To be fair, the discussion was around me moaning that I can't decide if the extra 70 miles and AWD is really worth the £9k or not. Journey was pointing out that you should stop for a break during long drives anyway, rather than trying to make 200+ miles in one go.

You should have, as in both those instances the journey is completed passing several potential charging stops in both directions, but the person is choosing not to stop for whatever reason.
At an average of 60MPH for 450 miles you drove for 7.5 hours, plus breaks totalling 45 minutes, equals around 8.25 hours of travelling, with your enjoyment time in between that I assume.
Google maps says 9.5 hours which sounds about right as it wasn't all motorway. Hard to say really as it was split over 2 days. Not that I can really see why it matters!
Not needing to pee for four hours is normal for most people!
There seems to be a correlation between EV enthusiasts and weak bladders. Strange!
Your argument is basically making the assumption that everyone else should “be like you”. Not everyone wants or needs to stop so frequently. Not everyone has the same viewpoint. You’re the low hanging fruit for EVs which is why you’ve had one for a while. Much of the rest of the population is not and there in lies the rub. Should they make relatively large changes to the way they travel to accommodate a new vehicle?
The other point to make is that just because you like to stop at places with chargers, and/or they’re close to your routes, does not mean the same for everyone else. Many people would rather stop somewhere more scenic than where most chargers are, they may prefer to stop at a different food place, they may have to go tens of miles from their route to charge, adding significant time. All those are negative factors that shouldn’t be dismissed because you think they can just “stop” when they need to charge.

The two specific cases in point were people wanting to get where they were going as fast as possible, so I hardly think taking the scenic route is an option if they want to get there as quickly as possible. As I said I don't car what type of car you are driving, not stopping on a long journey is not good for health/tiredness etc, and its just not cool, it is almost dumb.

No where did I say take the scenic route, rather stop somewhere more scenic. On most routes there are far nicer places to stop than a large service station or shopping centre car park, which is where chargers usually are. Personally I prefer stopping at a lay-by with a nice view to stretch my legs. I’ve even been know to pop up a Tor as some exercise on a long journey to the SW.
How often you need to stop is really personal preference/experience factored with the roads you’re driving on. Driving the A303 at rush hour is going to make you far more tired than the A1 up north at 10am for example.
Sorry, just assumed for someone that was making claims about just how convenient they were you had some experience with them.

Lol, well insurance is coming out at a frankly ridiculous £1k for a Performance (30’s / Essex / 7 yrs NCB).
In fact a R8 V10 Plus is cheaper to insure.
Anyone have any experience with insuring Tesla’s? Heard it was bad but this is crazy. A C63S is less than £500.

Ok thanks, I’ll take a look. Hmmm, direct line don’t list a model 3 on the site.
I’d heard LV were cheaper but they only quote with a tracker seemingly.
Will give them both a call 2mz, from the sounds of things it’s going to be a lot either way.
Apparently the built in GPS on the Tesla meets the tracker requirements but you might want them to put it in writing. I haven't found any insurers quoting for Model 3 yet.

While it may have been marketed as the “cheap” Tesla, they’re a premium car/brand, so they were never going to be the same money as a Nissan or Ford.
Tesla used values are a lot stronger than the equivalent Chevy or Nissan EV, though the model S prices tanked, but that was more down to the Model 3 being so much newer, and no update to the S since launch.

after the discussion on range, could you use a m 3 on a touring holiday ? thinking of France route napoleon, alpine col's, ski resorts ?

Actually the most drastic drop was when the model 3 became readily available. The price drop did affect it somewhat, but not to the same extent.
If you use the cars navigation it will plan the entire journey for you, routing you through the chargers and telling you approx how long to stop and charge. The arrival battery % is scarily accurate.

Price hasn't surprised me much, if anything I'm surprised the SR+ is available at all right now. Three and a bit years ago when I reserved I was looking to try to get my config under £40k, but my situation has improved so I pulled the trigger on the Performance model.
I'm not getting FSD, as I don't see it becoming good enough in the UK soon, hopefully we'll get advanced warning if they're about to raise the price for that upgrade.
