With threads and threads of people being made redundent or finding it hard to find jobs, I thought a thread like this may come in useful...

We all know the usual job hunting websites;
(Will update as thread continues)

http://www.fish4.co.uk/ - General
http://www.indeed.co.uk/ - General
http://www.monster.co.uk/ - General
http://www.totaljobs.com/ - General
http://www.cv-library.co.uk/ - General
https://www.gov.uk/jobsearch Government's Official Site
http://www.milkround.com/ - Graduates / Students
http://targetjobs.co.uk/ - Graduate / Students
http://www.technojobs.co.uk/ - IT Industry
http://www.cwjobs.co.uk/ - IT Industry
http://www.theitjobboard.co.uk/ - IT Industry
http://www.grapevinejobs.com - Broadcasting / Post-Production Jobs
http://jobs.foodmanufacture.co.uk/ - Food Manufacturing

http://www.nats.co.uk/careers/atc/ - Air Traffic Controllers (apparently always recruiting)

Twitter Advertisers:
https://twitter.com/TescoCareers - Tesco Career

This thread is for people who know of / come across job advertised (internally / externally) by companies they work for / in contact with (NO RECRUITMENT AGENTS!); to help spread the word out so people can get wind of jobs they don't know exist, normally find or before it comes up on the usual websites.

Please ensure you include;

  • Advertised Position
  • Company Name
  • Job Location
  • Job Criteria/Requirement
  • How To Apply
  • Closing Date

A weblink will certainly come in useful but not essential.

Anyone who have a specific query about the company or job MUST quote the original post, and the reply should quote the question to help others with similar query to the same job.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

This thread is not magical; the jobs you're applying to will still require a decent opening letter and CV, so make sure you have those made to a professional standard and make sure it fits the job you're applying!

Useful CV writing site:
http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/cv.htm

Thank you to those who contribute and good luck to those applying!

Edit: Just to further clarify!
Wait i'm confused, we can post job openings or not?

you can post if there is a direct link or direct contact at HR etc

you cannot post any "contact me", referral stuff or anything for a company you own or have financial interest in

Right, definitely time to get out of this science ****

All these jobs are basically IT/engineering.

Damn my background and lack of funding to do a second degree!

Don't forget, this forum is probably dominated by people within that area of industry, thus most jobs showing up here are of that sector.

Science degree is about not just knowing your field in that particular degree, if you're flexible enough, there are plenty of jobs opened to you.

I'm a Pharmaceutical Science grad, got into food industry by chance and even though jobs are asking for 'Food Technologist', I still applied as my skill set that I learnt from my science degree allows me to approach scenario logically, analyse and methodically solve it.

It's the same with IT/Engineers, they can come into food manufacturing. The factory isn't going to run itself.

Funnily enough back when i was unemployed, (before my first ever job), i had no proof of what i would be capable of.
My desire for a job, any job, would have made me an excellent employee for dozens of establishments though.

It's a pity that there's the culture of experience needed before you get experience.

It is a vicious circle which is hard to break.

Personally I would do something drastic to make yourself visible / stand out to whatever company you have in mind, be it working for them for 'free' to gain experience or if they have funds, put you on a short contract to see how you flare.
Wear a sandwich board and make noise outside?

Or go down the route of underemployment (factory work?) and gain new experience but work on leadership and communications - manage people and hitting KPIs shows experience in that area which is used in many sectors. Make sure you set your sights beyond getting comfortable!

I like the look of this thread.....subbed.

Also, does it work the other way as in if someone is looking for a job in a specific role and geographic location then someone on here can match them up too???

A bit like if someone was looking for a Project / Engineering Management role down in the South West area, specifically the Plymouth area ;):p

Nice try :p

I don't think it'll work quite as well because every Tom, Dick and Harry will drop a line here. Specific job for people to view and apply if interested. Last thing we want is a load of this...

Example 2 (Verbatim)

Hi
Seen your ad id be interest ed 2 now more giz a bell on **********

Useful thread, I'm looking for a job at the moment. Unfortunately I'm in the position where I'm not currently employed because I moved from the South of England up to the North-East of Scotland in mid-December, so I'm hoping potential employers aren't just seeing that I'm not currently employed and ignoring me because of it.

Also annoying is that my degree (2:1 Police Studies) is essentially useless now because I graduated about 4 years ago, and my only real experience is 3 and a half years in retail (mostly as a Team Leader, then as Stock/Merchandising Controller) which isn't an area I have any intention of going back to, so I'm essentially trying to start all over again.

You did a BSc (Hons)? With team leader experience, and stock controlling, have you tried looking into you local factory jobs as a temporary earner whilst you look for other jobs?

Being in employment is better than not, no matter how mediocre.

With your analytical skills aquired from your degree, even if it's not 'Police' related, it's still valuable. Statistical, numbering skills are vital for high grade jobs. From these experience, you can build up and step on to better jobs or internally, promote to better positions

Don't give up because you line of work isn't available. BTW, I really don't understand the mentality of Degree XXXX must mean a job in XXXX sector. Flexibility and quick learning is better than just a focused skill - unless we're talking deep research like Pharmaceutcals.

Thought I'll bring this forward again - hope it's been useful for people looking for jobs.

Over the last week, there's been a flurry of speculative send to me regarding jobs in the West and North Yorkshire via Linkedin. My experience is modest but there's definitely aload of agency looking for candidates on Linkedin.

http://www.linkedin.com/

Make sure you have an up to date Linkedin profile, with appropriate contact details ([email protected] is an example of what not to have for an email address!) and don't use it like Facebook - posting personal status is silly on a professional page!

If someone gets a job through a agency does the company have to employ them after so many weeks?

Depending on the contract agreed - or any union involved.

The factory I use to work for had to make arrangements to either hire (on FT contract) or move the agency worker (from current position) after 24 weeks. That place did staff about 65% of man hours with agency workers though.

Just a thought are there any links between yourselves and Tangerine? may sound like a silly question

Tangerine is our competitor, owned by Cadbury.
The only link I can think of is both are old name competitor (Dunhill vs Tangerine) in Pontefract, started out making liquorice confect.

I thought that might have been the case, a few people from my current work place have gone to tangerine

I know they're my competitor but they're heavily recruiting via agency, have a little root around jobsites, focused on West/North Yorkshire. AFAIK, they're hiring packaging manager and technologist.

I know because there was a sudden wave of enquiries fired at me from local recruiters a week or so ago.

How can he do all that if he isnt getting a chance to? He cant even get a job..

It really depends on what job he's applying.

This is a good thread but I am finding it frustrating how I have education to degree level and work experience but I cannot get a job due to a 1 year employment gap recently and also because everywhere expects you to have previous experience.... How can you get experience if nowhere will take you on without experience....

Care to list your degree and field of experience you've got, along with what you're going for / expecting? I don't see why a year gap is the reason why employers are missing you out, unless your CV claims something crazy like a year out smoking weed.

I find some of my friends have too high an expectation just because he/she came out with a 1st class degree, along with some work experience don't automatically entitle them to a job; I've got one that constantly fail at phone interviews, took a few tries before he mastered how and what to prep before getting a job at Smith & Nephew.

You take on a junior role, put your head down, work hard, grab every opportunity, and take every training course you can get.

If junior roles aren't available, working straight from the bottom at a decent company can help tide things over whilst gaining insights into the company, especially if there's some kind of factory production (in my experience anyway).

Wait i'm confused, we can post job openings or not?

Post jobs from your work - this gives people who never hear of said company an opportunity to go for it, but do not do your business here if you're a recruitment agency - as that's against the forum policy.

What would people recommend for a Business Management graduate to focus in? I'm happy to work in the UK or Ireland (abroad as well, but I don't have another language apart from a smattering of German), but I have little experience outside of my degree and a few odd and sod jobs. :(

Doing something you feel passionate about makes work less work like, and more fun to go to.

I enjoy eating and making food, I'm now a food product developer.
I came out with a Pharmaceutical Science degree, not really chef / food technologist but what I learnt in my degree allowed me to get a job in the food industry and experience from that allowed me to progress to areas I enjoy most.

Same thing for your Business Management. Is there an area you're passionate about? Gaming? FMCG? If unsure, then look into any 'everyday' industry and find roles where you'll be able to project manage and exercise skills you've learnt from your degree - once you're in, you'll start learning, trained up and finding interest in other departments that ignites your passion and then start your focus there.

Just in case anyone outside of Yorkshire haven't heard, Haribo UK has officially announced a new site a junction down the M62 from Pontefract main site (Castleford).

I can't give too much details but essentially, once the site shell is built, Haribo's own team of electricians, mech and maintainence engineers takes over. Everything is done in house due to trade secrets.

https://www.haribo.com/enGB/careers/careers-at-haribo.html

Apply ASAP, internally it's known to close by 28th November but with the new sites, speculative applications to anything related to the industry will be considered.

New site is expected 2015; between now and then it's training and preparations.

Good luck.

Meh I wish I did a degree that actually guarantees a job at the end of it.... Digital media I did and got 2 marks off a 1st but it feels like I would have as much chance getting a good job if I did not bother with it!

No Degree guarantees a job at the end. None.

Everyone has to work hard to get it, via experience, interviews and job knowledge. Don't give up on it, if you truly enjoyed what you studied and want a job in that sector, start going through that area. Even if you have to start low, your degree will get you noticed and move up quicker.

Remember, a degree is not an instant high paying, high flying job. This is totally missold by previous generation of "Uni For Everyone" idea.

A degree opens more doors for you to get into, there will always be obsticles between you and that door. It's experience, determination and hardwork that gets you into them, not some paper that says 1st, 2:1, 2:2 or whatever.
