The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

The attempts at comedy were detectably contrived, probably way too over-rehearsed. Chris Harris was a bit of a knob at the end during the star in a blah blah bit, surprised by that as I normally like him.

The program just isn't natural anymore.

Anyone else find how Harris was paddle shifting that ferrari weird? Like, shifting and then forcibly opening his hand for some reason?

I've noticed hes done it on a few of his videos, and it bugs me....

Certainly an improvement over the Chris Evans series, but just didn't feel right to me.
Will give it time though, & see when it goes. At the moment though I found Grand Tour more enjoyable to watch.

Enjoyed it, more so than the majority of the Grand Tour. Chemistry needs time, but I thought it felt relatively natural, and the new star segment works for me as it doesn't take up a block of time in one go.

Certainly promising and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

People are writing it off already when they seem quite happy to excuse CHM for missteps in TGT "because it's new". Comparing this to TG series 2 when James May arrived, and it's already ahead of that so give it time.

The reason the program isn't natural and everything feels contrived, is because apart from when they are filming together I would put my house on the fact these three presenters are not friends and do not hang out together.

Clarkson May & Hammond are the best of friends and visit each other lots and hang out together lots even when not filming, plus having worked together for almost 15 years they have a far better rapport than Le Blanc, Harris & Reid.

The original trio are far better together and that's why TGT is way better than TG, whoever presents it.

I too thought it was more than "OK", quite funny in places, felt far less scripted than the "Evans" series, certainly no more scripted than TGT is/pre-evans TG was. It's great to see that they've ditched the stupid dual-celebrity rally-cross head-t-head, and I agree with further up that spanning the celebrity across more of the show helps to break up the monotony of it.

Not a bad opening episode content-wise either.

The studio stuff was pretty wooden but it was only the first time they've had the floor to themselves - hopefully it'll improve over time. Rory was pretty good but Chris Harris was, for me, really disappointing. It felt like he was trying to carve out a new character for himself and he chose an unpleasant one. I had a couple of laugh out loud moments - the taxi hitting the bank was great - and overall I enjoyed it.

Hopefully it will keep getting better and push the TGT chaps harder. I think the latter tried to play too hard to an international audience, forgetting the fact that the Britishness was one of the key factors that appealed to an overseas audience.

The opening of the celebrity bit was dreadful and he (whoever he was) felt out of place being stuck to the sofa. The moon mile car bit felt a bit too long because they are not ready to have such long segments together, however, I do think this team can manage to pull it together if everyone sticks with it.

I enjoyed it, much better without evans, and think given time the chemistry could be there. The new set looks great, and the "star" section actually works much better (better than it did with Clarkson imo).

As long as we don't see much if anything of Eddie Jordan, I will be quite happy to carry on watching this.

I enjoyed that - definitely a step in the right direction. Enjoyed the FXXK section and the SIARFC - though I might be a little biased given I drive a GT86 ;) I also didn't miss the Stig - perhaps it's time to put him to pasture and let Harris do the laps?

It feels like they're beginning to find their feet a bit more, and compared to TGT felt a little more grown up. I find it amusing that Top Gear has an actor who can't be natural (because he feels like he needs to act) and TGT are suffering because it's overly scripted and they're crap actors! :D
