The Witcher series (Netflix)

I'm not really sure what I'm watching here over the first 3 episodes....

Wasn't this series called The Witcher? Because I'm not seeing much of The Witcher in it, doing Witcher things.

It's now called "weak, annoying, corrupt, evil, treacherous, emasculated men being out shined by honest, forthright, kind, gentle, strong, tenacious women"

What on earth have they done to this series. Oh hang on, the same that woke film and tv series production companies and directors have been doing for years. Thank god that Game of Thrones was created before this plague started running through our visual entertainment

It's not been The Witcher since S1 really, S2 had Geralt as a supporting carachter to the fems no-one gave a **** about. That's why Cavill left.

It's amazing how HOTD escaped the mind virus considering the time it was made, and also no surprises that it was superior in every reagard to ROP (with a fraction of the budget) which got infected very early on in production and never recovered.

Everything the virus infects, it kills.

I think you might be simplifying the whole virus thing but I get the jist of what you are saying. I'm actually ashamed to say that I haven't yet watched HOTD but that might just be because I instinctively know that I'll be disappointed due to loving GOT so much (apart from season 8 that is)

I think case against woke writing and entertainment is pretty much cut and dried, not sure what nuance there is really. Nothing is improved by it and much is ruined. But fair enough.

HOTD is not as good as peak GOT, but it's on par with 5-6 and better than 7-8 IMO. It's a smaller show in scale and ambition, but what it attempts, it very much succeeds in. Far better than any fantasy show since GOT, although that's a low bar!

Maybe I'll give it a go then. Maybe setting a low bar against anything right now is the way forward

"They/them boss" LMAO.

It's modern fantasy TV summed up to a "T".

Modern fantasy "writing" in one sentence. Throw the "problematic" and "toxic" source material everyone loves on the fire, gender and/or race swap 80% of the cast, white man sidelined/bad/incomptent/weak/loser and everybodys gay now for some reason. Cut. Next project.

And they wonder why it gets trashed and no-one wants to watch it...

;)

I sadly stopped after episode 3 of Season 3. It's just so awful I couldn't force myself through it. If reviews from peeps I trust give the 2nd part a thumbs up it might tempt me in.

I perhaps shouldn't admit this, but I'm not entirely sure what's going on... I guess it's a problem with having a bad memory, I can't really remember what happened last season and when they talk about people and such, I don't recall who they are so it tends not to link together. I had the same problem with GoT, which was much better the second time through when I could link it together better. This, I don't really have any want to watch a second time though...
No you aren't alone. I tend to follow things pretty well but this show tends to just introduce multiple new factions of people without any explanations. (or if it did it was probably one line 3 seasons ago). And they all have impossible to recall names so you are working against that. Also it doesn't give you any captions for new places so you never know where you are etc. Things like that would help to a degree. At the start of this current season there was at least 5 people doing things and I had no idea who they were or what their connection to the plot was :/

So apparently they're planning on introducing Hemsworth as an alternate world Witcher. That seems like a mistake, and messes with the Witcher setting in undesirable ways. IMO, they should just recast him and say nothing about it in the series but if they absolutely must a spell or something would be better.

So multiverse of Witcher?

An amternate Geralt would be utterly retarded. May aswell just give up on the plot entirely.

I don't know why shows don't do this these days. I think the last time I saw them just change the main character's actor without talking about it was Spartacus, unfortunately because the original actor died

This show is incredibly boring. It’s just so hard to care about this vast cast of characters, most of them being unlikable quasi-villains.

This show worked best when it’s ‘monster of the week’ (mostly series 1). All the chosen-one, overthrow the power, slow play political stuff is just really uninteresting.

Pretty much the same with the Mandalorian really. World building and adventuring for an indifferent hero = great. Wrapping that same hero in a ‘wider conflict’, not so much.

I don’t actually don’t dislike the main supporting characters (bard, Ceri, Yenifer), it’s just they (and Witcher) are so entangled with this ‘long game’ plot that they bring robbed of doing anything interesting.

Just haven't bothered with season three at all. I know exactly how it plays out.

A real shame as if they'd followed the source material and had the focus of the show on the title character, then it could have been good.

But it got more of a diverse fem fest with every episode.

Don't blame Cavil for leaving. It's dead in the water now. Season four will be it's last.
