Things people do to save money, but actually not

I had my hair cut a bit shorter yesterday, it still cost £10 but in theory may go nine weeks rather than seven. Probably won't as the included eyebrow trim will dictate a visit. Older age problems. :D

So here's another example for the OP - spending an extra £5 in fuel to drive to a further away supermarket to save £1 on a bottle of washing up liquid :p
oh yea that old favourite. my mum used to get my dad to drive her to the local Co-Op to buy milk as it was a couple of pence cheaper than the shop that was a 2 minute walk away. she used to look at me like i had 2 heads when i pointed out the cost of petrol to drive massively outweighed the saving!

Signing up to a well known 'Prime' service for unlimited next day delivery, then ordering a lot of their overpriced stuff.
Usually cheaper retail or from other online vendors.
Triple damage if you link your siginificant other to the account.

Haha true.dat. Especially from Marylebone to Birmingham. Was tight as anything so would get the dirt cheap ticket but then spend a hundie in the boozer next door.
Exactly what I did yesterday chilling in Camden for a few hours as some of their fine local watering holes ;)

People are trying to save money by doing things which work out more expensive.

Could you name any examples? Friend decided to buy the supermarkets budget label washing up liquid and didn’t last a quarter of the time as a bottle of Fairy

Your employer wants them to spend in that way because ~ supermarket margins ~ so don't poop on the golden goose my dude.

I'm also getting frustrating flashbacks to the 'hands that do dishes' advert where Fairy (P&G owned) paid good TV money to go against their alternative, but also owned, brand. See: persil, daz, surf, ariel, ad nauseum.

Really depends on original oven usage, but ours has already paid itself back and we've had it less than a year.
I know but I couldn't be bothered to start trying to explain the massive mixed bag they are and how a lot of people wont be saving a penny by using them.
I thought we had a insta ban on the mention of this dreaded word :)
Hahahah, ooops... :D

My local council recently reduced the cost of a replacement general waste black bin from £75 to £0 recently. Partly because people were stealing other peoples bins and partly because others were not bothering to order one at all. Works out cheaper to give them away. So the funeral is going to be real cheap #winning
I can sort of see why they charge if someone has gone through several, but given as you say people nicking other people's bins, or if you've just moved in and the old residents took theirs with them*, or and this is one I've personally experienced, the bin lorry throws your bin in the back. We found out that's a thing when our bin went missing and we had to call the council who to their credit did say "we've received a report that a bin fell into the back of the truck on your street, you'll get a replacement in a few days", apparently it's quite common if the grab is faulty/worn (but appears not to be a priority fix, over the next few collections our street lost several bins).

*The scummy drug dealing idiots near me used their wheelie bins to help move :/

Heinz ketchup half sugar half salt. I picked it up as it was reduced by 50p, thinking it was the real article. First world problems and all that jazz. Unpacked it at home, and the bottle had this subtle blue border which I've never seen before. Tried it, and I had to throw away the £3.49 bottle because it tasted absolutely rank. Bad form on Heinz' part imo as the bottle looked the same when picking it from a shelf where the bottle's border appeared green to me. Not colour blind but severe sight impaired.

This is the offending bottle in question.

Why didn't you just add sugar and salt to the bottle?

Fairy used to be good, now you have to buy their top of the line premium or platinum or whatever its called for it to work now and it becomes 3-4 times the price of store brand. We shop at asda and their own brand stuff is good. We have a double sink so its easy to rinse most of the stuff off before washing so there is no need to use loads anyway.
