I doubt anyone currently on furlough will be buying a 3000 series or 6000 series card........

On the flip side, some of us are lucky enough to have secure jobs/income despite the pandemic and with working from home and reduced opportunity to spend (holidays, meals out etc), significant savings have been made since March, enough that we can consider a substantial PC upgrade.

Yea its amazing how much you can save from not going on out!

Well lets put it this way, i come here to switch off my brain and chill ;)

What i do does require brain power!!
I'm only teasing jonney, I'm (mostly) sure it does, we all have our niches!

Not going out partying + stopping drinking (both of which I stopped anyway before the pandemic hit as I went on a major health kick) = wads of disposable income. Plus like amigafan said, there are a lot of people lucky enough to have a safe and secure job with big companies with good infrastructures where working from home is all fine.

I'm buying a new bike I've spent a year trying to find stock of instead :p
AH yeah that's another one. My girlfriend's bike was stolen and I simply can't buy a replacement. I contacted a dealer for the same model and he said they are expecting ONE in April. How do manufacturers survive with that kind of production?

Bikes in general went through an insane explosion in popularity with COVID... they can't keep up with the level of demand at all. Especially Ebikes.

That's always been my way of affording the things I own. I don't make the most amount of cash so I choose to have things rather than go out. People who go the other way I can see wanting to enjoy the things they normally wouldn't get.

Worldwide release figures were something in the region of a few (2-5k) thousand, Max. Australia and some European countries got something like double digits. Some versions were single digits.
Is this just a guess from the stock figures we've had released from certain stores?

Also if this is true and if the UK is getting 1200 units of graphics cards. I just can't see AMD allocating 1/5 of the global supply to the UK. So it already looks better than the Ampere launch. But that is if they are both true.

Am i bad for already having an Xbox Series X and still wanting a 5900X and 6800XT? :( Ive worked continuously throught out Covid since the start, so has my wife, but she works from home. Im still required to visit site, albeit alternate weeks to keep risk of infection down from affecting the entire team (were split into 2 teams at the mo).

I think Covid is partially to blame for the lack of silicon availability for all manufacturers but for AMD i do think putting all their eggs into the TSMC basket is potentially biting them on the rear end, and we all wondered what AMD would fudge up with their launch (as its always inevitable) and so far we have Frank Azor saying Stock will be good, which now looks to potentially be a bit of a lie.

Realistically i dont think we will see constantly available stock until April 2021 for all GPU's and CPU's and Consoles

Another reason why demand is so high for consoles and pc parts is PayPal 4 months free credit and 0 fee credit cards has made it very easy for people to buy things they haven't saved up for and probably can't quite afford I know I've been guilty of it in the past. £150/£200 a month for 4 months is quite achievable for most for a new gpu, it's not sensible in these uncertain times but a lot of people will get caught up in the hype.

All manufacturers are being hit with covid related problems (supply chain issues, staff shortages, shipping delays) - I'm in the middle of a side extension and it's a nightmare trying to find the appliances I want in stock anywhere. One store quoted me mid March for delivery! That's before I even get onto the near impossibility of finding a builder to quote or trades to do the work.

Well, look at this it this way - save 150 a month for four months and get the gpu in four months OR pay 150 a month for four months and get the gpu now?

I know which one makes sense to me, esp if you are sure you definitely could have saved the 150 a month.

Depends on if you are personally comfortable with that or if you're looking to internet strangers to validate your justification? :p ;)

The hype on here suggests there is massive demand for new GPUs, whether from nVidia or AMD. I think we can safely assume stock is going to be hard to come by for the new cards - I mean regardless of what AMD are saying, are they really going to be shipping thousands of units to every retailer, which is probably only the tip of the iceberg for demand. There are thousands of back-orders for the nVidia cards, so that doesn't include all the people who still want to get a card but don't want to pre-order. The bit that has me scratching my head is what people are meant to do if they're looking to build a new PC - there is close to nothing available to buy at all.

Yeah that's what I'm saying its very easy for people to buy things these day even if they don't have the cash to do so making demand for products even greater.

So basically we either have to buy one blind, or check the reviews and wait a few months? As we most certainly won't be able to check reviews and then buy one in stock.

Some reviews will trickle out before retail availability no doubt, sucks for those stuck at work though.

There isn't a shortage, there is just too much demand.

Demand is exceptionally high but it's utterly ridiculous to claim there isn't a shortage, a few thousand units to supply the entire world? Give over.
