Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

Just tried that mining driver myself (I just do ether when not gaming) and the results are good. So in standard guise it's not great, but that's because Vega throttles something at any temp above 70c, something weird happens and hashes drop quick, so you get about 34 on standard driver and 34.5 or maybe 35 if you're lucky.

With it -30% power and 960 men, -30% core, it manages to stay cool and gives a score of about 33 on the standard driver

Where it gets interesting though is when you use the new Blockchain driver at those settings...

37.3 mh at 240w total system draw!!! That's pretty good right? Well compared to standard.

The drop in gaming (3dmark) performance is about 4% in balanced mode with the Blockchain driver...

All I did was suggest they change their roll of honour to roll of shame? Is that so bad... element of truth in there, maybe that's what hurt them?

Well, you know that one person, you were that one.

Vega has its upsides and its downsides but going into the owners thread to call them all dishonourable isn't even slightly right or truthful.

Wanting to insult a group from a position of safety and then bragging about it, get over yourself.

How is what I said calling them dishonourable? There was shame in the purchase of an inferior product.

Shame
"a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behaviour."

Why do you feel the need to impress your opinion in that thread? Shocker as people spend their money on what they want.

I thought your post was rather unnecessary to be honest. Going into a members thread and posting that is never going to go down well.

Live and learn would be my advice, you'll become a better person in the long run.

It was a joke. I thought it was quite funny:) You'd think I'd insulted someone's mother... it's only a GPU... jeez.

Vega56 on the other hand might be worthwhile..

And please don't pretend that insulting a GPU from your company makes someone a bad person... that's rather pathetic. You don't know me at all.

It was a joke... they can spend their money however unwisely they deem fit!

You didn't insult the gpu, you went into the owners thread to insult the owners.

But you're right, no one knows you. So when you go up to a group on a forum with a straight up insult they just have to take it at face value, as in this guy we don't know just insulted us all.

So best case scenario you made a bad decision.

A joke is just that a joke. It has no reflection on the outcome of a persons soul or their moral standing especially when it was as tame as insulting a GPU purchase. If you're this insulted by a simple joke like the one I made I'd suggest staying away from critically acclaimed comedies like Rick and Morty. You'd lose your nut!

Jeez has political correctness gone mad now infiltrated the GPU scene?

Anyways back on topic. I chose the option "what has AMD been doing for the last two years" like most people.

I understand the tribal nature in products as i mainly come from a car background, always been in the pc area but only really saw the vicousness that we see now in cars, rice eater vs euro etc. For me i got a vega 64 and im gonna watercool the thing, voltage isnt something that concerns me, i remember running tripple 780s and everyone spawning insane multi gpu setups that guzzled voltage like no tommorow. Now yes vega has its faults, it is late to the party but in no way is it a bad card.

I dont care if it can do 300fps, i care that it can feed my monitors refresh rate and push all the bells and whisltes. But more i care that when its doing all that, that it does it smoothly. And this point scoring seems tobe fashioned at amd a lot, ryzen came out and it was boo, down with ryzen but look at it now. We can take a list of all the stuff that isnt enabled yet on vega and im with others when i say these things should be enabled right now and working. That features like primitive discarding, rapid packed math and hbcc should be ready for the release and amd fell down on that, but they will be enabled.

And lets be brutal, when your insulting someone for there purchase is just a way to justify your own purchases to make you feel better.

Keep on topic, who cares what some random troll posts.

Yeah trolls huh! Sheesh they're annoying. They just can't take a joke. Anyways...

Vega56 is the only decent option for people looking at the mid to lower high end. Probably more over the 1070. Especially if the card can compete in the £300-£350 range.

Anything above Vega56/1070 I'd go with 1080 and if you have money to burn the 1080Ti. I say money to burn because Nvidia would be well in their rights to up the 1080Ti because of the lack of competition from AMD. If you can call AMD competition in the high end at this stage.

Not sure if that insult was aimed at me, but I haven't made a purchase... I was waiting for Vega and it I was an utter let down. So now I'm waiting for Volta. I was really hoping AMD would bring it to Nvidia, but that hasn't happened. If anything Nvidia have shown us just how far ahead they are compared to AMD.

As for Ryzen? The Ryzen CPU was always seen as great. It's the one redeeming feature of AMD at the moment. Thankfully. Hopefully it will keep them in contention for the future come Navi and maybe give their r&d department much needed chash flown injection. And maybe allow them to hire people that know what they're doing in the GPU department.

I'm not insulted, I only heard about it when you bragged about it being removed, you didn't have to do that. At which point I gave you my opinion about what you'd done.

Doesn't matter if you think it's funny in your head because you didn't keep it there. Like I said, best case scenario it was a bad decision to post it.

Freedom of speech my friend. I can say what I like. At the end of the day I didn't insult anyone's mother or thier fathers or their daughters or their religion etc.

IT IS JUST A GPU. GET OVER IT.

And stay on topic man...

Nice review. Might end up picking one of these up to have a little play about with Vega if OcUK do a special launch price for it like they did for the 64. At around £350 it is a good buy if you have a Freesync monitor.

Completely given up on the Liquid Edition, however much I like the aesthetics, I cannot bring myself to pay the asking price which is nearly double the Vega 56.

Well it was demonstrated you can't say what you like here as your post was removed in that thread.

The last 2 parts of your post should be advice to yourself really as you're the one who keeps banging on about a GPU you won't own and are no longer interested in and you definitely didn't stay on topic in this thread or the owners thread did you?
