***The X-Factor Thread - ALL X-Factor Related Stuff In Here***

Susan Boyle?

Circa 240,000 sales of her 2nd Album in the UK ?

Now the hype has died down and the music is all thats left, its not selling any more.

By Comparison her first album sold over 1.6 million.

The only track she's released from her 2nd album - perfect day. Entered the charts at Number 124.

It won't be long.

There has never been any point to the final.

Look at X Factor 2008 - Series 5.

You could possibly argue that JLS have had more success than Alexandra Burke despite coming 2nd.

Diana Vickers was eliminated in the Semi Finals like Mary was, and has done perfectly well for herself despite coming 4th !!

Simon will sign up One Direction even if they don't win. Mary was never going to have a career. You can't start this late. Steve Brookstein prooved this. It just doesn't work.

I dont think matt is strong enough to be a recording artist, the only question is whether Cher or Rebecca do. Who wins is irrelevant, always has been.

Look at John & Edward. Multi millionaires already.

Winning doesn't mean anything as you say plenty have done well so far, from what I can find out JLS have sold over 1 million albums and Burke over 4 million.

Susan Boyle is a much better singer than Mary but as said the hype is dying down but doesn't really matter she has made a mint from it.

Thing is, having an amazing singing voice isn't enough. The X factor has seen tons of very talented singers over the years, but they just can't make it as a recording artist.

Thats why artists like Diana Vickers have made it despite coming 4th. Because its not about who wins or looses, or who can sing the best. Its about who can make a recording artist. Something the public vote can't tell you.

*edit*

Also, the 4 million figure for Alexandra Burke included all single sales too

4 million records.

If we're counting records JLS have sold over 3 million easy, so not that far behind, with 4 number 1 singles and 2 number 1 albums.

There was music in the first place? Do a google for Ricky Grevaise and susan boyle its hilarious :p

Clearly you are pretty clueless and spouting more rubbish than I ever could ;)

Where is your debate?
You have quoted a drummer who is trying to defend himself because he prostitutes himself playing for X-factor/Pop Idol/manufactured Boyband members by saying it was more REAL in the old days.

It was more real in the old days. Since the likes of will young, leona lewis and alexandra burke, there hasn't really been any stand out talent on the show. But keep on defending your favourite tv programme, it's quite amusing how defensive you are over TV mediocrity.

What's amusing is how much you are defending yourself against a show that you apparently have no interest in ;)

Not really. All I started out saying was that there are really crappy singers on the show. I've said it twice and I'll say it again for the hard of reading, I do watch the show. I'm just a bit stunned that people like dmpoole get so defensive and start an argument over absolutely nothing worthwhile. Just accept my opinion, don't make a big fuss about it, and move the hell on.
You think they're good singers, fine. That's your opinion

I'm not getting defensive about the show because it is basically crap but I'm laughing at your stupid post that you think it was better in the old days of X-Factor/Pop Idol because a drummer says so who is trying to defend his choice of musical bosses.
What also amazes me is that you're a musician with such a low esteem of other talent.
I bet you're the type who stands at the back of a pub watching a rival local band, saying crap and then walking out after 2 songs.

It's BECAUSE I'm a musician that I can tell the difference between good, average and rubbish, or didn't that occur to you? You think it's snobbish or arrogant of me just because I have a more discerning musical palette? I also voiced my opinion BEFORE reading what that drummer had to say. And the talent WAS better in the past. It's amazing you call the show crap, yet when I say they're all rubbish, you get on your own high horse saying they're not crap. Talk about being a hypocrite.

I never stand at the back of a pub. I'm either gigging in them or I don't go to pubs. Just because I **** off so called singers on a tv talent show, you think you've got me all figured out in real life? Let's face it, [jn]YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH![/jn]

I've been gigging in bands at least twice a week for the last 40 years (1970 was my first paying gig) and I would NEVER be so conceited and big headed to ever think I knew better because of what I do or have done.
You have a lot of growing up to do.

Just in case you think I'm lying -

He says it was better back in the day before xfactors recent years.....

Michelle McManus. Yes. She was great, so much more talented than anyone recently........

Lol christ, do you do this all the time, blow things completely out of proportion? Take a step back and look at what you're doing. You're getting all riled up because I made a passing reply in a thread saying they're all rubbish and ending it with a tongue in cheek smiley. Now you're boasting about yourself with not one but three links. Seriously, go out for a walk. We're arguing over.. the x factor. :(

You are claiming YOU KNOW BETTER because you hit drums.
I think you should take a look at yourself.
I am boasting about my experiences to get a point over to you but it certainly doesn't make me KNOW BETTER ABOUT MUSIC than anybody else.
Seriously, if you go around with that attitude you'll end up being unemployable and nobody will want to gig with you.

Anyone else find it funny reading all the judges arguing against the fix claims? Most of the time their arguments include 'its what the public want...' or 'it makes it more exciting to watch for the public...'. How the hell can they say such tripe when its the public who are the ones complaining about it.

Also the idea to switch to a sing off and the judges to vote last weekend was to make it fresh and exciting this series.... by making it exactly the same as EVERY OTHER WEEK.... or in lamens terms 'we find it easier to fix the results to our liking this way. lolololol FU'

Lol, did you know that sting slammed the show last year. Better go tell him to grow up too huh?

No, I'm claiming that the talent is not very good because that's my opinion, and that being a musician and working with singers of varying talent over many years has simply attuned my ears more to what I feel is good, average or pretty useless.

Mate, you know nothing about me. I've been playing for 38 years and teaching for 18 years. I've had the pleasure of working in many varied situations from reading theatre shows to pop gigs with named artists, worked four world cruises, and now I freelance with blues bands, pop bands, and anything that comes up. So you're basically patronising me and making the apparent assumption that I'm some cocky youngster who knows nothing. Do you honestly think that me criticising a bunch of wannabe singers on the TV in my front room that neither you nor me will ever meet is going to somehow suddenly affect my career, because I said it on an internet forum? It was just a throwaway comment I made several pages back, and you've made a big deal out of it. Get a grip dear chap. ;)

No, I'm claiming that the talent is not very good

Overall, this year the talent has been very low. The standard of the people that they are putting through has got less and less and you can see very early who they will be taking to the live shows.
