The Tesla Thread

i expect it says schedule a service appointment because you’ll inevitably nudge the camera and take it out of alignment and it will need to be recalibrated.

IIRC, if you get the windscreen replaced by auto glass etc. part of the procedure is for Tesla to remote into the car and recalibrate the camera.
Not any more, you can run the camera recalibration yourself now and it no longer needs to be initialised by Tesla.

Word of caution for anyone needing a windscreen replacement for their Tesla - avoid Autoglass at all costs. They use 3rd party glass now and not Tesla OEM glass. The glass they now use is very poorly finished, has laminate imperfections on the edging and the black surround is lopsided so from the inside of the car it looks abysmal.

Had mine done today and found all this out after they fitted it. Got them to check another panel they had it stock - exactly the same issues.

I’ve had to drive away with it in, they’re ordering another screen (3rd party again because they won’t order from Tesla). I’ve said I’m not having it unless it’s perfect. Spoke to my insurer and they’re escalating it internally apparently (it’s Admiral so they force you to use Autoglass)

Frustrating.

Mmmmm, I had my windscreen replaced on my model Y last year. Not sure how to tell what it is? Not noticed it looking bad, but what I have noticed is bloody awful wind noise over 60mph

also with Admiral

Does yours have the Tesla logo on it bottom right (as you look at the car front on).

A lot of the windscreen surround has laminate broken, like in this photo:

And it’s hard to take a photo of the black surround being completely wonkey, but you’ll see it on this image if you zoom in a bit:

No, it says FUYAO

There won’t be a software update that addresses it because theres only so much you can do with a camera-only system. The rain sensors have always been useless, and phantom braking has been a problem ever since Autopilot launched.

Radar cruise was considerably more useable on my Golf, I rarely bother with autopilot unless the motorway is pretty empty.
I mean, there isn't even a rain sensor, it's just the same cameras that do autopilot etc. Absolutely pants.

The auto wipers have always been crap, it's the only thing I don't like about the car

Ideally they should pony up the cash and buy the licence to use the sensors. Put the stalks and sensors back please! Never gonna happen.

Thanks for checking. Maybe I’ll let them try another install then once they’ve got the glass in
cant comment on the quality but when you say problems with the laminate cracking , that just the plastic laminate not been trimmed off the edge tbh they should have trimmed it with a stanley knife prior to fitting.

The images don’t do it justice, it’s much worse than that, and the black ‘surround’ doesn’t meet the edges so it looks completely off, especially when the sun hits it

Looks annoying side to side and along the bottom. I know it's purely aesthetic but that would annoy me too, and once I've seen it I can't unsee it.

Absolutely this...drives me mad, and the phantom braking is downright dangerous at times...I really hope a software update addresses it soon..
AP (well, what’s available in the UK/keeping you in the lane) is interesting but anything other than near empty dual carriageway/motorway is a big no no. We basically stopped using it after a couple of weeks because it felt dangerous, jittery and just no trust in it. And yeah the phantom breaking scares the living **** out of you.

Nice idea, but frankly, a gimmick in its current form. Maybe it works better in America but until it’s unlocked for us we’ll never know.

Yeah it's really annoying - the more I drive it the more I'm not sure I can be bothered to let them have another go with 3rd party glass. I may just push for Tesla glass and see what happens.
