***The Wine Thread***

lol No need to apologise at all. I suppose you could call it a hobby, I just see it as recreational ha and if I labeled it, the wife would get the hump I'm sure.

There are so many more knowledgable people on the subject on here, who even work in that industry. I'm little more than a novice, really, I just have got to know what I like from trying things out, or looking about online. Red is something I'm slowly getting a bit better on, but I'd love to do my Sommelier course, just as a bucket list personal thing to be able to say, and improve my knowledge. But as of now, it's pretty much just drinking and seeing what I like, and then trying to find more like that, or listening to recommendations etc.

With Champagne it's the same, but it's a much more narrow field than the whole red wine space. I can tell you more about it, and what I like, flavour profiles etc. as it's just a smaller area.

Any reviews on the montes cab sauv?

Nice, easy drink. Not as big and bold as it's big brother, much thinner while still packing a nice amount of flavour in. Blackberries and rubber to the taste, almost burnt toast to the nose and subtle short finish. Not too acidic, no harsh tannin finish as as such not too dry, either. I would give it a 3.8/5, which I think is a solid score, especially for the price range.

I have the Merlot I haven't tried yet and another bottle of "special Cab" I think it's called, I might have one over the weekend, but have been easing off midweek.

Argentinian Malbecs are much nicer than the French counterparts. I find a lot of the Bordeaux derivatives just too dry and a bit meh in terms of depth of any flavour, but having just seen that the grape variety requires more sun than the cab/ merlot to mature, this is probably why it excels in the new world regions.

I need a new rack...

Still have like 9 more to come I think? I have a Blu in the decanter at the moment!

^^ Nice

We had an American friend over last night and we both love the same sorts of wine. Our night's lineup...

The Blu is a fantastic buy. The price point is stunning, and highly recommend it. I will have to buy some more as I only bought 6 and have now drunk 2 of them lol
The Nativ, as always, winner. The Purple needed a bit more opening up, but was still super. You'll have a treat in a couple of years with that one.
Then the abstract is full and boozy, treacly and delicious. A good night for wine.

I got mine from this place:

https://www.silkes-weinkeller.de/index.php?cl=details&anid=IT11349

That's a link to the Blu I got from them too.
There is a "damaged" one too, which is what I got (the labels are crinkled?) but I couldn't give a hoot: https://www.silkes-weinkeller.de/index.php?cl=details&anid=48dab4e9c1897db272cf136d92b911cf - not for an extra 2EUR off a bottle.
That's well worth a try if you're ordering. It's not as heavy and rich as the other Nativ (here: https://www.silkes-weinkeller.de/index.php?cl=details&anid=IT11350) but it's a stunner of a bottle in my opinion.

Delivery is good and quick from these guys too.

I use a decanter.

Had this the other night. Stunning bottle but needs time to breathe. In fact, a lot of the wine I have benefits from some time to open up. Bordeauxs are the worst for it, I find. I had a Margaux which I drank the next day, which was sat all night in the decanter which was simply amazing. Way better than the day before.
Really depends on what it is though. Some wine I find benefits from breathing, but then after a point it'll go downhill. Others, like Bordeauxs take a lot longer to do so.

I ordered some more wines. See if they come OK. Companies I've not used before.

Also, I am still waiting for 2 bottle of Newton - the Puzzle from one place but they've gone all quiet! Annoying, as it's supposed to be the nuts

I might get some Champagne in the fridge for tonight. We've not been drinking in the week and I fancy a drop tonight. We had a BBQ and a mate bought over a 2000 bottle of Pol Roger Winston Churchill, so tempted by that.

Sounds like a nice Grenache that!

I had a bottle of 689 last night, it's a great number, followed by a Blu. They're just utterly fantastic bottles. We had friends pop over after dinner, who will drink wine but won't spend more than 5-6EUR for a bottle. It was probably a bit wasted on them, and I'm sure they would think it's stupid paying more for wine, but you get all sorts of folk.
They're only 15-20EUR bottles, so not like the 50-70 range in any way.

Edit: https://www.vivino.com/wineries/nativ/wines/aglianico-irpinia-blu-onice-9999 that's the Blu - cracking like the Nativ, but not quite as punch you in the face heavy, it's a little lighter but BAGS of complexity, red fruits and soft finish.

The 689 is: https://www.vivino.com/wineries/winery-689/wines/six-eight-nine-napa-valley-red-9999 similar to the blu in it's full bodied nature. I'd say softer than the Blu, but thicker.

Would rate / recommend both on that price point.
