The Wire

I've just finished Season 1 of The Wire - enjoyed it but didn't really get hooked until episode 10. At that point I realised how it good it had been at building up the story. Now need to get straight into Season 2.

I've had the first season here for yonks, but EVERY TIME I decide to try and watch it, I'm drunk.

Queue farting around on the internet (and OCUK) while it's playing. I think I've watched 4 episodes so far (the first one about 3 times), but I STILL couldn't tell you what the hell is going on.

I really need to sit down sober one of these days and watch it through.

You'll never do it justice that way!

Honestly, that's like trying to go to the Louvre while battered.

For anyone who doesn't own it yet, you can get The Complete Series on offer at £44.99 for somewhere. I ordered mine last Friday and it arrived a couple of days ago.

I doubt it'd be considered a competitor as its on the website of a music/DVD/video game retail outlet with many stores throughout the country. Don't want to mention them just in case :/

I like the way it has tied the storyline back in with the drug trade in Barksdale
All the story lines over all five series tie together on lots of different levels, and it works because Baltimore isn't that big a city. Transpose the series to somewhere bigger with a similar variety of crime, trade and corruption, like New York say and it wouldn't work.

Thinking about it one of the few US cities that could offer a similar setting is New Orleans, the subject of David Simon's Treme series, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle that.

Just finished season 5 (the final season) and have got to say this is a breathtaking television series.

I actually really enjoyed season 5.

In order of personal enjoyment 1,5,3,2,4.

Now to start with Arrested Development :)

I enjoyed the Wire eventually, thought it was slow going at times, but a good show nonetheless. However, for me, where the Wire was good, The sopranos was awesome. Much the better show.

Chance of The Sopranos coming out on blu-ray? I've never seen it

Arrested Development, then Breaking Bad & then The Sopranos. Gah, have Entourage to watch as well

About two finish season 2 of this. Only started watching it on Monday, needless to say i'm hooked.

Very good series, right up there with Sopranos and West Wing.

Omar is definitely my favourite character so far!

I started watching The Wire last week and am on episode 7 of series 1.

Am very much enjoying it, every night I am filling my time with at least one episode. But it took me until episode 4 to get used to the 4:3 aspect ratio in which it was shot.. it is very hard to swallow, it really is. This was shot in 2002 not 1992! Massive fail on the producers behalf not to have this shot on 16:9 cameras.

I think it's down to the way it's compressed in the editing software and not the cameras it's shot on. Although I might be wrong :)

The projects seems a little rougher than Gravesend :)

I live on the hill in Chatham, at to be honest, I cross few two streets to Luton "low rises" and it's not far off. Yes, black to white ratio is somewhat different and their "Omar" is probably fat, slow, bald wideneck in England away t-shirt, but the vibe is almost identical. Up until recently there even was even homage sofa in the middle of one of the yards. :D

I hadn't noticed the aspect ratio. I don't think it detracts from the awesomeness of the show.

If you haven't noticed the aspect ratio then there is something wrong with your eyes, unless of course you aren't using a widescreen monitor or widescreen TV to watch it.

It really doesn't make the show any less great but I find it strange why it was shot in the format it was.

Episode 3 Series 1. I've had this on DVD for ages but just started watching it as part of TV on Demand on Virgin. Loved the Sopranos and found the first few episodes of this to be good.

It took a while but last night I finished watching all of The Wire.

I feel so connected to the characters that I am sad that it has ended. An hour per episode is a good length of time.. it was slow at times but the character building was spot on all through out. There were many twists and turns; some of which very predictable others not.

It is just a great series. Nothing like I have seen before.

I want more :(
