The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

This format does not work if there is no chemistry between the presenters and none are genuinely funny.

They should forget old top gear and become a serious car show.

Being a serious car show is exactly what made the original Top Gear unsuccessful. They aren't going to make that mistake again.

Their presenting seems so wooden and unnatural.

Its missing the 3rd person - they need to change either Rory or Chris for someone who has chemistry with whichever one is left behind and while I've nothing against Rory he is more expendable than Chris.

May Hammond and clarkson didn't have instant chemistry whilst it feels forced I feel y'all are being a tad critical I'll keep watching for now it's better than the filler episodes in the walking snorefest.

My gut feeling is that BBC have probably decided that this will be a last ditch effort, and if it fails (likely) they will probably concede and bin the show completely.

Why so desperate for it to fail? I agree they don't have the chemistry of Clarkson etc, but so far I'm finding it as enjoyable to watch as TGT, (which frankly I thought was a bit of an anticlimax). Personally I'm just happy to have two high budget car based entertainment shows to pick from now, one of them featuring a proper car journalist whom I've enjoyed watching for years.

Good foundation to build on for sure.

Being overly critical is unfair - good as clarkson et al we're on top gear TGT was forced and cringeworthy at times because its new and needs to bed down a bit.

Two to pick from - good news

It feels like they're trying to hold on to something that they should just let go of, it's frankly embarrassing. They lost Clarkson and with that, they lost Top Gear. The show evolved from humble beginnings as a serious car show in the 1970s to the extravaganza it became with Clarkson. There is nowhere for it to go now except down.

Really like the choice of new car for the stars to drive. This will make this segment actually interesting as evidenced by McAvoy's instruction laps :p

This is what TG should be, none of this shouty ginger in segments and then picking his ears in the studio to gross-out at.

I think the "missions" are too Clarkson, Hammond and May, though. They need to revise the formula, because at present it feels like a less amusing knock-off. Focus on segments like the FXXK, along with motoring talk/news and a bit of banter.

That would be a winning formula, go back to how TG used to be from years gone by, the Tiff Needell era perhaps?

It still lacks the humour the old crew and TGT has. They sound like they are just reeling off lines. The funniest thing in the whole show was the Hasselhoff tape :/

I actually think it's the fact the whole production crew left with Clarkson is why it's lost it's charm. They are trying to mimic what they did and it's just not working.

Oh. Well, I disagree. It's already much more watchable than the first season with Evans. The studio segments a little uncomfortable I agree, but the features are entertaining so far. I think it would be a shame not to hope for the best for the show.
