The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

Anybody know where there is the list of authorised Olympus dealers?

The TVs and conditions say you must buy from an authorised dealer and click here to see
List but the list is non authorised ones. Okay I can avoid all of them but still possible to buy from somebody on not on the list and it turns out they are not authorised.

Yeah I'm wondering if I could get away with a Bespoke price beat, then 18% quidco plus £75 cashback :p

Most authorised retailers will advertise the cashback, you can always email them to check.

ATM from jessops I can get a em-10 win the kit lens and 40-150 for £499.

Then I was going to add the 60mm macro for £274 after cash back making it £773 in total.

My other option was getting the em-10 mk2 with 14-42 EZ and 40-150 R for £749.

ooor I can get the em-5 with the triple lens kit for £678.

My gut tells me to go with the em-10 + kit + 40-150 and the 60mm macro while the macro is on offer.

Which way would you go?

Have a close look at whether the extra features on the mk2 are worth the extra money to you - the sensor is the same. I'd probably agree with your gut.

Actually I'd probably buy an em10 ez kit through bespoke price beat and quidco, should work out about £330 after cashback. Then put the savings towards whatever other lens you want.

Hi Guys

Recently got a Olympus OM-D EM-10... have the kit lens and a zoom.

I'm really missing the fast lens of old DSLR, so was thinking of a prime. I would love something that can take good macro shots and also be used for portraits, is this possible ?

Which lens here would fit the bill ?, 60mm ?, I'm guessing 60mm is a bit long for portraits.

Shot this earlier but I think I hit the limit of the kit lens and my skills..

Excuse laymans terms :)

The Oly 45 is a great lens for the money and should be spot on for portraits. Only about £120 after cashback at the moment as well.

The 60 is your best bet for macro and could probably double as a portrait lens in a pinch although the af probably won't be as fast, it's a bit longer than the classic focal length and you lost a stop.

I'll echo what king says, the 45 is a cracking lens for the money, but you'll need the dedicated 60 for macro, but that will be on for portrait albeit slower.

Family just ordered the 60mm macro for my Birthday but it was before the 1st October.
Bad timing!

Might be worth returning for that £75 even if you can't get the cheaper prices from some online retailers.

Probably. £75 is £75 after all

Anyone else use exposure bracketing (hdr?)

Also people use single focus or continuous focus AF? (or heaven forbid manual :p)

In Barcelona atm so taking some holiday /Street pictures (prompt responses appreciated!)

Ive tried the camera HDR and seems to work well. Suspect better can be done by bracketing and using software to make the hdr file though.

Continuous AF and single has me mixed up too. I put it on continuous and it was annoying with certain subject types so gone back to single.

Was taking some pics at home this evening and impressed at how good they came out hand held with an exposure time of 2 seconds.
This is with EM1 12-40, F 9, 2secs.

Impressive for 2 seconds. Which MFT did you get?

Doh, just saw its the EM1 with the 5 way stabilising. New firmware this month to give you all the features of the 5 and 10 mark 2 models :)
