After a couple searches I've found that threads for headunit advice are fairly common on here, but it lacked an 'official' thread for such a thing.

I'll admit to being a bit of a car stereo fancier (all above board, officer). Owned lots in my time, and have recently owned 3 in one go. All high end, but relatively old. Recent units don't seem to attract me to the same extent.

Anyway, the 3 I've most recently owned.

Pioneer DEH-P77MP. Won't ever sell this one, lovely SQ for the money.

JVC EL Chameleon KD-LX555R. Recently sold and always wanted one.

JVC KD-SH909R. Got a friend currently borrowing this, similar style to the above Pioneer with it's brushed alloy face.

I fancy trying a Blaupunkt next now I've sold the chameleon. Never had one before and heard good things.

So feel free to post what you have, and maybe with a small word on what you like about it etc. It may help someone out. :)

I have an Alpine IDA-X305, with the extra Imprint unit for the more advanced DSP settings (crossover, parametric EQ, time alignment etc). It sounds pretty good through the standard Ford speakers; they're quite capable, especially now that I have a subwoofer in the boot handling the low frequencies, meaning they have more 'headroom'.

Old pic but the only one I've got for now:

In the Audi obviously I can't (and wouldn't want to) change. High MMI is awesome anyway.

The Leon Cupra R still has what I put in it from day 1, my Pioneer DEH-P55BT. Sound quality is fine for what it is (and the speakers it's driving), and at the time I wanted a HU that could illuminate in red (to match the car), could control an iPod, and had bluetooth for my phone.

I like your A6. It's a nice change to see all those modern functions and buttons, yet with a proper gear lever. And a rev counter that goes past 5.

Tell me about it, it's rare enough to find a petrol in this day and age, but to find a manual luxobarge too, madness!

I have to admit I'm definitely a fan of single control multifunction infotainment systems, I love how simple it is to use, the fact that everything is right there, properly integrated, it just works.

I have that in my MX5, it does the job and iirc it was nice and cheapish, alas, there are now much better versions out there from what I can tell that not only do the iPod bit better but also do the whole phone thing and auto volume etc etc.

Do you think you could make the first image a little bigger, I'm not quite scrolling round enough on my laptop.

Only if you could be more sarcastic for me? If you could manage that I'm convinced I can find a larger image :)

Image also fixed as it was a little on the large size.

I used to have an Alpine 9850ri, that wasn't bad and had direct iPod connection. Just use the standard one in the Clio now with an aux lead for iPod connection.

Nice and cheapish it wasn't really, no. It was about £250, and the Imprint unit was a further £90 odd. The lacking functionality that the Imprint unit is required for was a slight oversight when I bought it but hey ho. It works well. :)

Agreed. Looks very ergonomic and a nice place to be. Does it have proper iPod integration?

It does indeed, nice little tray for it in the glovebox. I could also swap out the iPod dock connector for a micro USB, Mini USB, Bluetooth A2DP dongle, or a 3.5mm jack.

With the iPod you get full menu control through the onboard display, and navigating it is muchlike an iPod itself seeing as they are both wheel based navigation!
