***The X-Factor Thread - ALL X-Factor Related Stuff In Here***

It is the highest rated show on the telly, so this is to be expected.

Whether that's something which we as a nation should be proud of is a different matter of course , especially when we repeatedly bemoan the lack of British series akin to Dexter, Fringe, Lost, Firefly and BSG and so forth :)

It's equivalent is the biggest show in America is it not? Doesn't stop them putting out other good things.
They have more people to market programs to compared to us here, that helps them produce better shows ;)

No I don't believe that the us x factor is the biggest show in the us. My point is that tv channels will tend to copy the biggest show, if the biggest show is x factor then we will see a high number of x factor style clones (as we are) , if the biggest show is a dexter type show then we will see a higher number of that style of show. We , as a viewing nation, can hardly complain of a lack of quality shows if we watch something like x factor more than anything else. You reap what you sow as they say :)

Apparently it's the most watched series and has been no1 for last 6 seasons!
Simon Fuller is creaming it in!

I believe that the 2 biggest shows in the USA are Dancing with the stars (or whatever it's called) and American Idol. I'm not 100% sure of this, though.

The X-Factor in the USA hasn't even started yet so give it time lol,The American version of The X Factor is scheduled to premiere in September 2011.

Does kind of miss my point though, which was that we cant really complain that there is a lack of good shows when the one we watch the most is X-Factor. As a TV exec that would signal to me that the general populace wants more shows like X-factor rather than shows like Dexter, Lost and BSG. Its a bit like complaining that there is never any good football for you to watch and then mostly watching Tumbleweed United playing :D

Dont get me wrong, I watch X-factor...well, from time to time, though I admit that once the early rounds are over I tend to watch it a lot less as there isnt really anyone to laugh at anymore. I certainly wouldnt call it my tv highlight of the week though, or even in my top 20 watched shows.

Give over.
Nobody forced you.

How many more people are going to come in this thread saying -
My girlfriend made me watch it
My wife had it on in the kitchen and she had me trapped
It was on at the pub in every room

My other half put this on the TV and forced me to........go on the computer and watch something better instead.

Satisfied?

:)

I said the american equivalent, which is currently 'American Idol' ;)

I know what you meant, but like I said, they have more people to create shows for. It wouldn't make sense to make a show that only 1% of the UK would watch, but 1% of Americans (and then the resold rights abroad) make it more than worthwhile for them.

Also remember that America is churning out LOTS of detective programs, all the same thing with a little twist. So they are just as bad tbh :P

Oh, I would guess that America has talent is also highly ranked over their, so 3 of the biggest shows would be talent shows ;)

Good detective shows though :D , I'd certainly like to see more good detective shows on uk tv than the latest strictly dancing talent on ice singing cook-off in the jungle house reality show :D

(though admittedly I would appear to be in the minority on that)

Yeah, they are good (I watch far too many of them!). Can't see anyone coming up with the budget to make a decent rival to Spooks or the American programs (license to show over here must be a lot less than creating own show here by lots) :(

More british based would be great though, i do agree with that.

I know i'd rather watch anything rather than Stobbarts trucks or some other terrible 'fly on the wall' documentory :D

Yeah would be good to see some more innovative tv shows, stuff like Deadliest Catch and Ice Truckers on paper look very meh, but actually turned out to be surprisingly good. Would like to see some more outside of the box thinking like that.

I wonder if that was the inspiration of Stobbarts. Ice Road Truckers has some gripping stuff, stobbarts had..... slow driving lorries because of cakes in the trailer. lol
