The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

There was but thats gone all out of the window with upcoming updates to firmware for the 5 and 1.

If you use the camera comparison on olympus website but then you need to add the following to the em1

This firmware brings several new features to your OM-D E-M1 camera. The main features added in firmware upgrade are:
1. Focus Stacking
2. Focus Bracketing
3. Advanced Focus Peaking
4. Silent Mode
5. Improved Anti-shock Mode
6. Advanced Olympus Capture
7. S-OVF (Simulated OVF)
8. 4K Time Lapse Movie
9. Live Composite on OI.Share
10. MF Clutch Disable
11. Menu Cursor Position Memory
12. Movie image stabilisation with 5-axis optical IS and digital IS
13. 24p (23.98p)/25p Frame Rate
14. Movie Info Display
15. Movie Rec Start with Release Cable (RM-UC1)
16. Time Code Setting
17. M-IS1 and M-IS2 supported
18. Slate Tone
19. Synchronised PCM Audio Rec with Movie Rec
20. M.Zuiko Premium + 14-42mm EZ movie aperture support

And the following to the em5

1. Focus Bracketing
2. Advanced Olympus Capture
3. S-OVF (Simulated OVF)
4. 4K Time Lapse Movie
5. Live Composite on OI.Share
6. MF Clutch Disable
7. Slate Tone
8. Synchronised PCM Audio Rec with Movie Rec
9. Movie-Exclusive Picture Mode: Flat / Noise Filter for video shooting
10. M.Zuiko Premium + 14-42mm EZ movie aperture supported

A good comparison here but doesnt include the mark 2 of the em10 and doesnt account for the firmware changes about to happen.

IMO before the em1 got the firmware, it was starting to lag behind the 5 mark 2 and even the 10 mark 2.

With the firmware the em1 still has a few features which you cant get on the em5 mark 2 but at new prices there is about £40 between these two models now so they are almost the same price wise.

As i said many a bargain em1 can be had on ebay. Hell I have seen em1 sell with 14-40 f2.8 lens for £700. Since the lens alone normall sell for £450 to £500 you are only paying £200-£250 for the em1 body.

Thanks for explaining that so well! Looks like I'm hunting for an EM1 then!

EM1 does have stabilisation right?

No m4/3 lenses - contrast detect in S AF; a combination of contrast and phase detect in C AF
I think 43 lenses only work using Pdaf

Anyone on here have any experience of the Panasonic 14-140mm lens?
Thinking of purchasing it as a pretty much all in one lens for when I travel.
Reviews I have read seem to show it as being pretty good although not to prime standards.

Currently have the 14-42 kit lens, Oly 45mm and a couple of manual lenses 50mm and 70-210 zoom which I don't want to take.

My thinking is to travel with absolute minimum and also avoid lens changes but still have a bit of reach when required.
Will also take the 45mm 1.8 for indoor use as it is tiny anyway.

I've also been considering getting a 14-140/150 lens for travel/holidays and then taking a prime or two with me as well.

From reading up as many reviews as I can find on them, the consensus is the olympus 14-150 is the better lens and slightly sharper than the Panasonic.

A cheaper and almost as good lens is the Tamron 14-150.

As I have the GX7 I would prefer the lens to be stabilised rather that use the in body stabilisation of the GX7 which is not supposed to be as good as the newer Oly bodies.

Looking at EM1 with 12-40 f2.8.

Looks like you can get on the famous fleabay for £900 but is a grey, states that it has 1 year warranty. Would anyone advise against?

Cheers

If buying an import I'd use someone relatively well known like HDEW, you're still relying on their third party warranty but at least they're pretty established.

I bought my camera and lens from HDEW the other day. They were great on the phone, I'd recommend them to anyone :)

Ahhh, the lake of love. (Minnewater), really beautiful and photogenic city Bruges. I can't wait to go back. How long are / were you there for? I hope you sampled many of the beers. My Favourite beer was Cuvee des trolls. But most are really good. If you want to see a pretty cool beer fridge, go to the Carrefour in the centre, i think it's on Sint Jacobstraat or Steenstraat.

Beard needs work.

Give over, I'm barely past the stage of bumfluff that the cat could take off :(

We spent 2 days there, then drove down to Ghent to see that as well, then came home. Absolutely loved it! :)

Will post some pics soon :)

Love the new 25mm F1.8 Prime... really sharp, tons of light even in a dark pub. ISO 200 / 1/60th sec / F1.8

Only complaint with E-M10 so far is it can make you really lazy as you just tap screen for focus point and it takes a photo. The above was good old manual focus though :)

Thinking of getting E-M5 II for myself with prime and letting wife use E-M10 with kit.
