Some reviews will trickle out before retail availability no doubt, sucks for those stuck at work though.

Demand is exceptionally high but it's utterly ridiculous to claim there isn't a shortage, a few thousand units to supply the entire world? Give over.

How do you know how many there are globally?

WHAT!

That's like saying AMD only produced 100 and they ran out.
That's over demand!.

AMD didn't make enough to go round like the boss said there would be.
That's another fail like NV.

Sorry, I should have added a wink smiley ;)

Seriously though, the scarcity marketing model is actually a thing:-

I don't think the low volume is a mistake, I think it's been engineered by both Nvidia and AMD to drive sales and brand desirability.

People may be basing it on the '1200 reference units for the UK' rumour

Right, that's 1200 of AMD's own cards, IE not including AIB models which admittedly are not due for a week or so later but there will be many more of those, the vast majority of chips will have been sent to AMD's partners, globally there is probably at least 50,000 to 100,000 reference units sent out, the UK has a population of around 70 million, its way down the list of market importance. The US and China will be at the top of that list.

Not selling product could be a strategy, but it's a rather stupid one. -particularly in a global pandemic where demand for PC components is through the roof anyway.

There's a few thousand people interested in a new gpu on this forum alone lol

Real information... Rather than speculation.

I just found out another online retailer has had 0 stock of 6800s allocated by AMD.

So I think that paints a certain picture and I'm quite disappointed. So sounds like it will be a fight to the death tomorrow that I don't want to take part in...

To be honest I don't think you can believe anything these retailers are saying. I was told the same by a Danish retailer and today up popped an RX 6800, although not in stock it still showed, and conveniently enough it's been removed again just now. So I wonder, what game are they playing really.

Be good if retailers could actually let the public know if they're going to be receiving stock or not....I'd take that as doing the public a solid.

3k units worldwide for the 3000 launch series. It's Limited Edition. They really could have raised the prices had they embraced that angle. 1k for the rtx 3080 le fe :p

Where did you get rubbish 3K number worldwide?

The numbers did not added it all up!

When RTX 3080 was launched in UK on 17 September 2020 OCUK already sold 1000 RTX 3080s and shipped with Watch Dogs: Legion promotion code. 6 of OCUK competitors also each offered Watch Dogs: Legion promotion code mean approx 7000 RTX 3080s was sold in UK on 17 September 2020. If you read Gibbo delivery thread and add numbers up showed OCUK had been shipped approx 3422 RTX 3080s, 1419 RTX 3090s and 615 RTX 3070s to date. 1 OCUK competitor listed how many cards shipped in November week 1: 294 RTX 3070s, 324 RTX 3080s, 388 RTX 3090s. Week 2: 262 RTX 3070s, 144 RTX 3080s, 328 RTX 3090s. Unfortunately I did not checked numbers in September and October as they updated columns with November numbers.

Over 13196 RTX 3000 series cards was sold in UK to date.
