again this afternoon and it seems the chip was actually dirt and it had left the car by the time I'd got home. :p No obvious scrapes or bumps but I couldn't really check the car today as the pick up location was in a multi story car park so it was basically dark and its basically poured with rain all day. No doubt there is plenty of pre-installed swirl marks under all the water.

I'm getting it booked in with a detailer for ceramic coating in the new year, I think I am going to avoid washing it until then.

The drive home was decent, auto pilot had calibrated by the time I got through the Dartford tunnel and I spent the rest of the near 100 mile drive home on auto pilot. The car had 40% charge when I picked it up, they suggested to jump on the supercharger there if needed but I knew better as the battery would have been stone cold. The car suggested I could have made it home on what I had but that would have meant driving pretty slowly and that isn't me. I stopped at the Colchester supercharger (V2) for a charge, got their at 7%, the car nicked loads of energy warming up the battery but when I got there it maxed out a V2 charger.

The auto wipers didn't really work until the autopilot has finished calibrating after that they were pretty decent. Auto pilot did well on the drive home, no complaints there. Not really much else to say which hasn't already been said about a Model 3, the launch off the lights in the wet was solid ;), I'm very happy with it overall.

It's now charging off the granny lead at a especially glacial 6A from the garage. The garage runs off the main ring from a fused spur, which also has a fridge freezer and a load of Christmas lights plugged into.

Have fun tomorrow @{SAS}TB!

You can enable pre-heating so it will warm up on route to the super charger.
