The "What's your headunit?" thread

It does indeed, nice little tray for it in the glovebox. I could also swap out the iPod dock connector for a micro USB, Mini USB, Bluetooth A2DP dongle, or a 3.5mm jack.

With the iPod you get full menu control through the onboard display, and navigating it is muchlike an iPod itself seeing as they are both wheel based navigation!

Excellent. Something to bear in mind when I change cars in the future then I guess, as it would seem the days are gone of having to add Intravee units and whatnot to the otherwise-integrated infotainment systems.

The interface is what I love about my head unit, it's like actually using an iPod. The menu layout is damn near the same and it's easy to use. Especially with the amount of music I have. It's an important thing for me to have in my car, that's why I didn't really want an ST220 with nav, as you can't do anything in the way of iPod integration aside from using the crappy 3.5mm aux jack.

Oh and what does the 'setup' button on your climate control panel do? :p

Brings up the climate control setup pages on the main display, allowing you to adjust the temperature of the centre vent (muchlike that odd knurled wheel on BMWs), turn on or off auto recirc, combine the zones into one, and change imperial to metric.

It also brings up the climate info onto the display if you adjust the temperature or want to manually change the fan speed/direction. I'll add a video to this thread later if you like.

Neat. It really is all integrated! I'd hate for it to ever go wrong, though..!

Pics / a vid of the iPod interface would be appreciated. :)

Nice and cheapish it wasn't really, no. It was about £250, and the Imprint unit was a further £90 odd. The lacking functionality that the Imprint unit is required for was a slight oversight when I bought it but hey ho. It works well. :)

I think I paid about £200 fitted. I don't see how you can say its nice to use! Scrolling through 100 artists is god awful I found, I just hit the center button twice and random all music or if I want to listen to a podcast I take it out, find it on the phone, play it, then plug it back in.

Ahh you obviously haven't found the 'press the jog dial in while scrolling in order to skip through the alphabet' feature then. ;)

In the Subaru: Pioneer DEH-P77MP

Had these for donkeys years, back when I had my 19. First one got nicked by the recovery company when the car was written off (although I still had the faceplate), bought another to replace it which I still have today along with a spare faceplate :)

In the 3 series: Just the BMW Professional single CD thing, although actually sounds ok. Not sure if it's an upgrade or not but it's got 8 speakers I think with 2 under the seats.

The Leon Cupra R still has what I put in it from day 1, my Pioneer DEH-P55BT. Sound quality is fine for what it is (and the speakers it's driving), and at the time I wanted a HU that could illuminate in red (to match the car), could control an iPod, and had bluetooth for my phone.

Snap. Had it in the 306 (illuminated in amber) and now in the Octavia in a lovely shade of green.

Will swap it back out for the OEM headunit at some point as I don't take phone calls on the move any more and miss the speed variable volume of the original.

A crappy Sendai one from Halfords. The display is borked 90% of the time and most of the buttons actually operate the function on the button next to them half the time.

Needless to say I'm looking for a replacement with Bluetooth and an included mic and ideally an SD card reader too.

In an ideal world I'd get a 2 din one with tomtom sat nav built in as well as the radio/cd stuff. Don't have that kind of money though sadly.

That's fantastic. I want it! I didn't realise there was quite so much integration with the car. Even the glovebox is sci-fi!

You know a lot of Chris' and Daves :)

It does integrate with a lot of things, the voice command (which I don't have the full version, only phone control) is superb, but it's too expensive for me to bother retrofitting (as some parts are UID locked to the car, so buying used doesn't really work as I'd have to take it to a dealer to mess around with anyway). Next on my list is to retrofit the front parking sensors (got all the parts), and maybe a reversing camera to replace the graphical distance display.

Nah, that's my fault for changing phones so often and syncing their phonebooks to the car, I must have everyone at least 4 times :(
