The Witcher 2 - Thread

The config utility won't let you bind many keys, including the arrow keys!

It makes no sense, and is incredibly annoying.

Really spoiled my first impression of the game.

There is hardly anything of substance to recommend this train wreck to a discerning connoisseur of RPGs. Every element of its design can be described as 'embarassingly awkward.' Animation, art direction, dialogue, writing, combat. It's a list of sad mediocrities as long as your arm. Look to the masters at BioWare with their latest RPG epic, Dragon Age 2, for inspiration in your future games

I Lol'd hard at that when I read it on Meta

I'm so sad that I spotted the square barcode thing on the bottom on the rear flap, so I scanned it with my phone to try it out.

It just bought up a page of Witcher 2 videos obviously. I wish more stuff could use those barcodes.

Why would you use arrow keys? Left handed?

Anyhow - well annoyed now. Was playing the witcher last night and got stuck in act two where I was about to give Raymond 200 orenes to start the autopsy quest. He mentioned wanting to be paid in the initial cut scene conversation, but then I got no option to actually pay him :( Seems like a common bug for people who discover his body at the cemetery.

In the end got through it by downloading someone else's save from that very same moment and editing their gear/character skills to be the same as mine but now I'm playing at a lower difficulty setting where I was playing it on hard and am not sure how that person resolved the order//elven conflicts...If only there was a way to at leat bump the difficulty setting back up I'd be happy.

Yep, and it's not just the arrow keys either, many other keys aren't bindable.

In any case, it's more than just an annoyance to have non-rebindable functions/keys - ask Gareth and his experiences with Dead Space 2.

As he found out inflexible control schemes can cause a lot of problems for people with disabilities too, not just left handers.

Still waiting for the English voiceovers and subtitles to download :(

You don't need them.

I'm finding this game incredibly hard on just normal difficulty, all the troops keep surrounding me and killing me. Is there a way to avoid this as it's incredibly frustrating having to continually see the you are dead screen and repeat the same cutscenes.

I'm sure they'll patch it in if people raise this issue on their boards.

read in another thread that this should do it:

I added Invert=1 to the [MouseInput] section, inverted my mouse fine for me. Mind the Capital I in Invert.

[MouseInput]
SensitivityX=0.5
SensitivityY=0.5
Smoothness=1
Invert=1

OR
changing MouseSensitivityY to a negative value

[MouseInput]
KeyboardCooldownSpeed=0.1
MouseDampX=7000
MouseDampY=7000
MouseSensitivityX=0.284615
MouseSensitivityY=0.177885
MouseSmoothness=1
SensitivityX=0.5
SensitivityY=0.5
Smoothness=1
UseMouseDamp=false

Someone test?

Thanks guys.. the Invert=1 didn't work for me but the other option did :

[MouseInput]
KeyboardCooldownSpeed=0.1
MouseDampX=7000
MouseDampY=7000
MouseSensitivityX=0.307692
MouseSensitivityY=-0.192308
MouseSmoothness=1
SensitivityX=0.5
SensitivityY=0.5
Smoothness=1
UseMouseDamp=false

Now I can play it :)
