The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

i didnt find TW3 encouraged exploration at all tho.

there are no hidden secrets to find. you need to activate a mission via cut scene by talking to someone via map marker and then "explore" via witcher senses.

I use games as a means to escape reality for a bit and just loved roaming around in the beautiful world they created while listening to the awesome soundstrack. Also enjoyed finding a new little village and finding someone to play Gwent with as I got addicted to playing that game. If anything the names above people and animals and repetitive dialogue was a bit immersion breaking, thats another mod |I hope exists, to shut the villagers up and remove name tags.

They could have made exploration better like you say there wasn't much in the way of hidden secrets etc. I also wish the weapons had some lore behind them, rather than just a name. It would be cool to find a new sword and read a bit about it's history and would add a bit more depth to the game.

For me, The most important mod is No Talk Icon. For some reason I'll never understand, all npcs have the word 'talk' above their heads that you can't turn off. The icon is there even when you are too far to actually talk to them, and they don't say anything anyway! That mod changes it so they only activate when you are very close to them.

Close second is the one that always gives you full xp for quests, to counter the baffling quest level system in the game.

The one that removes level requirements for swords and armour also really improves the game and gives you more freedom imo, but it isn't for anyone. For me, if I spend ages in a really hard fight killing a level 40 creature at level 5 and he drops a piece of armour I should be able to use it!

yup. dont get me wrong, tw3 is one of my favorite games but people describe it like its BOTW, and it isn't. BOTW and skyrim are still the main RPGs ive played where i will just wonder the land and then just find something and epic and be like wtf.

oh god the level requirement stuff was PATHETIC.

in my first few hours of the game I got a level 35 sword, was totally psyched, and didn't get to use it until the DLC!! thats 80 hours later. i was literlaly never excited for an item.

That reminds me, another essential little mod for me is one that puts the level requirements on notice boards. Saves the annoyance of picking up a quest from a notice board thinking it sounds interesting only to find it is 30 levels above you, which can be like 80 hours playtime later! (on a tangent, but my why not disable that quest until the player is nearer the level. There is no point doing higher level quests because as discussed before, you won't be able to use any of the loot you get from it)

I linked you to a mod that does that, Friendly Hud. The mod has to much to list it all but here is what you looking for: - Configurable interaction markers and text: switch talk bubble/text over NPCs heads on and off or switch all interaction buttons/text off completely.

Although I don't think it will shut them up, but at least you wont have the name tags above the people. When you have the time read through the description and it might offer you even more.

I had no issue with having higher level quests in my quest log and simply doing them later.

I picked up a quest at the Inn at the crossroads at level 5, it was something like level 32...by the time I could do it I couldn't remember a thing about it. The cutscene explaining it was 75 ingame hours earlier, which is around about 2 months earlier.

Man- "can you look for my brother and the people he was escorting , he's gone missing and I'm worried"

Geralt- "yeah sure"

A year later

Geralt "hey, lucky you are still sitting there, I just looked for those people, they are all dead. Give me my reward"

You don't think that could be done better by just disabling the quest until Geralt was, say level 30?

I am around 20-30 hours into the game. Really liking it, Struggled at first to get into it but it got better the more i played.

Only issue i have is remembering everything that is going off, i will pick up a quest and read it and then do a different quest and by the time i get to the other quest i have forgotten whats happening if that makes sense.

I have over 10k gold, and have not spent anything so far nor have i needed to craft anything. I mostly run around with my weapons damaged which dont get repaired until they are replaced with better ones. Should i be spending my gold or crafting stuff? I just have not found the need, not playing it on easy either lol

Also had a strange issue a couple of times where i would get a hard PC lock up(black screen and have to press reset) when i get to a certain bit, which was replicated if i was to reload my save and walk back to the same spot. Thought my save game was broken and i was screwed, so walked a different route and was then able to get to the place i wanted, and if i then walked to the place it crashed it no longer crashed. Very strange.

Normally, at least for me, gold was useful in getting last few bits or when forging weapon and armor sets, you mentioned you have not crafted stuff, but there are plenty of sets in the game for which you can get schematics, and then using the base items, get higher level schematics to update the base level items and so on. Gold can come in useful when trying to get say all the sets at the same time (if your a completionist)!

By level 20-30 you should have been able to find some schematics for complete sets of gears to use IMO, ones that fit your playstyle, but given the game is relatively easy, not a must but does look badass getting gear and seeing each of the pieces upgraded over time!

I do have a lot of schematics and stuff i can craft, how do i know which ones are part of the sets and not just random ones i can craft? im level 19 at the moment

There is several different armour sets, being at Level 19 you can pick between Bear School Gear (heavy gear), Cat School Gear (light gear) and Griffin School Gear (medium gear), and the quests to obtain these sets falls under the Treasure Hunt category (Scavenger Hunt quests). Later on when you more to another area, you will get the base schematics for Wolf School Gear as well (you might be getting the higher tier gear before hand though). Then Heart and Stone adds another set, from the Viper School. And Blood and Wine adds yet one more, the Manticore School Set. And then you have the matching Steel and Silver Swords to go with each set as well. You also need the Basic Gear to make Enhanced Gear and so on, in total each Set has 5 tiers.

But read the schematics you have, some I liked comes from Assassin's sets for example and there is others. If you get some dropped or can buy and you like them, go for it. But yeah, the different school gears are the best though. :p

Nah that's a good point. But if the quest simply wasn't there until that level, and with high level you are in completely different area, how do you find out about it unless you randomly go back?
I guess I didn't have a problem with this because I only play one game at a time, and TW3 is the kind of game I dedicate my free time to when playing it, so it was never all that long for me to forget anything.

It isn't just a problem that happens in this tbh. Most open world games such as this do it in some way. It is just a bit amplified in this because it is so story focused, and also it just seems so obvious a thing to change to me. It didn't particularly bother me, but it is a bit immersion breaking having the quests there ignoring them and then picking them up a long time later.

It is things like this that hopefully CDPR work on for future games... A lot of people forget that whilst TW3 is a great game, it is pretty much their first open world game, and game of this scale.

One of the beat mods I've used is one for Skyrim called Timing is Everything. I think Elder Scrolls/Fallout game do a pretty good job with levelling and quests anyway, but this mod let's you configure at what level quests appear. For example you can set the Dawnguard dlc to only activate after the main game is completed or at level 50 say. Or a certain Daedric quest to activate at level 12(which is pretty much how the game does it anyway). A mod like this for TW3 would be excellent. It stops you picking up quests you don't want to do straight away and your quest log getting cluttered.

This game is truly superb. So much detail in everything and the side quests are above the level of what I expected of the main quests.

My main issue though? Ciri's voice acting. The only character to be utterly crap.

I said earlier that Blood and Wine is probably the best expansion ever made. I just have to reiterate that. There is not a single quest/side quest that has made me think 'ugh, it's this bit' on the contrary, I've enjoyed every quest as much as the last. It really has most of the game's best bits.

Only thing that annoys me, and this isn't TW3 specific, I find this with a lot of RPGs- I'm picking up so much stuff and so many abilities that would have been very helpful earlier, but as it is, I've only got like 10 hours of game time left! (but then that is why TW3 is one of the best games to play ng+, in fact I think it is best to play ng+ imo). It is making me think that maybe it is best to play HOS before B&W.

Is that 8K textures as well ? i see a lot of these 8K game videos, but a lot are just 1080p or even 4k textures just upscaled, so not really true 8K, not many games have even 4K textures, let alone 8K.

No, 4K textures. Very few 8K textures exist for TW3 and there's too many issues with them so the guy gave up on making more. You're right in what you say but the higher res still looks great aiding visual clarity & crispness. I'll be shocked to see a true 8K game in the next 10 years, so these will have to do for now.
