The Witcher 2 - Thread

The original Witcher is up on gog.com for a paltry $4.99 which is approximately 3 of your pounds, it is completely DRM free and can be downloaded as often as you would like.

You should also be able to pay for The Witcher 2 today and start pre-loading it to get ready for the official release.
 
Really really looking forward to this since i loved the first one just a shame i can't play it due to you know not having a pc anymore :) ha ha

Seriously thinking of entering back into the fold for this...
 
Where are you guys pre-ordering from (or where do you think is best)?

So far, GOG seems to be the cheapest at £26.99 with plenty of bonus content (e.g. soundtrack, art, etc.).

Steam is £29.99 with extras but not as many as the GOG version. However, it is nice to have things linked into Steam... argh I'm torn.
 
I opted for a £24 pre-order from the place selling with the Finisher DLC. Seemed the best of the release-day DLC.
 
The Witcher 2 can be had for close to £21 from online retailers, I would prefer to support to GOG directly and buy from them, though.

The Witcher 1+2 works out at £30 if you buy from GOG.com plus you get a free old school cRPG and loads of digital content from Collector's Edition of the Witcher 2.

If you care for the best price around:

Retail - the Hut - £21.85 with BHB2 code.

The Collector’s Edition is only available through preorders from online retailers, but if you order from any of the retailers below, you get a special DLC exclusive to that retailer. The PC release of The Witcher 2 is May 17th, so you only have 10 days to preorder!

Anyone pre-ordering either edition of the CD Projekt-developed RPG sequel will also get another batch of free DLC, depending on which retailer you pick.

GameStop and thehut.com offer the Finisher Pack, containing additional finishing move animations and additional advanced fighting techniques.

GAME has Mysterious Merchant, which allows you to purchase unique items from a “shady tradesperson”.

HMV boasts the Ultimate Alchemy Suit, offering unique items, increases the loot output and extends the duration of potions.

Amazon offers the Ultimate Swordsman Suit which contains a set of unique items, boosts sword fighting stats and increases the chance for triggering rare effects in combat.

BTW, the guy has an unjustified rant at the Witcher 2's prices but claims them to be much higher than they really are... I agree that DLC content on day 1 is a joke, though.

Firstly, thanks for that summary - that's great and really helpful.

Secondly, it's not DLC, it's just a preorder bonus ;) Although having said that I do think it's a bit poo that you have to pick & choose before even trying the game and knowing what you want. Finisher for me I reckon, extra animations are always good.

Yeah, you're right, I thought it was going to be downloadable content as well as the pre-order stuff.

In that case the bonus packs are mostly worthless, sure as hell most of the stuff will be modded in game anyway.

I'm happy for CD Projekt if they can get a few more sales with help of the pre-order bonuses.

Nope, it's just the retail version of the game that gets them.
 
To be honest, since Dragon Age 2, I really want to avoid item DLC (we have to call it that, even though it's not because that's what the retailers call it).

DA2 had a load of items which could be gained through preordering, completing games, codes, the demo & various other things. If you got even half of this stuff it meant that any item you found for the first 70% of the game was irrelevant, they were just better. And I actually enjoyed DA2, except for the loot, which was so disappointing because for most of the game it was just for selling.

So anything that isn't items is good, although like you say it'll be modded in in anycase.

I've not really paid any attention to the Witcher 2 release up until now, but I'm going to install the first one tonight I reckon to get in the mood :)
 
Still can't decide whether to get this. I have it preordered but I never finished the first. Got about 20 odd hours in and just got a little bored and some things about it really started to annoy me. However, I do love the books. From what I've seen of the second it looks much more interesting so I may just take the plunge.

Is it important to know the story of the first? Can I just read the wiki plot and get by?
 
I really would like the Collectors edition, just minus the ridiculous bust of gerald, and for £49.

Current price and that damn awful bust = :(

Only 7 days away for Witcher 2's release, and also my Bday!
