The "What's your headunit?" thread

Was it hard to install that headunit in the 350Z? Did you keep the steering wheel functionality?
Dunno, I paid cleverer people to do it for me :)

Yup, volume control works, scanning works, the call buttons are used to change input and do not initiate a phone call though.

I've still got my Pioneer Avic-X1R-BT navigation unit with the iPod interface, this is my second AVIC and both have been fantastic, recently upgraded to the 2010 maps.

Keep thinking about upgrading to the latest double-din pioneer nav, but in truth they have very few extra features so it's next to pointless.

Am I the only person who thinks all these ICE units are designed by in large for the LHD cars?

I like ICE / Satnav to all be simple, don't get me wrong the Audi above looks extremely powerful, but I think I'd crash if I had that many buttons / menus to play with.

without the phone holder (that is not my car) but similar...

I really like the look of that MVH-8300-BT!

Tempted to replace my JVC HU with that.

Alpine W502R.

Need to do some modding to get it to sit in properly as that's not the OEM location. Waiting on some parts before I start though.

service position for wipers though :/

Didn't see this edit.

The service position is needed, as the wiper arms "resting" position is under the bonnet, so you can't lift them.

The autoglass man didn't know this however so first off scraped the tailing edge of the bonnet, and then proceeded to pull the wipers out of the way of the bonnet

Will sort a Pic later left the fascia at home.

Pioneer DEH-8300-SD need to run the IPod cable through the dash into the glovebox as it get in my way sitting in the center console. Also swapped the green illumination on the heater controls for blue so they matched.

VW RNS-510 (touchscreen nav, dvd player, hdd & sd card, with optional bluetooth, rear parking camera and tv in the future)

bullit

I had that unit in my first car.. it got robbed :( Best headunit I've ever had!

Total noob question here. How much does the head unit itself affect the sound quality, I always thought the quality of your speakers would have the most bearing on SQ.

The Cabasse thing Renault stuck in it at the factory.

It's not that bad, but I want something better and iPod/Bluetooth. Problem is I haven't yet seen an aftermarket Headunit fitted to a 182 (or Mk2 Ph2 Clio in general) that I think fits in ok. They all look, well, aftermarket.

I really wanted that Pioneer in OP, and the other Pioneer of a similar two dial design that was in black, but both had either none for sale, or were really expensive.

I've always gone Pioneer but when I couldn't think of anything for christmas I decided to ask for this Kenwood HU:
Do not hotlink images!

24bit DAC encoder, 3 4v preouts, ipod control / bluetooth audio, and I can change the lighting colours to match the rest of the interior (Everything is green).

My old Pioneer was great but it needed ipod control / bluetooth audio, I just hope that the Kenwood can live up to my expectations based on the specs of it.

I can't remember what the model of my old Pioneer one is, so here it is in a video I shot last year

You'd have thought. But ditching the standard SEAT Aura headunit in the Leon and replacing it with the Pioneer made the sound quality soooooo much better, more defined mid-range and far better treble.

I was going to replace the speakers too, but once I'd heard the new HU, I changed my mind.

I guess it's differences with the internal amps.

Just got the standard unit in the XFR with the Bowers & Wilkins Upgrade and the DVB TV. Comes with 6 CD changer, DAB, USB and iPod connections with the B&W Speakers adding 440w 13.1 setup. The only factory fit system I've heard in a car that sounded better was the 1200w system in the XJ and the facelift XF.
