It was blatantly obvious he'd do that. By losing Jedward, they lose viewers which means they lose revenue. They're a financial asset and like all things these days money is far more important than anything else. The bird was a victim of profit maximisation if anything.

  1. Cowell signs all the good singers before the show ends.
  2. Creates controversy by keeping J&E in the competition.
  3. More people talk about the show = more people watch the show the following week.
  4. More viewers = more money = happier Simon
  5. Ex-contestant releases song under Cowell and makes muchos money
  6. J&E get booted out after they've served a purpose i.e. towards the end
  7. Eventual winner releases song which hits Christmas no.1
  8. Cowell makes double the money from 2 sources.

The sooner people realise it's a set up and that he's playing the public, the better.

The whole show is 1 big device to build hype and secure Christmas No.1.

This...anyone with half a brain cell can work out why those 2 idiots are still in the show...the whole show along with the judges is a complete utter joke in all honesty...ive always thought thats its one big setup ie they know who exactly is going to win and engineer it to happen.

One of the reasons why i dont watch it unless im forced to by the gf:p...even then i tend to switch off..

Personally i would put my bets on Olly to win it...he seems to have it all and could go a long way in the music business.

There was not a single person at work that agreed to what have happened in the last 2 weeks. Simply this is not a singing competition anymore, just milk more money while you can.

Heard on the radio this morning there were around 3000 OFCOM complaints.

This strikes me as very odd.

It is a show where the public decides and 3000 members of the public complained that the public decided.

I just can't see where ofcom are going to go with this?

Don't think you know me because I watch x-factor.

I watch it on Sunday night kid has school on monday and it's great for relaxing and switching off. Record it and watch it via SKY+ just watch the singing and the comments and the show only really lasts around 1 hour (that's both episodes :D )

They'll will do nothing, and rightly so.

Three points:

1) Once again, the public are generally 'stupid'.
2) Simon Cowell has tripped up and confirmed he is either weak (bowing to producers) or greedy (in which case Kudos).
3) Lucie is hot.

I wonder what kind of controversy we will be discussing Sunday/Monday.

Jedward knocking another big hitter out and yet more uproar wouldn't surprise me.

None of them are that great to be honest. We have a large number of amazing singers already so why oh why do we need to get more people whos only talent is a good voice.

We need more artists that write music.

Shes can sing, thats it. So one of the best artists in the last 10 years maybe more when shes doesnt even write her own songs is just delusional and clearly misjudged.

Blah, blah, blah. 'Doesn't write her own songs', blah, blah, blah.

Check your facts guys.

OK, so you don't like her. That's fine. Just don't make up things just to suit your own argument!

Sting has said and done some pretty moronic things himself though. I agree with some of the things he said in that article but its pretty sensationalist.

He's acting as if Britain is the only country with a music talent contest TV show for a start.

I agree Sting has been a bit of a self involved idiot in the past. But I do agree with him and I am glad that he has spoken out, he adds some weight behind how much of a bad show the X factor is. It is not about talent or singing skill.. it is about money.

The Mirror's Fiona Phillips seems to be standing up for Simon and totally missing Stings point.

I think Fiona Phillips needs a new brain. All them early mornings on GMTV seem to have caused her brain to miss interrupt what her ears are hearing. What a load of tosh that 'article' is.. she put her name to that pile of ****?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news...silly-sting-misses-the-point-115875-21820006/

Amazing.. she must have a personal problem against Sting as she has totally lost what happened last week.. no mention of how the judges aren't actually judging, or how Lucie plainly had the better voice.

Gotta love the mirror.

edit: I have to laugh though at Stings photo in the article! What the hell does he look like? A big issue selling homeless guy with a one eyed dog?!

Sting has done some pretty moronic things no doubt.

In perspective though, the man is paid as a singer songwriter and he is one of the finest the music industry has seen.

He didn't find fame until his late 20s with The Police and when they split, he went on to launch one of the most successful solo careers ever seen in the music industry.

His opinions are based on him having been there, done that and got the T-shirt.

Yes I am biased towards Sting by the way. His band are my favourite and he is my top solo artist as well. ;)

All these people saying how bad a show it is yet they are somehow magically persuaded towards a thread called ' The X-Factor 2009 Thread'.

In what way is it a bad show? It gets people talking, it entertains and generally the cream always rises to the top at the end. It's an entertainment show ffs. People are just taking it a bit too seriously.

Sting has an agenda. He's got a nerve calling the show 'cynical' when he was the one being 'cynical' by coming out with this statement just as he happens to have a new album out. Talk about hypocrisy!

Some are missing the exact title of the show - X-Factor.
It isn't about the singing, it's about the person.
When The Police first started I sound engineered them at one local gig and Sting had the X-factor (of course I didn't call it that name back then).
I felt the same about many artists before they made the big time including Freddy Mercury & Boy George.
On a scale of X-Factor (money making potential), John & Edward have loads more than Lucie but to be honest there is no 'artist' on the show at the moment who I think have got the X-Factor.

So why do the most entertaining people go out in the first round of auditions?

You're confusing the 'X-Factor' for complete fools.
No matter how you dress it, John & Edward (and going by the amount of fans they now have) could have a place on TV in some form or other.
