Things people do to save money, but actually not

Over the years with food my wife has played some despicable tricks on me.
The first one was after two weeks of drinking my normal Coca Cola diet coke she asked if my coke was OK which it was.
She announced that she had been filling my 2 litre bottles up with ALDI coke and that's what I still drink.
She did the same thing with ALDI tomato ketchup, ALDI tomato & chicken soup and a host of other things that I can't tell the difference.

I was flying to Germany a few years ago for our mod meet and rather than pay for airport parking, I suggested to my wife that I could be dropped off at the airport and picked up afterwards as it’d save a few quid.

On the day I was leaving, we went out to her car, I got in to drive and noticed it was almost out of fuel. So I filled it up.

When she picked me up, not only did I have to pay the cost of going through the pickup zone at the airport but I’d jumped in to drive and saw the damn thing was almost empty again. So I filled it up.

What I saved in the cost of parking for three days was totally negated by two full tanks of fuel.

Dinner at a decent restaurant that you’d actually take a date to, £80 once you consider wine and/or starters or dessert. A Professional, or at least one of good quality, is more than twice that. Er, so I’ve heard/been told anyway.
And with the latter you don't get anything to eat*.

*Stop it you dirty gits.

Refusing to get a hotel in a convenient location because it’s more expensive than other options. Pick the cheaper hotel to save money.

Proceed to spend time and money getting to where you want to be.

^ this is something I never do, but my parents have just done it visiting Washington DC. Got an out of town hotel then have had to gets taxis to and from it. Whyyyyyy.
Booked flights and hotel for Prague. Was only £20 more for both me and ex over booking a package. Which was a coach journey and hotel which was 20km from central Prague.

That £20 gave us an extra day in Prague and a more centrally located hotel. Five minutes from Powder Tower

I used to book cheap digs out the way when I was going to gigs etc and was skint. Now I prefer comfort and little effort so I always book the nearest decent hotel to the venue now. This was before I even won SFL too.

Doing dozens of runs to the tip, instead of getting a skip. Just why?
The Tip is like 3 minute drive away and skips cost £££s. Failing that there are loads of man with van waste removal firms about these days which are very competitive, just make sure you see sight of their waste licence.

Since retirement my Mrs has been finding very cheap holidays online so we go away once a month either by train, coach or plane.
By turning of all the power in the house it would save us quite a bit of money however one of my daughters has come back to live with us about 3 months ago so that plan has failed.

Heinz ketchup half sugar half salt. I picked it up as it was reduced by 50p, thinking it was the real article. First world problems and all that jazz. Unpacked it at home, and the bottle had this subtle blue border which I've never seen before. Tried it, and I had to throw away the £3.49 bottle because it tasted absolutely rank. Bad form on Heinz' part imo as the bottle looked the same when picking it from a shelf where the bottle's border appeared green to me. Not colour blind but severe sight impaired.

This is the offending bottle in question.

My wife just did the same thing. Utter ********.

Had a colleague who had narrowed his choice of his next EV to a BMW i4, or a Model 3 LR. Despite preferring the build, interior, practicality and comfort of the i4 he chose a Model 3, because "it was more efficient". He ignored the fact the i4 was £60 per month less expensive to lease on salary sacrifice.

I know it's just me but this reads as the ultimate 1st world problem I've heard in months :p

Not giving your central heating a few runs in the summer can end up costing more when you do crank it up ,stuck diverter valves ect ect

Buying a £65k Tesla to save £30 a week in petrol costs and £120 a year in road tax.
It's OK, my man maths justified mine, I was paying 300 a month in fuel, and 600 on road tax. It also makes it cheaper to drove to the tip rather than hire a skip  . I know its banned but I just don't get the current obsession of fryers.
