The Witcher 2 - Thread

Okay so the game won't launch for me. I bought the other day through Steam, downloaded it, I launched it and it went through all the setup, patched and everything, all went well. However whenever I press "Launch game" the Witcher head thing comes up, and then disappears and it goes straight back to the launch game window. It is an endless loop.

I've tried reinstalling but that doesn't work either, if anybody has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

hmmm yea I have had this issue as well.

The game works with out the cd, but for you try to start the game with the disk in the drive....

Aslo dont run the launcher to start the game....

The problem your having I belive is a remnant of the time when the game used drm.

Aslo restart pc.

I get this too, log out of steam then re-launch steam, but run as administrator.

Should get you playing.

What are peoples thoughts/tips on Dark Mode? I just tried it at that difficulty in the new arena mode and got killed in two hits. Well hard!

I completed the main game back in July (Roches path) and had the difficulty set to normal. I found the game was stupidly annoying near the beggining but by the time I reached mid way through act two it was pretty easy and act three was a stupidly easy.

With that in mind do you guys think I should give Dark Mode a go in the main game? O rperhaps do another run through on normal/hard. I want to go back through it for Iroveths path.

I completed the game on normal doing Roaches path.

I plan just to reload to the quest where you choose a patch and continue from there.

Well im giving witcher 2 another try after only getting to act 1, i started a new game with the new 2.0 patch and playing with the xbox360 controller. Im really enjoying the game now, it feels so much better to control and also i can play this game at max settings and it runs very smooth.
Im only on act 1 (just a little further than my first attempt at this game) and im really enjoying the story.
Its gonna be an all day session tomorrow and i cant wait to see what happens next.
The last rpg that got me this excited was Dragon Age 1 and Awakening, they involved all day sessions:D

I cant believe Im saying this but this game is a lot more fun and relaxing to play with the Xbox controller. I thought Id give it a go, and its a nice smooth experience :)

It is funny, I finished the game twice, both times with x360pad, second time on hard even.
Had no problems and really liked it.

Now I started third playthrough, and to change things up a bit I went with mouse and keyboard. I have to say, it is not as comfortable, but I like combat even more with mouse and keyboard.

I've just ordered a 360 controller for this.

You won't regret it. X360 controller is awesome, not just for this game, but for many others. Mafia 2 is much more enjoyable with it, especially for driving. So is Two Worlds 2. Batman. SHIFT2. Bastion.Dead Space 2. Just Cause 2. DIRT 3.

I could go on ;)

The 360 controller is a must-have for any serious PC gamer. It really does work fantastically well with a lot of PC games, and it's great to see developers taking note of this.

I would daresay there's a healthy number of FPS games that work with the 360 controller really well. The original Crysis came out in 2007 and it supported the controller straight out of the box, complete with vibration function. With a lot of people using HDTVs as screens, it's more and more common to use the PC on the sofa or in the living room. The controller is perfect.

I bought my Xbox 360 controller for FF14, and have used it for so many PC games now, including The Witcher 2. A must have for any PC gamer.
