The Witcher 3 Benchmarks

Can't help you on the strobe effect, can't say I've seen that. But I'd go 4K with a few settings turned down all day long if you must keep a solid 60fps, personally I think the game plays smooth with less than that but each to their own, 4K with a couple of settings on high will still look better than 1440p Ultra.

Hmm but the Geforce Experience recommended settings do not keep a solid 60fps at 4k. Have you been playing at 4k with a solid 60fps? I think I would have to turn a lot off and have all other settings at high...

Looking at all the issues with the top end cards, I assume I would struggle with this game on a 7870 2GHz XFX black edition, regardless of the i7-4790k

Couldn't care less about 60FPS, this isn't BF4 or COD, as long as game play is smooth and minimum FPS are high enough I'm happy, my TX runs the game like butter with solid FPS which hardly move.

Game runs amazingly well on my Q9550 o/c'ed to 3.2Ghz, 8GB DDR2 PC2-8500 and ATI 290X (Asus Direct CUII) at 1920x1200. . . . I was a bit shell shocked how well it runs to be honest, nearly all on ultra/high. Hairworks turned on with the previously mentioned tweaks to make it run a bit smoother.

This game is stunning, will be sinking a serious amount of hours into this.

Question for people running a 4k monitor setup!

I'm not getting a steady 60fps and even with gsync I can notice lag on SLI 980's. For some reason at 4k I also get this weird strobe-like effect. I noticed if I turned AA off (not sure why I had AA on at 4k) it fixes it somewhat, but is still visible.

However I can max the game out at 1440p on ULTRA and with Nvidia Hairworks and AA and maintain a constant 60fps. The resolution difference is noticeable, but I think I prefer the more consistent smoothness of the gameplay!

So my question is what would you guys do? 1440p max or 4k with some concessions, but still not be able to maintain 60fps? Also, why is gsync not really working for me in this game... I notice a MAJOR difference from 60-40fps! I thought you shouldn't be able to tell the difference unless the fps went below 40?

would run it at your monitors native res which im guessing would be 4k. I have 980 sli @4k and Im also getting 40ish fps aa disabled, which is more than playable for a rpg imo. hopefully this new patch released today would improve performance somewhat. wont know till i try it later

Not if you turn down the settings, a mix of medium and high settings should net you a good framerate(40+)

Jesus this update is downloading slowly. Servers must be swamped. :p

Well I'm not sure about anyone else but I'm getting 10 - 15 more fps with this new patch, even been able to turn up the settings a little (now mostly high and hbao+ instead of ssao). Hairworks, Grass density and blur options off/low.

Area I was in was going down to 28-30 fps, now exact same location is 40- 45. Hopefully this keeps up as I was starting to consider putting the game to bed for a while as I couldn't get fps at a quality setting I was happy with.

This is on a 780 @ 1440p.

^^ Had the same issue with GOG Galaxy, crippled download speed. From 4.4MB to 0.02MB lol.

Un-installed and now updating direct from the GOG website, things come down full speed here. Will try GOG Galaxy again later on when it's more established / stable.

Game seems to be running nicer now, everything maxed out with Titan X / 4790K @ 1080P. Doesn't seem to be any drops / smooth performance.

Kudos to CDPR for getting patches out so quick.

Thanks for the reply, holding off until the R9 390x cards appear then I will look at upgrading, will also need to bump the monitor at the same time as I am still on a Samsung T220 1680x1050 screen.

Game seems to run nicely maxed on my 970 at 1200p. Even if frames are on average around 40 or under, it feels smooth.

But I just cant get it out of my head, that I want to buy another 970....

you noticing same drops with hairworks on or off or about the same?
you should checkout the rendering.ini if you feeling nerdy, see if they made some ninja edits

Yeah that's with everything switched on and max settings for each. HBAO, Hairworks etc.

Seems fine, smooth, no drops. Hopefully it will keep getting better and better with updates / support from CDPR.
