The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

Macro extension tubes. Not bad for twenty quid

New body for me:
Olympus E-PL7 by Andrew Farmer, on Flickr

Upgrade from E-PL5. Primarily wanted it for the wireless control, plus it also works properly with the profiles in VSCO filters.
Considered the E-M10 and E-M5 but really value the ability to use the adjustable add on EVF I have. Shame you cannot tilt the one on the other two bodies.

Great detail in those images Paul, no doubt this feature will come in very useful for some people when doing product photography and making macro shots even more enticing.

Am i wrong to assume that focus bracketing is a standard feature on full frame cameras?

Do not know if it is a feature on ff cameras to be honest it is not really something i enjoyed that much
product photography is very insipid ,in my view but what i learned will be useful when the weather gets more interesting frosts ,spring with dragon flies bugs flowers , it was just a useful experiment and knowing that i will not need to stack tens of images to get results.
OH and halos on shinny objects a real pain.

I'm trying something very special come the weekend, a very nice lens indeed

Very much looking forward to it.. and my subsequent adventures :D

Took a gamble and took M5 II to beach with family with just the 45mm F1.8 prime... what a lens.

I could just hang back and get fantastic photos without getting in people faces

I can see the 12-40mm pro being last purchase, but I like the way primes make you really work your shots and feel involved in the shot

As a side note this lens is completely useless in a enclosed space :D, which I guess is obvious given the 90mm equiv in FF speak

Can anyone recommend a decent manual 25mm (or close) lens for use with m43 bodies?
I have an m42 screw adaptor already.
Quite a few on ebay but not sure which are still worth going after.
I know there is an Olympus one, but just want something cheap for now!
Plus it is fun doing it all manually :)

Yeah that's my last lens on my wish last and I'll probably grab one post xmas.

I thought it would be usable inside for head and shoulder shots though?

The 12-40mm lens is a gem and is my currently stay on lens on my camera. Comes in very handy when it rains too :)

I posted the below in the root of "Photography & Video" but no response :-(
another option is the Olympus OM-D E-M10 mark II
doesn't have 4k, but does do 1080p @ 60fps (higher bitrate than the G7 from what I have read)

IBIS which looks good from what I have seen, need to see how loud that is when recording video, I have a Panasonic FZ1000 and the OIS is great but can easily be heard on the recorded video.

Camera will be used for stills and video, would also be looking for a prime for portraits.

anyone here tried both camera's have any thought on the two?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thinking about purchasing the Panasonic G7 with either the 14-140mm or the 14-42 and 45-150mm.

Will be used for stills and video, but I have seen videos and reports of "jitter" when recording video..

some of the posts are well over 12 months old, so have Panasonic fixed the issue? why have no reviews of the Panasonic G camera's and lenses mentioned this jitter problem?

cheers

Topher

The IBIS is god like... it really is that good.

We have a E-M10 (1) and and E-M5 II .....both are great, but if you can stretch to the E-M5 II, it's a amazing body. (though much the same as E-M10 II which shares the 5 axis IBIS)

You can get them pretty cheap on grey import... I got mine from digital rev, but there are cheaper deals about. Chuck on a nice prime and you are good to go!

Shooting 4k... well that's something that Oly lacks, but I'm happy with the silky smooth video at 1080p with the IBIS making the video seem almost pro like

second on the godlike IBIS on the E-M5 II.

I have even taken one second stills without a tripod with great success with it! :O

Hi all,

I'm trying to find a Lightroom profile for the Olympus 7-14 f/2.8 lens to help with distortion at the edges. Wondered if anyone had stumbled across one or knew where to find one?

My google time is limited so some help from OcUKer's would be appreciated! :D

I had a quick look the other day and couldnt really see profiles... I'm sure the forum responses were hinting that the camera lens have information built which translates into the RAW files which then lightroom can utilize..

See here... http://photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/00d7hs

It looks like if you haven't already tried, to just use the light room "enable profile corrections" tick box that's in the develop module. The forum seems to confirm this, in that settings are pre-applied that the user can't change, therefore only tweak further on what the software has already performed.

This is interesting too, seems to show that the uncorrected m4/3 images are horrendous before correction, hence the need for automatic profile correction.

This reminds me to upload some images of the 40-150mm pro I borrowed before Christmas, what a beast of a lens!!

Well I have pre ordered the Panasonic 100-400mm leica dg lens ,which is expensive 1350 to be exact I know wait 6mnths and it will be closer to a thousand I really am excited by this lens 200-800mm 35 frame equivalent
and under a 1kg ,
I was interested in the Olympus 300mm f4 but the weight and price is quite large like the lens itself. I am sure the iq is better and with a larger aperture for lower light and faster ss but a zoom seems much more adaptable .
Also with my gx8 in 4k it will give me 1000mm fl nice

Thanks for the information, I'll take a read. I played around a little with the tick box within LR...may see about creating my own profile. I know its doable. :)

I sold my em10 to my house mate (i still have the 17,25,24 prime combo which he borrows). However, I used it the other day and realised that i really miss having it.
I'm now thinking of getting an EM1 as i've seen them new under £500. I quite fancy having the robust weather sealing and better grip.

In the back of my mind though, i'm thinking is it silly getting one that's about 3 years old...should i be getting the em5 mk2 or the em10 mk2?
