The Witcher 3 Dev: Recommended PC Specs Will Run It At 30FPS, Not 60FPS, Details On Graphics Effects

I guess some of you never played The Witcher 2 on "uber" settings then? I still struggle with those settings and 3 Titans and that game was released in May 2011. I also fear that some of you don't want graphics progression in case you can't run it but you do know you can turn the settings down or you can upgrade. SLI/CF works pretty well in more or less every game now :D

Tried it once on my 780, it didn't end well :D

If the game is coded and optimized well then sub 60 fps is not as big an issue as you would think (still no ideal imo), but as Gregster said we need big company's to push out well designed graphically intensive games to incentivize hardware company's to step up, because they are starting to seriously drag their heels.

Also its nice to think that like the Witcher 2, people in 5 - 10 years time can still play it for the first time and not only enjoy a great story but a graphically pleasing game.

The news I was fearing and my OH :D. Seems I will have to retire my 2500k (the best bang for buck cpu I have ever had :(). I so want to play this game in all it's glory, but at what cost!? I currently game at 1440p, and whilst my current rig played through Crysis 3 with relative ease, I sense it will not be able to play TW3 at the level I would like.

So, given the specs in my current sig, what will I need to upgrade in order to enjoy TW3 at as close to 60fps with the high setting? I guess the 2500k needs to be replaced with something like the 4790k? This will also need a new mobo, so that is £400/£450 right there.

Gpu won't cut it either, or at least on it's own, so I am looking at possibly gtx970 sli and given the fact that I am under water currently, this will then cost another £700. Given the fact that the 970 has been reported to reach vram limits and the fact that I game at 1440p, would a better option be to go 290x xfire?

I currently have an rm850 psu. How close to the limit would I be with any of the above upgrades? I know that 970sli can cope, but should I be looking to upgrade the psu at the same time?

I would probably upgrade my ram as well to 16gb, thats another £150 ish.....

So in a nutshell, prob looking at upwards of £1500 to play TW3.......:eek:

Nah, get a 2700K and overclock it. Another 780 wouldn't go astray either.

Yeah, don't upgrade your mobo etc, no need. Whack in a 2600k and clock the ** No disguised swearing ** out of it.

Hmm food for thought and it would save me a packet too. I guess £80 for my 2500k would make a 2600k about £40/£50 upgrade cost, and I could still pretty much keep my watercooling as is. Couple that with another 780 and waterblock, should cost no more than say £350 ish total...like it :D

The Devs are stating the obvious here. Can't wait for this game, DA Inquisition is crap IMHO.

Droooooool !!!!

Innit!!!

I know nothing about the game but that trailer alone has made me want it. I will be getting it as soon as it is released. I have The Witcher 3 on pre-order and with CDPR stating that the DLC will be free for everyone, they just go up in my estimation.

Ah yeah, I forgot we'll get Cyberpunk later this year too! Looks absolutely insane. I had a picture of an actress doing mo-cap for it on my PC, and Googled it the other day. Reminded me of that game.

I think I definitely need to invest in a CPU upgrade to get the most out of the Witcher 2 and 3.

PURE example that people don't even read.... OK let me dumb this down for you... THE GAME at the RECOMMENDED spec will run at around 30FPS... This DOES NOT mean the game is CAPPED at 30fps... They are basically saying in a "gentleman" like way that there game is a BEAST when it comes to specs and require strong hardware to reach the 60FPS mark... reminds me of the Crysis days :-)

Yep, a lot of jumping to conclusions going on.

No way mate? I've been re-playing on Uber since Christmas with a single 970 and 8350 oc'd and I average around high 50's in the frame rates.

Your system should wipe the floor with mine.

Or is your standard of struggling anything below 60 fps? :)

Have to admit this has me considering a jump to a 3770K myself, but that would be a pricier move for me

1440P :)

Just to show what I mean and fair, this only really is this demanding at the start but The Witcher 2 on a pair of Titans at 1440P Uber mode.

why are some of you even considering upgrading from good I5's to I7's?

Game reccomended specs especially on the CPU side are always misleading.

A bunch of games recently have had I7's/8core FX cpus listed as reccomended.

Each time one of the 2 things happens.

1.It runs fine on a decent quadcore core cpu.The 8 threads are totally unnecessary.

2.It runs like **** on every CPU,regardless of number of threads.Inevitably the game hammers one core, and barely touches the rest.In this case the 8 threads dont matter, the game is just horrible optimization. The reccomended specs should just be "As high a clockspeed per thread as you can manage, cause wer have no idea wtf we are doing"

CDPR are decent devs,i expect an I5 will fine for this game, might need to be Oc'ed to get to 60fps (its an open world game after all)
