Things people do to save money, but actually not

Talking of ketchup, Sainsburys Tomato Ketchup

You squeeze the bottle and the ketchup goes on me rather than the plate.
asdas own brand does this, sometimes the sphincter is so tight the force you need to squeeze it creates so much pressure that when it comes out it ricochets off the plate all over you, the wall, the cupboards and the floor. "Allegedly" Dont tell the mrs. I now stab it with something if i think its going to happen again.

Doing dozens of runs to the tip, instead of getting a skip. Just why?

HIPPOBAGs revolutionised the UK waste industry over 15 years ago and are the No.1 skip bag company in the UK. Over one million customers have used them to get rid of pretty much everything from old kitchens, bathrooms, piles of garden waste, soil and rubble: you name it and we’ve collected it.

Surprised no-one has suggesred: taking a woman out for a romantic dinner in the hope of gittin' some, instead of hiring a pro.
Dinner at a decent restaurant that you’d actually take a date to, £80 once you consider wine and/or starters or dessert. A Professional, or at least one of good quality, is more than twice that. Er, so I’ve heard/been told anyway.

I was getting annoyed with how expensive honey was becoming, real honey not the honey flavoured sugar water they sell in supermarkets. So i became a beekeeper, i now have more honey then i ever dreamed of, so much in fact that ive gone off it and dont eat much of it these days.
Ive also spent £1000's on equipment over the years.
I do enjoy it though and my mum does it with me so its nice to spend time with her.

£200 for a bag that's pretty much the size of my car boot? I think I'll take the single tip run for £5 of diesel please :p

Depends on your success rate surely? If it takes 5x£80 dinners to get lucky then the professional option may work out cheaper!

(Of course any date worth your time should have the decency to go dutch...)

dozens?

Also how far away is your tip?:)

Ours is about a 10 minute drive (couple of miles), that works out at about 8 trips to the gallon. IIRC round our way a mini skip (about 20-30 bin bags) is something over £50*, I can probably get 5-10 reasonable sized bags in the back of the car, throw the roof rack on and I can take the bulky stuff on top.
It would make sense for large/heavy/really mucky stuff but if you've got the time spare it's a money saver to just have a few trips.

For garden waste it would probably make more sense to hire a van and get a free permit for a trip with it :) (IIRC our council allows you to take a van something like twice a year if you get a specific permit)

*A quick google says a "2-3 yard" skip is £65ish, IIRC I can get two "yard" bags in the back of our car if i only half fill them, so 2ish trips.

Refusing to get a hotel in a convenient location because it’s more expensive than other options. Pick the cheaper hotel to save money.

Proceed to spend time and money getting to where you want to be.

^ this is something I never do, but my parents have just done it visiting Washington DC. Got an out of town hotel then have had to gets taxis to and from it. Whyyyyyy.

I done this before. Never again. Complete school boy error. It was one of the first times I was travelling booking on my own - was sod paying X amount more when just down the road it’s way cheaper. Disaster.

Pretty sure my local tip has a ban on soil/really mucky stuff anyway.

About 15 min drive. However Cardiff, just down the road, is hilariously inconvenient for the tip.

I factor in the time loading the car and back and forth. A few years back I cut the garden back, and I think I did 11 car fulls just on that. That probably worked out at getting on for 10 hours faff.

Depends on size and where you are.

By the time you have done a dozen or more journeys to the tip (with loading/ unloading time), it's a marginal call.

£247 for an 8 yard skip for 7 days or schedule a visit to the tip that doesn't cost me anything other than fuel -I know what if prefer
