The X-Files is reopened!

I watched it, I'm interested to see where they go with this but let's just say that if that was a pilot episode for the original x-files then I doubt it would have been picked up. The thing I always liked about the x-files was the possibility of it being plausible (remember this was the pre-internet age*) - there could have been some weird cases where an explanation hadn't been found by the investigators, you knew it was probably nonsense, but only probably. I just found the conspiracy we were introduced to last night overwhelming and too fantastic. I didn't see the last couple of series of the x-files so maybe I'm missing how it ended. I was also a bit concerned about the political undertones as well - government=bad, internet-led anarchy=bad - I think that's getting a bit tedious now.

I thought Scully looked really rough, do you think they made her up that way deliberately to reflect the alien DNA inside her?

* I actually got (my Dad to buy) a 56k modem while the original series of x-files was on. A Windows 95 X-Files theme was one of the first things I downloaded :p

I thought it was pretty awful, and probably won't continue watching. I loved the show in it heyday, but this seems stuck in the past, when TV drama has moved on. They could have done something tense, and atmospheric, but this came across as nonsense... cheap, badly written nonsense

The fact that it was picked up by Channel 5 did make me drastically lower my expectations.

I can't remember the last time I watched something decent on C5 :p

With a whimper. The last two episodes were just awful :( A really sad and pathetic way to end a show.

Yeah... my expectations were on the floor for the same reason, but I still came away disappointed.

Plus, putting up with ad breaks (and sponsored by Hitman the game) made it even worse.

It was never going to end well.

I watched it I just had to being an old Fan & just hope it picks up a bit as I thought it a bit weak, Being honest though I'll have to watch All the other shows anyways.

Fanboy :D

I watched it on the Demand5 Windows app, no ad breaks at all on that during the show. It didn't improve the quality of the show though.

As a casual watcher, it was filled with as much nonsense with all the other series, but in this modern Internet age conspiracy theories are all 10 a penny :p

Needed more monster of the week :E

It almost feels like these episodes are feelers. Put six out to test the water for more.
Not sure why I think that but there is no resolution to the story arcs, more revists.

Wasn't particularly impressed with it, pretty basic and boring stuff really. I never really saw much of the early seasons so I was coming into this with an open mind and zero nostalgia, but it was just a bit crap.

This programme is simply dreadful. Episode 3 was embarrassing and cringe worthy to watch. Why has Fox got the X-files theme tune as his mobile ringtone? It stinks of twee and seems quite stuck up it's own backside.

I've got it recorded, but I'm glad I haven't watched it now.

I think I'll just keep the memories of some awesome episodes from my childhood.

It was always going to be dreadful :( Like when they brought back Red Dwarf.

Watched first episode last night but felt like similar ground being re-treaded. I did enjoy it though.

BTW...forum rules state absolutely no discussion of any episodes until they are aired in the UK. I know you guys are only saying that eps 3/4 are good/bad/whatever but how long until someone posts an actual spoiler and ruins it for the rest of us.

If more episodes than the first have shown, I apologise in advance for my little rant. :D

Any thoughts on last night's episode? I thought it was better than the first episode, I think I've always preferred the ones that stay clear of the alien conspiracy plot, although:

Did they ever explain why Kyle killed the Indian fella at the start? Why did the Indian fella have that apartment with all those pictures of mutated kids? I did get distracted at one point last night so may have just missed this.

Not read that spoiler but I agree, Ive always preferred the one off episodes of something odd.

For instance the mud man monster or whatever it was, when Moulder and Scully move into a house together undercover and the episode where they go to some Artic experimental research centre where there is some sort of virus.

I'm really disappointed with the whole thing tbh. It's not particularly funny, though it would try to be. It's doesn't really have the 'feel' of the franchise, and doesn't really function as a reboot either. It just doesn't seem to have a reason to exist other than to drag out old characters for 45 mins and see who buys it. It's hammy, unfunny, corny, and cringeworthy. Sigh. When I heard Tom Waits I nearly cracked a tooth.
