The ****-ups Thread!

I once reformatted a FAT32 hard drive into NTFS that I thought was empty. It turned out that I formatted the wrong drive and eradicated 10 years of personal data. Thankfully I run backups, so once that was restored, I only had the immediate 1-2 week's worth missing.

I once connected a floppy drive the wrong way round so that the green access LED is permanently lit.

A **** up in the wrong hole? We've all done that and apologised afterwards.

'tis easier to apologise than to ask permission. ;)

Forgetting to plug in optical drives is a common ****-up when system building for me. No idea why; did it on the first system I built years ago and did it on the rig I'm using right now. Slow learner!

Probably the worst of all, however, was not properly earthing myself many, many moons ago whilst fitting a new PSU to a new rig. No idea what happened, but as soon as I fired it up, with the machine on its side, side panel off, the PSU arced right in front of me and totally blew. Luckily all the other components were fine and the retailer replaced it with no quibble. Scared me ****less though!! :D

Wasn't thinking clearly and whilst sorting some paperwork etc I put a heavy catalogue on top of my laptop resulting in the lcd screen breaking. Although according to Google the screen on the model I have is well known for breaking easily.

Luckily I know a computer geek so have only had to pay for the screen. Phew!

Yep, they were Jewish.

I think its best to follow the rule suggested by Michael Heseltine which basically equates to, "Always be honest enough to admit that you've made mistakes but wise enough to never say what they were.".........;)

Letting my little brother use my Minecraft account. And then leaving the forums logged in so he could go and whine about being banned from the OcUK server.

When i got my B3 replacement motherboard, i had installed the heatsink and went to put the fans on only to realise i had put it on the worng way /fail (took me like 10-15 mins to clean and reseat lol)

Plus ontop of that i forgot to put my ram in first (NH-D14 overhangs ram slots) luckily i managed to get the ram under it.

Sealing the panel on shower earlier.. took my part used gun of silicone only to see I'd forgot to shove a screw down the cone, so it was dried out. Snipped the end off the cone and decided to try to squeeze out the silicone by brute force.

Result? A giant splash all over the bathroom wall and the mrs walking in and saying "what the hell have you been doing the last 10 minutes?"... ;)

Last night. Didn't follow up something properly, would have been greatly beneficial to my mental state of well being... Been worried all day now...

Second month of working in a lab I loaded the wrong buffer into the analyser, causing a bunch of tests to read as zero regardless of their actual value. Some guy came in to A&E with severe chest pain, but his troponin read as fine so they sent him home. Turns out he had a massive heart attack. It was caught in time and he was called back in, but I've been fastidious with checks ever since.
