Yup and I hate how they write Merle to be so aggressively stupid in that he has absolutely no patience or planning to make things easier.

Yeah, what he did made absolutely no sense whatsoever.
When they brought him back in, he didn't seem *that* bad, almost showing some genuine concern to find his brother.
Even if he hadn't trusted them and did threaten maggie/glen, when he has the upper hand, he could have simply forced them to take him to see his brother.
Glen/Maggie should have just shot him in the leg at any rate.

I don't get the phone part is rick going nuts ? Is he talking to himself?
This is what I understood of it.
Very exciting end to the episode. This series has been the best yet.
He is hallucinating the phone ringing and the people on the other end so yes he is talking to himself 
, not remember when the girl said "Rick" despite him not telling them his name and then saying that it is "Amy" and that Jackie, Jim etc. are here as well and he was speaking to Lori, they are all dead.......

the phone part was described earlier as 'epic' -as it featured in the comic - wtf? I was hoping for a story arc ie another survivor group or something.
But it looks like it's been explained in one episode and it's just Rick having an understandable breakdown/mental snap of sorts.
Was that it or is more to come?

In the comic the telephone isn't connected to anything. So yes, he's hallucinating.
They might have taken down Merle, but odds are he shoots as well and one of them goes down.... remember they are not 'Quickdraw' Rick
Good episode again, starting to bubble along nicely.
They didn't have to draw anything, they had their guns pointed at him.
Should've introduced another way than going with the norm in making people think it's possible to unholster a weapon before someone else can get a shot off.
Of course though the easy explanation is they didn't ever really want to shoot him, so hesitated and got taken.
Because Merle would probably kill her (try to again) the second she showed her face.
They should've just had him meet with his brother/gain trust/find the prison and do whatever it is they're going to try to do like kill them all off and act creepy.
But no instead, lose trust 20 seconds right off the bat and probably torture maggie/glen to get the info of where the rest are/risk blondie finding out about the two new "members" of the town blah blah created needless conflict blah god damn it's so stupid.
I think that is it.
iirc in the comics, he disconnects the phone and keeps it with him at all times though.......
Would you rather have them sitting around a table having a nice cup of tea with some scones talking about the good old days?
Glenn didn't want to kill Merle, let alone shoot him as:
1. He isn't that sort of guy, not like Rick at all
2. He knows how much Daryl cared about him, so how do you think Daryl would react if Glenn told him (and remember that Glenn can't keep anything to himself i.e. the barn, Lori being pregnant in season 2) that he shot Merle? Plus if Daryl knew that he was still alive, he would go looking for him again.
I'm not watching the us eps so ain't reading to much ahead incase of spoilers and I can't see the uk thread.
Had to read in here about the fat zombie. Wondered what the hell he was doing.
Also noticed how he killed it by shooting it in the mouth....

Comic Spoiler in relation to the phone. probably won't be relevant for the show.
In the comic they played it out quite a bit better for me, it was him & carl alone, stranded in a neighbourhood house, and the phone range. he finds the phone disconnected, he then puts it in his bag, and sometimes through the comic he'd just pick it up and start talking to Lori, one time even sat on a car in the middle of a highway, it's just disturbing and both funny at the same time how messed up he was. The absurdity, and comical side to it always felt like a nice laugh in-between what is a quite traumatic comic.

Because ghosts are super-natural. Zombies are just virus ridden humans with everything shutdown except their CNS. Zombies are a bit like jellyfish.
It was much more dragged out in the comic, they were all alone and this was a chance for them to join another group, until the reveal obviously.
Don't know about you but i can't shoot a sword that far
