The Witcher-Official Thread

^^ yeah thats something interesting about this game - you cant complete quests unless you have the Knowledge to complete them!

to Streeteh : I think you need the herbalist talent as well as the book - i could be wrong though

e.g.

i killed a couple of ghouls so in effect perhaps this would mean i could complete one of the Act 1 quests but i wasnt able to harvest them(get their blood i think) because i didnt have the knowledge. I think you only get the knowledge from books or possible from speaking to NPCS. Which makes sense really :)

Also what i like about this game is that seemingly insignificant random NPC do actually play a part and are significant - they aint just scenery :D

Hmmm, yes just noticed the herbalism skill in the level up menu, however i am miles away from my next level. I also can't find the merchant in the tavern to buy the flowers from. Basically i'm stuck on that quest until i level up... hooray.

**SPOILER** Highlight to reveal: -

You can buy them from the Viziman (or whatever) herbalist, he's usually outside the inn.

This game is fantastic.

seem to be stuck trying to kill the beast dog thing tho?? kicks my ass every time, I blame my age and slower reflexes. :(

I think it was just luck but I managed to target it and use the stun spell and then 1 shot kill it.

I'm on the Stone Golem in chapter 2 now and that sods tough, bet I'm just going about it the wrong way though hacking away at him :D

SPOLIER - READ IF YOU WANT TO BEAT THE GOLEM

I started off the same way, all you have to do is click on the pylons, when he is in the middle click the last and a lightning bolt will strike and do mega damage

In the absence of a demo (so far) I have a dumb question or three: is this game:

1) Third person only?
2) You can play first person if you want?

If first-person is available, is it one of those insanely annoying games that drops back into third person for fighting and/or talking? Step forward Gothic3 and Two Worlds for this game-breaking feature. If it's this, can it be forced to stay in first person?

Screen shots seem to be a random mixture of viewpoints so I can't tell.

Cheers

There is no first person mode, only third person and two isometric views (high and low). The only time first person comes into play is when there is dialog.

The game wouldn't work properly if it was first person, but the other views really work well.

There is no first person only your standard isometic view which forces you to see mostly floor and an over the shoulder viewpoint which means you can use the mouse to look around while using the keys to walk.
You can change viewpoints on the fly too using the function keys.

It took me a little while to get used the latter but I think it works pretty well and does a good job of imersing you in the world.

I've been playing the whole game in over the shoulder view, surprised at how effective and immersive it is. Prefer using the keys for movement and dodging in battles in this view anyway.

*Spoiler*

yeah i one shotted the beast as well, stunned him before he stunned me :p

OTS camera is pretty good imo, use it all the time now as well

***SPOILER***

Maybe some consideration could be used for people who have'nt almost completed the game, by putting Spoiler in the post?:(

Yeah you're right Leuven, I ammended my post slightly. Didn't think it was a prob since others mentioned it earlier.

It wasn't directed at you or anyone inparticular just generally, but thanks anyway.

Some of us are slower at games than others,:D and for some reason spend more time on forums reading about a game they could be playing.:D

<Leaves forum and fires up The Witcher>

CHokKA and Frosti

Thanks - means I don't have to waste money buying it. I hate third person with a passion which is impossible to describe. At the very least it's a complete immersion-breaker.

ha some of these finishing moves are sheer class when you have stunned someone.

I just jumped on a stunned dudes shoulders and repeatably beat him round the head with my fists :D
