The unofficial Guild Wars 2 hype thread (with dynamic worlds)

I missed the ranger one. Woah it looks awesome!

I'm still crossing everything possible hoping for my mesmer to pop up :(

Meh. Some of it looked quite cool but it doesn't seem anything like the original GW. Every video is almost entirely solo'ing and just seems to have lost the team spirit of the original.
I know what you mean, but I don't think the skill vids really reflect typical gameplay.

They have gone over team play before, and it sounds brilliant. Now that it's open world they created a quest system where players naturally gravitate towards each other, and nobody sees anybody else as competition for resources or mobs.

Anyway, we'll get to see what people think of it near the end of the month at gamescom.

Heh, I've been playing GW solidly for the past 5 years - and haven't dabbled for more than a few minutes with PvP. I'm a carebear, born and bred :D

As to the mention of micro-transactions - no. GW has had what I'd call "mini transactions" for quite a while, but these have been for relatively minor things - character makeovers, extra character slots, extra storage - nothing you can live without.

The Guild Wars ethic has long been disparaged by more mainstream MMORPGers because you can't buy your way to success. Winning in GW is down purely to skill, rather than how long you've played or how much you've paid.

But showing some of the combo skills (such as firing a bow through a fire AoE attack lights the arrows) is hinting to possible combos of team play maybe.

I certainly cannot wait, and (hopefuly not regretfuly!) place all my trust in making this game a true successor of Gw.

graphics look astonishing. i seriously cant wait to play this game. i put lots of hours on the first game. ****ing awsome storyline and misisons. loved it better than WOW whichw as just a repetive borefest doing the same kind of missions over and over and over again

I proudly own all the Guild Wars games and love it to bits, I still need to finish some titles for my Monument to carry into GW2, doubt I'll go for the Immortal title, too much grind.

Can't wait for Guild Wars 2, the skill videos were astounding, much more excited about this than Swtor online, every new article I read gets me more pumped for this, cant wait.

Their Artists are amazing, they have won quite a few awards Arena net for it, well deserved too.

Does all look a bit gimmicky though if you compare it to GW. I mean if you wanted Fire Arrows there was 'Kindle Arrows', if that circle is an Ele skill, especially with it being set in place, i can't see it being that useful beyond screwing around

Has there actually been any news on what the titles will give?

Bit maybe it isn't limited to an AoE fire skill, could be firing through any fire. If you wanted fire arrows, they'd magicaly be fire, granted, but I prefer it this way.

The game is said to be soloable, but also places emphasis on playing with friends (such as the events)

I can understand what you're saying though, it's just my trust in ANet that's making me think otherwise! They know it was the team aspect that made the game thrive, and then the introduction of heroes ruined things by having people not rely on each other.

*edit*

and I second that the artists in GW are fantastic. I love the moving images they used for the trailer. I don't understand what it is about it, the music maybe?

Heroes were the single best thing they added to the game. Being able to set up your own squad of 3 heroes to synergise with your skills and possibly to team up with a 2nd player to do a full 8man team build. It was still a team game even if you were playing by yourself. If GW2 is focused on solo'ing, alone, with no other allies, AI or otherwise, then i think i'll give it a miss. I don't really care how pretty it looks...

Besides i remember how bad your average pub was...

If they did anything that screwed the game up it was the introduction of completely unbalanced PvE only skills tied to titles and completely ignoring the unbalanced solo builds like 55/600 monks and the SF sin. But then the latter was mostly neglect because they clearly stopped caring after EotN was released.

Thanks to this thread i cant wait for Guild Wars 2.
Been reading around and love the idea of this "dynamic events" which sound very interesting.
It also seems to be a lot more visual from other MMO's that i have seen and played which i love.

Also, I have never played a guild wars title, but im rather a PvE orientated player but PvP is nice once in a while, so what does Guild Wars 1 (and possibly GW2) do to cater for PvE?
I have seen no mention of PvE in some of the Guild Wars 2 stuff i have browsed.

I don't think it is limited to AoE fire skills. Hopefully you can still climb trees and stuff to increase your range. I used to play guild wars way back when and they talked about that when guild wars 2 was announced, but haven't seen any new news of it
