So AMD Users are going to hate me. Seriously if it not the cable?

but just putting it out their. just took my faulty 7990 [artfiects] out my Case & changed it with a 570 2.5GB that i had spare.

The Picture quality Is epic compared to the 7990.....:confused:

All the text is sharper & crisp. And colours are better :confused:

but im not sure why...

So i had to change 7990 to 570 & DP-MINIDP cable to DVI-DVI

any one know why it looks better now??:confused:
 
I just went from 7970 to 780ti and I gotta admit, the image quality is noticeably better on the 780ti. Using the same hdmi cable to.

Also, the hdmi audio is a lot crisper in music than the 7970.

Is this not because default amd use ycbcr on hdmi? Change that to RGB full
Am sure nvidia use RGB as default.
That hdmi on dvi it's using rgb full and can't be changed.

I think the " this looks better effect " is all down to how the gfx card displays default settings differently on amd and nvidia, I saw in another thread just yesterday that someone went from a 780 to a 290x and said it looked better.

I am sure you could get both amd and nvidia to look exactly the same with some messing about.
 
The majority over the years have found amd to have better image quality. When the 8800gtx got released nvidia caught up and it's been pretty close since then. I doubt for the majority anyone would really notice a huge difference if everything was set up properly in this day and age.

You may be right there. My AV receiver says the signal is RGB 24bit from the 780ti, was the ycbrcr 3obit on the 7970.

It seems the reason has been given above so that explains why I always thought my green cards were a touch sharper and more vibrant than my red. Very good to know for future ref

intresting when i ran eyefinity i used all hdmi and found the colours looked a bit washed out and at the time i thought it was down to the monitors i was using but if what you say is right then mabe it was due to me using hdmi

Yeah, first thing I do when install new drivers is changes the HDMI colour output from stock ycbcr to RGB full..

That is for my TV, on Monitor its connected by Dual DVI this runs at standard RGB full range.

The difference between the two are massive, I believe ycbcr is more for movie watching just like RGB limited, RGB Full is for PC gaming and graphics as they show the complete RGB range = Full
 
The HDMI on my Monitor with my 290 and the 7870XT before that is horrible, blurry washed out.... but perfect on my TV, i guess a Desktop Monitor uses different input levels from TV's and AMD have it set for TV.

Did you use the 7990 like that for how long? thinking it was normal? :D why did you not use the DVI?

I always found NVidia cards to be a bit more hmm, not blury as such, but not as crisp as amd cards, it was as if the NVidia cards had auto AA without it enabled, and things looked more air brushed. where amd cards look crisper and sharper edges therefor needing AA

Just my personal opinion, but I guess you could make both graphics cards look exactly the same with a bit of messing around as said before

That is exactly how it looks washed out, change to RGB full and you get richer colours and brightness.

i was using Display-port so its not that... :p had my 7990 for almost a year (nov)

only thing it could be is: cable - highly unlikely as its digital. Monitor settings change between inputs. Nvidia have different profile

Isnt Display-port just updated version of HDMI? does CCC have the settings for RGB range when using Display port?

I not used Display port yet so not sure what setting CCC gives you.
 
I am switching from AMD to NVidia cards all the time as I use both. To me there does not appear to be much difference.
 
Imo, there doesn't appear to be the difference between them that there once was. Going from a GTX570 to my current card didn't yield much difference at all, which was a little disappointing. It's all about fps (& seems to have been for some time), where as quite far back in time I remember there being a definite change in IQ when buying a new card.
