Hang on we dont even have next gen games yet really.. Too early to make assumptions on performance differences between the consoles i personally feel.

Give it 1 year, then we will have a truer picture

Its going to be interesting going forward into the consoles lifespan which approach will work better. Faster fewer CUs or Slower but more CUs

I have just been reading though that the Xbox GPU has support for DirectML (similar to DLSS) and that the PS5 doesn't. So going forward, and if devs start implementing DirectML to upscale, then the Xbox could pull further ahead in the use of ray tracing, performance wise anyway

Possibly, but its likely that sony have a pro version in the wings to deal with this type of situation.

Turing is EOL. Nvidia won't be wasting any more time optmising titles for it or this game is just really well optimised for RDNA.

If it is really well optimised I do wonder how this will work out with RDNA2 vs Ampere. Could the 6800 be bumping shoulders with the 3090.
Yup, that's a classic Nvidia move. That's why I really hope I can grab an RDNA 2 GPU at launch, it's going to age so fiiiiiiiiiiiiine.

Yeah I think this is the most likely the issue, from what I'm hearing right now the ps5 and Xbox is basically on par when it comes to performance. The reason why can be explained as the fact that games out now are not designed for next gen machines, all these games are designed for current gen. It's going to take a solid 2 years before we see next gen engines developed that can make use of the power available

You're right and wrong.

both the ps5 and Xbox indeed supports DirectML :)

The only difference is that the Xbox has hardware acceleration units on the processor that can accelerate AI workloads like DirectML. The PS5 does not, so when the PS5 runs DirectML its processed by the Compute Units using a sort of emulation

All RDNA2 GPUs can run Direct ML and DXR Ray Tracing, whether they have hardware accelerated units or not is irrelevant.

Ah feels so good to live in Europe ( not ). Why does US get 1 week extra to play with the shinies?

Im waiting for my already paid ps5 and demon souls to come but guess my money wasnt kosher enough to get it on the 12th...

Also, i guess they failed on the ‘Gpus will come out before the new consoles’ part. Or might be true still for EU. But 1 day difference only? Lol.

And those Aussies who get 1 week + 1 day ahead of you guys haha

Well, the reference versions are at least! I imagine many will be going for AIB models and that they will be like hens teeth.
True. I was also thinking more around proper benchmarking. Embargo lifting. RT Perf testing etc. I feel its about to get very interesting.

I thought XFX had gone bust ? I know OCUK wouldnt touch them at one point.

I think it was more to do with poor products. The first iteration of the 5700xt were hot and loud. from what i believe later models werent bad.

With AMD cards, its best to go Sapphire or Powercolour then maybe Gigabyte... Their 5700xt's were great from what I saw
