I was in the same boat as you, and I am also using vaping to quit altogether, I was advised to get the kangertech evod kit, which is about the same price as the vision kit. I can't comment on the one you have posted, but the Evod has taken me from a smoker to a non-smoker in 4 and a half day's. I don't have any urge at all to start again on stinkies :). I got 3 x 10 ml bottles, so I could try different flavours. Whatever you choose, you wont regret it! from the limited research I have done, it is so much better than smoking and already I feel a lot better, been coughing up a load of crap from my lungs, and it has disgusted me.

Cheers man, quitting the stinkies within days sounds fantastic! :)
Been a smoker for 17 years and I just disgusted myself by getting through a 50g pack of Golden Virginia within 5 days :o This **** has to stop now...

Gonna stick with the Vision kit as it has larger battery capacity and it looks like I'll need it with the way I smoke :D

lol well see how you get on but I was in a similar position to you and the vision style stuff was OK for cutting down but I couldn't quit until I had a Kayfun lite +

My girlfriend has just started (today) vaping on a cheapo starter kit from the supermarket, as she really wants to kick her 20 or so a day habit.

Is there any basic advice I can give her that might help? I've read a fair bit of this thread and the main points I am picking up are; get a decent starter kit; keep at it!

Thats quite a lot of baccy dude! I was smoking half ounce, every 5-6 day's. I worked out that it was approx 40~46 a pack, that said I always used a roach, so not a lot of baccy going in. Based on your effort over 5 day's, would prob be about 170~180 over those 5 day's for you (34~36 a day). Not terrible though, when I consider that my old man used to smoke 60 a day and likewise my Mum :eek:. Lost my Mum to Lung cancer aged 53 and My Dad also at 53, though his death was an internal haemorrhage. :(

Personally, I had heard far too many mates say that the E-cig from supermarkets etc were not enough to quit smoking, I avoided them and got the EVOD, and that works great for me and don't feel like a stinkie at all, that said I did not smoke a lot a day, but had a lifelong addiction. My doctor always said it is not the amount you smoke, but the length of time you smoked. It is easily doable to quit completely, but you need a kit that gives you a good hit, and liquid with enough nicotine to match what you currently use. That is my opinion and others with more knowledge will give better advice ;)

Really sorry to hear that man. That's horrible :( I'm trying to avoid the same fate if it isn't too late already...
It is a bloody stupid amount of baccy! I do use filters though, for whatever good that is.

What you say scares me as my mum's 56 and she's been smoking longer than I have, though she does make quite skinny roll ups and probably smokes about half as much as me. Still, if I can get off the fags with vaping, then I can get her to do the same.

Pretty much that, decent kit and a good juice help. ;)

Interesting. What was the big difference between the two?

Night and day! CE5's etc are 'ok' but rebuildabuildables are where its at if you want good flavour and clouds. They're also cheaper in the long run too as you just need some wick (cotton wool) and wire (kanthal) rather than the expensive heads/coils/etc. :)

Never too late mate!! My Mum had other issues that contributed to her relative early death, so I don't contribute all of that to smoking, she had terrible Asthma, Bronchitis and led a pretty destructive lifestyle. I chose to take her death as a positive for me and give myself as much chance to enjoy seeing my kid's fulfill their lives. I used to smoke green, a big social drinker and smoke cigs. At that point in my life, I was an advocate for allowing myself a vice or two, Now I don't do any and with the help of this thread and OCUK, I have taken that last vice away, and will now focus all my attention on getting fit and enjoying my wife to be and my 3 glorious kid's....Life is about living, and I intend to do that :D

Try this place for all you need on Vaping: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/forum.php

Obviously I'd like to keep the cost down, but I don't mind paying for quality.
Considering what I already pay for baccy (though I do get 50g for a tenner 'under the counter'), the investment would pay for itself in no time if it got me to quit.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, chaps :)

I have recently started Vaping, and have wondered about a few things smoking related, so would like to ask those that Vape and have quit smoking some questions. I know there is a Vaping thread, though want to know peoples opinions in a way that allows us to view certain benefits to quitting smoking and Vaping.

1: How long did you smoke for, and when did you start?

I smoked for about 25 years, tried giving up multiple times but i was always back on the fags within 6 months

2: How many did you smoke a day?

Average of 20 a day.

3: Noticeable health benefits you have personally noticed, since vaping/smoking cessation?

I dont smell like an ashtray, far better lung capacity, increased appetite, more energetic, wallet is happier

4: How long you have been smoke free?
I have been vaping for 13 months now

5: Your concerns going fwd with Vaping (potential health risks and government legislation)

There may be some worries over the long term use of E-Liquid, as its too soon for any long term health studies.
However, they are still way healthier than traditional tobacco imo.
I am getting sick of all these so called experts and doctors vilifying Vaping, and yet no mention is made of the increased health and cost benefits it has comapred to inhaling tobacco.

Also so tips for the new Vapers.

Vaping is slightly different than smoking, but its still the easiest way to give up.
I personally still smoked at work during the day and vaped at home in the evenings for the first week to get used to it, then when the weekend came, i just stoppped the stinkies completely.

The Ego kits are good for beginners, but if like me, you have no intention of giving up vaping, then i would advise getting some better kit within a few weeks of starting.

Just grab a decent Kayfun lite clone, and a VV/VW device like a Vamo, VTR, Evic etc.... and you will see a huge difference.
Rebuildables are cost effective, can be customised to your own preferences and are much more flavoursome.

Try to find a juice that you like, this can be quite hard, but you will see many recommendations in this thread. (edit. also i kept away from tobacco e-liquids, as i dont want vaping to be associated with my old tobacco habit)

My all day gear is a Nemesis clone and Kayfun lite. To me they are a perfect combo. and they are virtually unbreakable (and cheap)

If you want to save even more money, get into Mechanical mods and DIY juice making, thats the route I'm following at the moment, then your costs are basically Batteries, and Juice ingredients.

Good advice there.

Have to admit that I do enjoy a nice toke and may be vaping for longer than I might ideally like, so the Kayfun looks to be the way to go as long it's not too much headache for a noob.

I know it's a bit lazy of me, but would anyone care to just link me to what I need on t'bay or elsewhere? Full Kayfun Lite + (modded or not) with whatever extra bits are necessary and I'll sort out the juice side of things.
Sorry, I just want to get this done asap :)

Kayfun lite clone http://www.m-vapes.co.uk/store/p16/Kayfun_Lite_plus_V2_clone_Rebuildable_atomizer.html
Nemisis clone http://www.m-vapes.co.uk/store/p5/Nemesis_mod_clone_Stainless_steel.html
I use 28awg (0.30mm) Kanthal to make a microcoil http://www.vape-atomizer-mesh.com/products/Kanthal-A1-Heat-Resistance-Wire.html
how to make a microcoil http://allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/32981/kayfun-3-microcoil-cotton-guide?page=1&scrollTo=583607
or search youtube.
I use cotton balls for the wick, (make sure they 100% pure and organic)

Then you will need a couple of 18650 batteries, i use these, last all day easily
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-GENUINE-PANASONIC-NCR-18650-A-LiIon-3100mAh-3-7V-RECHARGEABLE-BATTERIES-UK-NEW-/181245285425?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_Batteries_SM&hash=item2a330f9431
and a i4 charger http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NiteCore-i4-Intellicharge-Universal-Battery-Charger-RCR123A-26650-18650-AA-AAA-/291082492923?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Battery_Chargers&hash=item43c5de5bfb
Then u will need a multimeter, this is used to check for shorts in your coil.

Mech mods have no protection, if you have a short, the battery may vent or even spout flames lol.
These are used more by more expierenced vapers usually, or at lease vapers that are comfortable building coils.
You can get AW IMR 18650 batteries that have a safer chemistry that will only vent, but these are more expensive.

If you have a VV/VW device like a Vamo, then if you put your kayfun or atomiser on it and there is a short, it will tell you, these have a short circuit protection built in.
This imo may be a better journey for you, first, then when you get more expierenced recoiling, then get a mech mod.

OK so heres some tips from a vaper that started vaping in January and have not touched a stinky since.

1. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. LOTS AND LOTS.
2. You WILL struggle with the cigarette monster occasionally - and sometimes, vaping wont help. DONT GIVE UP GIVING UP.
3. Don't ponse about with cheap kit. If you have found that vaping helps, you may quickly get bored of leaking atomisers and dodgy batteries so get something half decent - On a budget? get a Protank and a Vision Spinner (or two preferably) - not so much on a budget? Get a Kayfun Lite+ and a Nemesis clone - not worried about budget? Get a Sohpia and a Cage and a GP Paps V1.5.
4. ConsultYou tube for help. Search todds reviews, AndrewWVids, and Rip Trippers
5. DRINK LOTS OF WATER.
6. You WILL get mouth ulcers, possibly get dry and cracking fingers and you WILL get horrid slimy sweat. This is all normal for smokers who quit - check the NHS website if you don't believe me it is not down to vaping - your blood vessels are unblocking, your arteries area clearing, your taste buds are rebuilding themselves and your skin is healing. Take lost of showers, and DRINK LOTS OF WATER.
7. But you will get dehydrated quickly. Propylene glycol is a dessicant and will suck moisture from you through your mucus membranes. DRINK LOTS OF WATER.
8. Buy your juice from Triphammer and Scopes Ejuice. More expensive but much better. You gets whats you pays for.
9. If all goes balls up and your atomiser breaks or something when you are out and about - fall back on the rubbish cig-a-likes from your local shop. Don't buy tobacco.
