So shipments of these cards are still terrible whilst nvidia are managing to provide cards by the hundreds each day (to a retailer publishing these numbers).
AMD has lost this round in every conceivable metric.

The most awful launch I've ever seen. For shame.

I wont for a second defend this GPU release as far as availability goes, but form a technical standpoint AMD are arguably better in many conceviable metrics and to state otherwise is nonsense.

6800XT is a viable alternative to the 3080 on many levels and is arguably better at rasterisation on 1080p and 1440p and not far behind in 4K. The only benefit for 3080 is RT.
The 6800 is far better than the 3070 in every way apart from RT and even then it's reasonably close. Then you have the VRAM capacity which on the 3070 not even a contest compared to the 6800.

So how they executed the release is an utter joke and nothing to do with demand. But from a techincal standpoint big Navi is actually very, very good. It's not like Nvidia have executed any better and again to arguer otherwise is ridiculous.

About as bad as Nvidia's. They at least have a two month head start as regards stock.

Not even close. Nvidia (or more accurately partners) have been shipping AIB cards consistently since the beginning.

The first AIB cards for RDNA2 dropped last week in tiny volumes.

Far more people are getting FE cards (at RRP) consistently as well since they gave the regular stock to a retailer.

TSMC can't come close to fulfilling 7nm orders, and unlike Nvidia, AMD is trying to spread it's allocation between GPUs, CPUs, PS5 and Xbox. And that's just the retail stuff, not including datacentre/AI/deep learning products.

We're just going to have to wait until TSMC can build more capacity, demand goes down, or you get lucky by grabbing one of the products you want from the trickle available..

Lol, what? I have been using Discord in the hope of getting an RTX 3080 and have seen almost nothing for months. The odd one pops up but sells out in seconds and more often than not well above MSRP. You are making it out that if someone want an RTX 3080 they can easily get one and that is pure BS.

You are on the wrong discords. There has been a steady stream of ampere cards. If I wasn't holding out for an FE card I would have a 3080 by now. Today there was a big drop and one store had 3080's in stock for almost an hour.

Today 20 models dropped in the UK.
This week, not including today, 25 different models dropped.

So if you have seen nothing for months, then your on a terrible discord and should try a different one. What @muon says is entirely correct. And every week that goes by there are more and more coming online.

Is it easy? nope, but, it's not as difficult as you make it out to be and getting a 3080 card is simple compared to getting a 6800XT.

You got any advice on discords to use? I am working a lot and don't work in a job where I can easily drop things to get to my phone etc, but having a slightly better chance would be appreciated.

Oh, no, I've been jumping through the wrong hoops to get a GPU. If that is youre best argument as to why Nvidia have exexcuted a better release then you have already lost your argument. I have been on multiple discords and 3080 stock does drop but usually well above MSRP and the AIB's that pop up are massively overpriced. Unless you are trying to argue that the 3080 is readily available for purchase and people don't have to monitor discord and other sources in the hope of getting "lucky". So no, neither you or muon are arguing from a position of honesty by declaring Nvidia a winner in this regard. You can't remotely claim Nvidia are much better than AMD for satisfying demand because both have crap availability right now and that's the only truth that matters.

Getting a GPU from either AMD or Nvidia is like a choice between eating your own poo or drinking your own ****. But if you want a GPU you need to pinch your nose and swallow.

Also, nvidia have had their cards on the market around a month and a half longer than amd, should stand to reason that there's some more of them knocking about. People are approaching this like they launched at the same time, which obviously wasn't the case.

BS, just because you were caught in a lie. Saying that there were no 3080 cards for months on Discord. Keep moving those goal posts.

It's not that hard getting an Ampere card if you have a little patience. Where as it's next to impossible to get the 6800XT.

The point Muon made was that the AMD stock at launch and since launch has been far worse than Nvidia's. Which is true. It's a fact.
