The Wire appreciation thread

Yeah seriously I had that spoiled to me before I watched it and it kind of ruined the impact of the scene as I was pretty much waiting for it.

The color code is "1c5780", put it instead of "BLUE".

As in: The kid that kills Omar is Kernard, who, if you remember the scene from ages back when Omar is robbing a stash house and gets in a massive shoot out and accidentally kills one of the women with him, when Bunk checks the scene later, Kernard is there playing with his friends as Omar. THERE WAS A SPOILER BEFORE HERE WATCH OUT.

I loved the wire, it got amazing from the second season onwards. Do you guys like the shield? I need to watch something new, I have nothing to watch now :( Homocide, the precursor to the wire was pretty boring due to the whole show being extremely aged.

The end. :(

That's 60 odd hours of my life that I can never repeat, what a thoroughly genuine, deep, entirely non-sensationalist piece of real-life drama.
The character development is unmatched, people's fates and motives are never straight forward, it's as heart warming as it is heart wrenching, at no point in the whole tale have I ever felt like something was far-fetched or contrived and it's certainly never once pulled a punch.

I'm gutted it's done with, not just because the story was so engrossing, but also because I've got to know these characters so well over the last couple of months, that not seeing how their lives continue to pan out feels like a genuine loss.

I'm now going to track back on the works of David Simon and Edward Burns, starting with this, which arrived on my doorstep yesterday from Waterstones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homicide:_A_Year_on_the_Killing_Streets

But before I start reading, I'm going to enjoy these backstory clips I found today that aren't in the program itself:

Frankly, finding them made my day today, it's not *quite* over for me yet!! :)

All those vids aren't working. :(

I've been rewatching the whole thing, and am just getting to the end of Season Three. Love seeing the massive story arcs of season one finally wrapping up.

aint seen the shield but do wanna check it out, but from what i've heard its the poor mans wire;)

Haha I know this was posted months ago but I cannot begin to explain how wrong this is, The Shield is the my favourite TV show ever, I find the story lines great and love the corruptness of it all. It is just packed with action from start to finish. I am gutted that it is half a season away from finishing but I am sure I will come to watch them all again in the not too distant future.

The Wire is another fantastic show, probably a close second for me. I am about to start watching the fourth season tonight after having a couple of months break since the third. :D

Ive just got hold of the first season of the shield as i heard it was similar to the wire. Its pretty good, not a patch on the wire though.

I just watched the entire first season last night :D.

I've just started watching this, about halfway through the first season, I am enjoying it with Snoop Dogg, I mean Omar as my favourite character.

I am finding it is starting to get a bit American Cheese for me, though to be fair it's been produced by HBO so what I got to expect.

I see the full series 1-5 boxset is coming out on 8th of December for those curious, or those die-hard fans, for around £90.

Definitely worth asking Santa for this one :)

Epic bump.

In case you haven't seen the trailers - this is coming soon on BBC2!

Make sure you watch it if you haven't so far - it truly is a great programme. A far different league to Heroes / Lost etc. I'll admit I didn't watch it week-by-week, I often watched 3 episodes back to back, so I don't know if watching one week at a time will affect the experience.

Either way, series record and watch it!

I have been enjoying the re runs on FX, last week McNaulty and Bunk went to re visit a murder scene and the whole dialogue between them was just one four letter word over and over again, it just fitted so well with what they were doing.

Thats the best scene in the series, the different ways you use a single word, the meaning and the tone, they did that scene absolutely perfectly right there.

The only thing is I really started to like McNaulty as a actor in this series and was praying to god he did something good afterwards, then I saw the second Punisher film :( what a tit for taking that role.

Its a good show but frankly I was bored with it by the final series. THe first 3 were great, some truly fantastic tv there.

I've not watched it yet, but I've heard some many good things about it, even told peeps to watch it. I'm on sick for 4 weeks will get it and start watching it.

A certain DVD e-tailor has done well out of me the last few days ;)

I was looking to buy a Blu-ray DVD player, OcUK has none ?

I'm trying to get into this series. Watched about 4 episodes and it just hasn't done it for me yet... I'll give it one or two more...
