The Witcher 3 Dev: Recommended PC Specs Will Run It At 30FPS, Not 60FPS, Details On Graphics Effects

Part of me thinks this be like Crysis where everyone says "Can it run witcher 3?" whenever new hardware arrives :D

These are the reccomended specs

Intel CPU Core i7 3770 3.4 GHz/AMD CPU AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 770/AMD GPU Radeon R9 290
RAM 8GB
OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
DirectX 11
HDD Space 40 GB

Pretty sure an I5 will be enough for this, especially if its Oc'ed.

Im so going to laugh my butt off if it turns out this game requires 8 threads to run properly(as long as it is for the right reason and not because of missing optimization).

Start with lambchop, please... :D

a 770 and a 290 is going to get 30fps ? Thats scary. I'm gonna buy another 980 and tri sli just incase :p :D

gtx770 = r290, that's scary, where their "optimizations" go! ;)

Nvidia has probably encouraged them to say such a thing to make their products look better. I like nvidia cards but man do I hate their business practices.

If it would be only words, but I'm afraid they gonna sell (well, already did actually) to nvidia just as much as they've sold themselves to Microsoft; or worse.

So another year until anything under £300 will run this OK? It makes it worse than the original Crysis when the 8800GT and 8800GTS 512MB could run it OK at under £300.

I am hoping against hope that there is a good xfire profile in place when this is released. Mildly concerned at the ability of my 3570k, as there are quite a few games that really push it even at 4.5ghz now.

We need pc games to start pushing the envelope. This is how it should be in my book, and this could be the next Crysis (but with better gameplay and story, hopefully).

However, I agree that article, is a tad ambiguous at best. There is a worrying trend for some recent games to be locked at 30fps. I very much doubt that this developer would do that though.

The worrying thing isn't any lock but when a top developer targets 30fps in general for a normal/low resolution and a 8 thread cpu then getting higher isn't certainly going to be simple.

Honestly the idea of having a game that looks great still 3 years from now is absurd, it really always has been. 90% of higher profit sales, ie not £5 in steam sale prices, will be within the first 12 months. Probably the majority of people who will play the game will buy and play it within the first year or two. Why not make a game that looks and plays smoothly and nicely in that time bracket. The concept of making a game that runs a bit like turd but might still look comparatively great in 5 years has always been absurd.

I pre-order the game, I play on release.... i only get a great experience when I replay it 3 years later?

If it can run 60fps+ out of the gate without ridiculous hardware, great, but when game companies start talking up targeting 30fps it's not usually because it will easily hit 60fps or more. With the recent history of heavily Nvidia involved games running like utter turd, or narrow that slightly to recent Nvidia games that went the higher graphical power direction running like crap, it's not encouraging to hear that a 290 and 8 thread cpu will be potentially only getting in the 30fps region. The only (off the top of my head) gameworks/twimtbp title that didn't run like crap recently was Borderlands, but the style and engine is something that has run great on anything from the past 3-4 years hardware wise, it's not even slightly intensive graphically. Watchdogs, AC, or the year of the stutterfest hasn't left me highly optimistic.

We are currently stuck in a difficult situation with graphic cards.

The ‘mainstream’ GPU release these days is done with a view to making the user upgrade in 12 months’ time because it’s just capable for current games, I almost feel like graphics cards are a yearly £300 subscription these days.

Now it doesn’t help when most developers release buggy abominations, but as long as this game is properly optimized and coded well it should be fine sub 60 fps, as long as there are no massive spikes around every corner.

Maybe if developers started releasing more games that pushed hardware for reasons other than it being terribly coded it would force manufacturers to actually pick their game up a bit rather than plod along giving us a few % increase here and there with each release.

I didn't read it as their target is 30fps, just being open about how demanding this will be on a year old £300 GPU.

The news I was fearing and my OH :D. Seems I will have to retire my 2500k (the best bang for buck cpu I have ever had :(). I so want to play this game in all it's glory, but at what cost!? I currently game at 1440p, and whilst my current rig played through Crysis 3 with relative ease, I sense it will not be able to play TW3 at the level I would like.

So, given the specs in my current sig, what will I need to upgrade in order to enjoy TW3 at as close to 60fps with the high setting? I guess the 2500k needs to be replaced with something like the 4790k? This will also need a new mobo, so that is £400/£450 right there.

Gpu won't cut it either, or at least on it's own, so I am looking at possibly gtx970 sli and given the fact that I am under water currently, this will then cost another £700. Given the fact that the 970 has been reported to reach vram limits and the fact that I game at 1440p, would a better option be to go 290x xfire?

I currently have an rm850 psu. How close to the limit would I be with any of the above upgrades? I know that 970sli can cope, but should I be looking to upgrade the psu at the same time?

I would probably upgrade my ram as well to 16gb, thats another £150 ish.....

So in a nutshell, prob looking at upwards of £1500 to play TW3.......:eek:

Just as well I've not even played the Witcher yet (1st one). Booted up the Witcher 2 last night to test my GTX 970 (yeah, yeah) and it looks gorgeous. At least when I get round to playing the Witcher 3, I'll have a PC that can handle it!
