The Witcher-Official Thread

Just this second killed the beast. OMG!!! how hard was that. The guy earlier saying that he had slotted him with one stun and then special - I don't think so mate.

oh yes I did :)

*spoiler*

Soon as the cutscene ends the beast came straight for me and he usually puts a stun in, which ius what causes ppl probs. I got my stun in a split second before tho, and immediately click him for the finishing blow. Took 3 tries but it is doable. If you go the normal route and try to take out the other dogs first it can be quite challenging.

Spoiler: The key to defeating the beast effortlessly is to make and consume some "blizzard" potion before the battle, this will increase your speed and reflexes so massively that you can't possibly lose most fights. Make sure you dodge too before it puts a stun/pain on you or you'll be standing there for ages. Blizzard should make you get a stun in easily too.

Not really posting that in specific response to you as you did it just fine, but a lot of people have trouble when it comes to defeating The Beast when really it's utterly easy. And yes, you're right it's possible to one-hit him. :)

A a lot of people on the official forums are shouting 'buggy' and 'cant complete quest because of blah blah blah'. When in actual fact they need to dig a bit deeper and find ways of doing things. This game is solid, exciting and very deep, not for hack and slash players.
The more I play the weirder (or maybe more logical) things I try, like when someone disappears whom I need to talk to ill go talk to someone who was sat/stood near him. Very much of the time I pleasantly surprised that I get another clue. This game gets into my top three fav games ever.
Been playing it for four of my five days off shift and im still only in Act2, and not even been to the swamp properly yet!

I know you can fraps them, but the developers really should be shot for having a game that looks as good as this, and not putting in a bloody screenshot key :p

I got this game with huge expectations after reading the reviews, as i love those types of games, but..

is it only me that HATES the control and moving around system?
Also the game is a bit too.. controlling for me. Like when you're in the castle right at the beginning, and you climb the outside stone steps to move up to the top of the wall - why can't you fall/jump off? Really bugs me that the invisible barrier keeps you in!

Use the over the shoulder view and assign movement to your usual fps keys.

The castle is the tutorial basically, what did you expect?

Hey guys I'm back from my first ever ban from any forum. I did sort of deserve it for badly masked swearing, but heck what can a guy do when discussing that dreadful Eurogamer review.

I was wondering if any of you are using the new 8800GT and if so how is it performing with witcher, as I have just ordered one.

??

1. Theres not just one control system dude... try different views and then reading the manual on how to move.

2. No you cant fall off because of the limitations of the engine this isnt a twitch FPS you know...

Its the same with most RPG games. You cant go beyond what the developers allow. In this case no-one has said you can run and jump off cliffs or whatever so why did you think you could do that? You cant do that in KOTR, Neverwinter Nights 1+2, Baldurs Gate, Arcanum, Vampire:Bloodlines etc and even in Oblivion there are invisible walls to prevent you going further. So i dont understand what you're wanting here....

Answering my own question: i guess i should congratulate the devs for managing to convince you that the game gives the impression that you can do these things. (given its in 3rd person similar to Gothic series)

If you want a game with minimal barriers then yeah try Morrowind/Oblivion (barriers are still there but itll take you a while to get to them hehe)

That has got to be one of the worst reviews I have ever read. The author has clearly spent no time whatsoever playing the game (most of his references are based on Chapter 1 and they're all so utterly exaggerated anyway) and clearly doesn't know what should and shouldn't make a good game. He has slated the voice acting which I think is pretty decent, has said that it is hard to care about the story (but that's one thing that makes me want to keep playing the game as I actually want to experience what happens next in the story) and has made stupid references to the "gameplay" but hasn't mentioned anything but the combat. There is loads more to the game than the combat. Also, they mentioned something about the dialog and how it can be "unintentionally funny or said with the wrong tone of voice". I'm no perfectionist, but I haven't noticed any major issues with the dialog in the game. So far it has been pretty top-notch and does well to further the story of the game. Finally, there's the part about waiting for NPC's to wake up. I've always just gone into their houses and woken them up by talking to them so I have no idea wtf that reviewer is on about. He / she obviously hasn't tried the most basic things in the game.

The entire review seems as if it was written by a dis-interested 13 year old that just decided to give it a go for the hell of it.

It's easy to become disheartened about this awesome game when reading reviews like that. Best advice that I can give to people thinking about getting it but that aren't sure: if you enjoyed the story and immersiveness of games like Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind, but want something on a higher level in these aspects, then give The Witcher a go. It will be well worth it.

Game is nothing like Oblivion and thank god for that :)

But yeah i think its pretty long so far.. 6 acts plus prologue and epilogue, around 50 hrs + How long do you want it to be? :D

Another review in here from Gamedaily gets 60 :(

http://www.gamedaily.com/games/the-witcher/pc/game-reviews/review/3106/1830/

Ouch, just read the review. He seems to have something aginst this game right from the offset!

6/10 Mediocre. With the summary "With the annoying combat, uninteresting characters and messy dialogue, it's probably a good thing that The Witcher lost his memory."

Aaaaaagh ..... I feel another swearing ban coming on. I just can't get over the fact that blandness gets rewarded while a game with style and character gets dumped on.

Lol, dude don't swear and get banned again. Read the comments at the bottom of the review and you will see the light :)

Probably a review by someone who doesnt appreciate the art of story telling , and simply wants to run around bump mapped, pixel shaded uber graphics with lots of explosions, "pwning" everyone

I just ordered this game along with The Orange Box.. I wasn't interested in buying it but after reading this thread I am quite looking forward to giving it a go :)

I'd never heard of this game until this thread, which I've been following with interest. The Witcher is now on my list of games to buy once I've got over my WoW addiction
