The Witcher 2 - Thread

I bought this a long time ago from GOG, because I really enjoyed the first game, but I've only just got around to playing it.

I've just reached Flotsam and met up with Dandelion and Zoltan. Graphically it's very nice, the combat's fine(ish) and it's presented very well.

BUT>>> So far it has been really really linear. Anoyingly so. In the first game they pretty much gave you a bunch of quests, and then gave you the freedom to roam about and explore; letting you complete storylines/missions as you felt like it.

Does this get any better? Right now I just feel like I'm being led from one cut scene to the next, with the odd bit of combat thrown in to keep me interested. Where's the roleplaying?

Think it's important to remember you are playing Gerald, making decisions on his story. There are important choices to make later on. In fact you will have a big decision to make at the end of flotsam, which will result in you not being able to experience a whole area of the game without a 2nd play through.

Although I agree it is a tad more linear compared to Witcher 1 and I think CD Project Red have realised this as the Witcher 3 is going completely open world.

P.S. I've never played any of these games, or any PC RPG's.

I'm hoping it's something along the lines of Final Fantasy? Or I'm completely mistaken?

Apologies if this has already been asked, but is it important to play the first game in terms of the story?

Thanks.

Based on what I've played of the second one I'd say that it isn't essential to have played the first game, but it helps.

Witcher 2 certainly doesn't waste time on exposition for the Characters returning from the first game (though if you read through all the journal notes it adds in a bit of the backstory).

Not really but it's a very good game in it's own right so I would if you can pick it up cheap.

Thanks for the fast reply, I already happen to have the game :D As a family member got it for a pound or so and thought I may like it. :)

Can I ask if the gore is quite bad or acceptable? As it looks a darker game than I usually play. (I'm a carebear! :p)

I'll Google to try and find a story summery for the 1th game, cheers :D

Don't watch the extended intro video then :P

Play it don't worry about gore it's not that bad really & stick with it because the first area/quest line is a bit of a drag but it picks up after the first hour or so.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'll get and give it a go.

I'm not all that bothered by gore as such, I just don't like excessive gore in games / films. As some films recently (in my opinion) have gone too far trying to make things "look real", as I doubt blood / guts squirt out quite so dramatically in real life.

By same genre I'm meaning a story based RPG, swords / magic etc?

It is a fantasy RPG yes however it is a western style RPG, the Final Fantasy series of games are JRPG's, the two genres share very little in common beyond fantasy settings.

I love both FF and The Witcher 1/2, however I enjoy them for completely different reasons.

Oh, never realised there was such as thing as western style RPG's / JRPG's.

Would Zelda be considered a western style RPG? As that's quite a lot different to FF / other RPG's I've played.

Sorry for the newbie/slightly off topic questions.

Bought this a few weeks ago but I'm not sure it's going to be to my liking.

I've played the tutorial but everything seems so clunky.

Seeing as I lack a bit of patience, what are the chances of me liking this? :)
