Wow that is shocking

There's probably almost a thousand people in this forum alone trying to get one

Its a bit difficult to put all that in context though without knowing what numbers shifted before/in the months following after a big GPU release is. Is it demand is way up for this generation of cards? Is supply notably down on a normal product launch? A perfect storm of both at once?

A major Canadian store reported 100 units on launch day (all variants) for 4000 customer orders.

A Danish Europe wide shop had 14k orders and 350 units delivered from suppliers a month after release. That same shop has now had 2000 orders fufilled since the cards were released in Sept.

Lots of people won't be seeing their orders until next year unless there are mass cancellations.

I think there was a limit, under normal circumstances, and we saw the 2080ti hit it. Even jensen said sales were a gut punch.
Now that we are forced indoors, and are saving money due to less travel and Greggs, that limit has probably moved up.

(I totally agree that the differences between the haves and have-nots has increased, but then PCs at this end of the market is mostly about the haves. Those without are struggling to get a laptop for the kids to do their homework.)

i dont understand why ?

So why are we having furlough schemes when there is plenty of cash at hand it seems?

I know this has been said already but there are definitely 2 directions this pandemic has taken people - some have not been off at all and in fact some industry has seen growth, but then there is the other side who I can assure you have been hammered by this.

I work in car finance - not at a dealer - I work on a basic wage plus a "discretionary" commission, because of that wording in my contract I can only claim 80% of my basic wage, so I am earning about 45% of the wage I have been on for the last 15 years give or take.

Without furlough I wouldn't have a job - and this is true for many many people. And no I won't be buying a new card any time soon  I do still pay attention to threads like this because this will not last forever

So basically we either have to buy one blind, or check the reviews and wait a few months? As we most certainly won't be able to check reviews and then buy one in stock.

Buy blind, read reviews, cancel order if reviews don't pan out.

Optimistic view that there's enough stock to buy anything blind or not.

If you're quick enough on the buzzer you should be able to get one, problem is it's luck of the drawer who managed to get to the checkout when the websites come up after crashing out.

And then, bots, bots everywhere.

I have not been hit much and its only in the last few months i been out of work.

However i have saved a lot and dont need to work for a few years basically.

I am also trying to find my next contract gig but am being a bit picky and there is a bit more demand now as well.

I am basically trying to find something so i dont just spend all day in this forum moaning about covid/brexit/stock pc component issues lol and do something productive.

But just because of my privaledge position, i still feel for those who have lost there jobs etc while loads are able to spend 1500 on a gpu.

Mind you as it was mentioned here. Nvidia only makde like 2/3k of 3000 series cards worldwide!! Let that sink in!!!

That is ver very BAD stock levels even if there was no pandemic

I doubt anyone currently on furlough will be buying a 3000 series or 6000 series card........

On the flip side, some of us are lucky enough to have secure jobs/income despite the pandemic and with working from home and reduced opportunity to spend (holidays, meals out etc), significant savings have been made since March, enough that we can consider a substantial PC upgrade.

OK guys my local non-UK online store just posted the following information which some of you may find useful as a gauge for what may happen in the UK, I think they are being more transparent now as they got a lot of criticism from the Nvidia and Zen3 launches:

On November 18, 2020 at 3:00 p.m., the sale of AMD's Radeon 6800 graphics cards begins. The reference cards will be received in a strictly limited edition, custom designs are available in the usual variety.
On October 28, Frank Azor (Chief Architect at AMD) unveiled the new NEXT-generation AMD Radeon 6000 graphics cards. If you haven't seen the presentation, you can use the catch up here. The GPUs are based on the RDNA-2 architecture, come with GDDR6 memory and 16 GB of VRAM. There are two release dates for you: for the reference tickets, the start is November 18, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. and for the Custom Cards it is November 25, 2020 also at 15:00. More information about the launches and the respective maps can be found below.

Radeon 6800 / 6800 XT Reference Design
  • Price: The sale price of the new Radeon graphics cards will be announced from 18 November at 15:00.
  • Delivery date: We have learned that certain maps are on the way by air freight. The exact delivery date is currently unknown. We will inform you about this page regarding the new delivery dates.
  • Availability: We get a limited number of pieces, the number of pieces will be very small. How many exactly, is currently still open. If we know the exact quantity, we will activate a quantity counter on November 18. If the counter is no longer visible, the quantity is sold out. We will then end the pre-sale of the tickets. Because there are no more reference cards.
  • Order quantity: We have limited the maximum order quantity to one piece per person. This gives all interested parties a better chance of getting on the train. For sales orders with higher quantities, we cancel the quantities that exceed one piece.
  • Brands: The reference designs will be available in three versions of the brands ASUS and MSI.
At least they are putting controls in place for 1x per customer and a limited number of tickets. Sucks that it's only ASUS and MSI though!

I can't imagine unless it's legally legislated that anything will change? The big stores give the PR "We hate bots/scalpers" but the truth is the stocks gone it's easy money for them and no longer their problem.
I have health complications genuinely who knows how many xmas I have left but I have a 7 year old this xmas who wont be getting his first games console he wants and his daddy desperately wants to get him because some fat Karren made a Tiktok video bragging she scalped 10 PS5's... Im all for entrepreneurial business but this practice this however is not, its just greed and it has a human cost it's also why still having no GPU despite having paid for one 3 months ago not everyone has the time to just sit and wait.

Really sorry to hear that about the sickness, I hope there are many Xmases left! For now you will have to just entertain him the traditional way using a sockpuppet, or buy a cheap PS4 to tide you over. :D

3k units worldwide for the 3000 launch series. It's Limited Edition. They really could have raised the prices had they embraced that angle. 1k for the rtx 3080 le fe :p

Yeah imagine buying a graphics card on furlough.

I'm buying a new bike I've spent a year trying to find stock of instead :p

Appreciate the msg, I might just get him a cheap Xbox and use the game pass until stock's available next year? Seems the only option, I have my trackers up all the time but like with the Xbox Series X then only place that had stock was John Lewis, got one in my basket but by the time you hit 'pay' the bots have auto paid and it's gone so not holding much hope for this Thursday when PS5 gets a few more around in stock...

Hmm the sock puppet is already used wouldnt let kids near that now :D:D:D:D. (jk!).

I am very curious to know what job you do that apparently doesn't need much brainpower to do it and yet apparently earns you large wads of cash. :p

Theres similar problems getting those too isnt there?

My stock trackers (and have about 20 running) haven't shown any Xbox stock for since the 13th, PS5 wont activate until Thursday but expect the same, Microsoft saying now APril 2021 until it clears the backlog!
THat doesn't bode well for the 6000 series either!
